We used to arrange the socials, they are not difficult to do. The hardest part is finding some where to have it. Town centre costs money and out of town people moan about getting there lol. We would attend one so good luck if some body tries to organise it |

Its also very difficult to find a decent venue that doesn't cost a bomb to hire. |

I'm think I'm confused. I thought a social was just all people meeting in a pub for a drink and to be social. Can we not do that in any pub. What's the room hire for. I'm sorry to sound so silly and new. |

That's what usually happens for a day social. Night socials tend to be more of a party atmosphere in a function room of some kind. Usually music too. They're great fun. No playing tho as it's only a social. |

They used to be on a sat night in a brill venue organised by joan who worked hard to get that venue and put alot of effort into running a top social.
But alas some could not respect the golden rule which is you dont play on the premises at the social and the venue was lost.
Other venues were tried but were not as popular as the one that was lost and it stopped for a while.
Pfc held one and came in for some uneccessary flack in the forum.
At the end of the day good venues are hard to come by especially for our lifestyle we are lucky we still have great venues for the newport and swansea socials respectively.

" Well it would appear that the only way forward would be a initial daytime social that could be arranged to test the actual interest and obviously without any financial out lay, then based upon the take up a evening one at a private venue |

There's a number of factors finding a private venue for an evening Cardiff social on a weekend. It needs to be a reasonably priced venue for drinks, as some venues sting you. It needs to be central, and that is now hard to find. The main one is, you need to be honest with the management, as a lot are not interested in having a swingers social. There aren't many venues in the town centre now, and the ones that are there are normally booked up in advance due to weddings etc. |

As mentioned above, by another forumite, day time socials are great for the people who don't work during the day or who don't have other commitments during the day. ... that's why the evening socials are very popular by a lot of other people.
Good luck in your venture of setting up a Cardiff day time social |

"Again daytime is all fair and we'll but limited to people who have daytimes free " True but then again there are members with children who would probably find a weekend evening impossible and as there are Evening events that are well supported within a sensible travelling distance I still think that a Cardiff weekday social would work Casanova |

I think you are missing the point.
Cardiff social was, when it was established, very well supported as a weekend evening function, so there is no need to "test the water" as it were.
The daytime socials attract fewer attendees as most people are working, and from the feedback I have seen, they have a different "feel" to them. I'm certainly not knocking them, anyone who organises any event to the benefit of others is to be applauded, but I cant see why people are trying to re-invent the wheel. |

"Morning all... seen a few posts about newport and Swansea socials just wondered if there's any in Cardiff? Would be interested in attending if there are any " Well as the original posting didn't mention if it was to be a weekday daytime or a weekend event I find it difficult to really understand some of the observation's and it appears that Newport is doing both with success so what is so wrong with a Cardiff daytime social Casanova |

Nothing wrong at all! I've often thought about arranging one. However, in this case I assumed the OP was looking for a weekend social akin to those in Newport and Swansea. |

Seems to be a fair bit of interest. I didn't really think about if it was to be a daytime, evening or weekend social. I'm fortunate to be able to attend either one of those but I know some people who can't. For me personally I think I would prefer either a weekend or evening social. But each to their own. If there's enough interest for a daytime social definitely go ahead and arrange one I'll try and look into arranging one at some point aswell if anyone would like to help me? |

When it first started we all just met in one of the pubs in the city centre.
Back then we diddnt need to hire a room we just all met at a set place at a set time, chatted, and went out separate ways sometimes in groups
Nobody was the wiser of who or why we were there. Eventually the social got so big it was taken on by somone who hired a function room and it went from there. |

Fair play i dont come on the forums very often when I do its for entertainment. There are certain gentlemen (I use that term loosely!) that could cause an argument in an empty room! Glad to see that certain comments about locations have been removed. Isn't that why these things get spoilt in the first place! Public forum and all that! No wonder the press get hold of things! |

The other socials are careful not to give out locations, even pre-social drink venues are carefully discussed.
