"Any suggestions for pain relief - meditation, anything outlandish is fine.
Sick of swallowing tablet after tablet for temporary relief.
Thanks guys 🙏
"
Chronic pain sufferer here.
Managed to ease the dependency on meds that barely work/come with side effects by:
Regular acupuncture sessions
Cold water dipping
Heat - heat packs/hot water bottles
Mix of hot/cold depending on type of pain
Calming distractions can help too
Keeping my hands busy so my brain/body followed.

Will try the cold water dipping - just need the time for it.
Anything that lowers inflammation tends to work for me
Thanks 🙏 |

What type of pain? Muscular? Head? Arthritic?
Been down the pain relief route and it's worrying how easily doctors will prescribe pill after pill.
Unfortunately, I haven't found anything to help migraine/ head pain, have had a 24/7 migraine like pain for the last 9 years. No long term relief given by any treatment.
Muscular and neck pain , found the best thing is a tens machine to reduce the pain , when extremely bad and gentle stretching. That by no means gets rid of pain but takes mind off for a while.
Also a nice soak in a lazy spa helps in the summer. |

I second the heat packs.
Depending on what kind of pain it is, a good routine of movement and stretching exercise, almost ‘yoga-lite’ can be very helpful also. If you don’t know where to start and are sensibly wary of taking tips from YouTube that may do more harm than good, your GP should have access to a physio service they can refer you to for free, or a one off consultation with a sports physio won’t cost much. |

I visited a chiropractor for my back pain..degenerative changes L5,S1. I've had about 6 sessions, exercises and it's certainly helped. I still get discomfort but I put that down to old age 😂
Hot water bottles have helped too. I'm someone who won't take medication unless absolutely necessary |

plenty of supplements out there, yes still tablets but less intrusive to the body, tumeric and ginger, omega 3/6 oils (buy quality as they do oxidise), CBD can help with nerve signalling issues for some and is anti inflammatory. Eating raw, simply meaning fruits and salad products. Topicals like magnesium sprays, capsaisin creams. Zinc and magnesium before bed to help the body's natural recovery. Most of the non supplemental has already been mentioned. Although being careful with anti inflammatory things as that inflammation is there for a reason, sometimes reducing inflammation can reduce recovery rates. I have always sworn by omega caps, if I go a few days without them then I start feeling aches and pains more. |

Awaiting new hips in the next couple of years, so suffer a lot when my injections need redoing (which they do now).
Deep tissue/sports massage and cupping is also excellent alongside the massage. An osteopath is great because they work on the body as a whole, rather than just the one specific area. For example, I see mine fairly regularly. He manipulates my back, which links in with my pelvis. If my pelvis is misaligned, it makes my hip pain worse. My pelvis becomes more misaligned when my hip flexors get too tight. This then radiates both up and down the spine, so affects my neck/shoulders and my knees/ankles because I’m not moving as I should be. So where a chiropractor will mainly work on your back alone, osteopaths do a mixture of physical therapy, manipulations, dry needling (acupuncture - dry needling is the medical term for it), massage and can give you physio exercises to do as well. Some also do cupping, so you get more from your session than ypu would with a chiro.
The over the counter Voltarol patches and Salonpas patches have been an absolutely godsend for my hips (they last 24 hours). The Nurofen patches are also good, again you can use them for 12 hours. They’re both topical non steroidal, but there’s less risk of gastric issues with topical applications as there’s less uptake into the system than with tablets, therefore reduces the effects on the stomach, liver and kidneys. I can only take oral anti inflammatories sparingly, so topical is a great alternative for me. Salonpas are camphor and menthol, so you get the prolonged cooling you would get with ice plunges, but less intense, targeted and over a prolonged period of time as opposed to short bursts, so you feel the therapeutic effects for longer.
Also things like jacuzzi, saunas and steaming can help due to the heat too. |

Hemp seed oil contains all the essential fatty acids. There is a medical herbalist I know down your way who has done a lot of research and written about hemp seed oil. It has so many properties and when I was taking it, I felt amazing.. |

Fibromyalgia chronic pain here. I cant take traditional meds as the side effects are awful.
I use Tumeric, Magnesium 4 in 1, Vitamin D 25000 ampoule, Milk thistle, Vitamin B complex and apple cider vinegar capsules. rest as much as you can and dont push past what your body is telling you. Massage helps, excessive heat or cold flares me up so saunas and cold water dipping is out for me.
Tattoos are the best for me as it overloads my nerves and blocks the normal pain for a few days. I am an adult and life is hard so I deserve stickers too 🤣
Hope you find something Op. |
