Replacing dead pets without kids noticing

One of my goldfish had popped it's clogs so has gone to the big fishy heaven in the toilet. Am hoping to find a very similar looking replacement tomorrow before the tribe notice it's gone otherwise be riots here. No real point to this thread but there we go

I read somewhere that vets are now advising the best cure for all ailments affecting small animals, like pet hamsters etc is a new operation in which the original is surgically removed under anaesthetic and a new one transplanted in its place...apparently it has the added bonus of extending the pet's life by extra months or years. Most children readily accept any change in behaviour, colour or even sex as a normal side effect of the treatment

In all fairness kids get used to pets passing away quite easily. Considering the fates that have befallen T's numerous rodents such us electrocution, drowning, squashing, cat food, ect the lucky ones die of old age (or stress). I wouldn't worry too much, just tell it as it is.

I already have a dumbo rat with a wonky head due to it having either had a ear infection or a suspected stroke. Seems quite happy though. I've only had the goldfish about a month so can't exactly claim old age on that one

I will never forget when i was Little me and my 2 brothers had 3 goldfish at my grandads we was visiting one day and my uncle shouted me in to the dining room to say hi to the fish as i walked in the room i saw him take one out of the bowel and eat it then another then the 3rd i went mental then noticed across the room a new tank with 3 fish in it our fish .

My uncle had cut fake fish out of carrot stuck our fish in a new tank the carrot fish in the bowel swirled the water round So the carrots (fish) bobbed about looked real

i know this is of no help at all sorry OP thread triggered the memory felt i had to share it

Well the youngest just asked the dreaded question... "where's my fish I can't see him in the tank??" I responded with about 2 minutes of awkward silence then tried to say he has gone on holiday, she asked where, I said to Swansea to visit his mate, she said no he hasn't. I said alrite he is dead and she doesn't believe that either. Is adament he is hiding in there somewhere
