Do you applaud a fish for swimming

No.
Someone from my office has been awarded a £50 gift voucher for looking after ABC Corp. Their job is 'supplier relationship' and we assumed they had gone above and beyond looking after a different supplier for someone else.
When enquired it transpired they only had one account: ABC Corp. So, in essence, they were just doing their regular job. |

"I'm sure that they'd rather be applauded for swimming than captured for food.
It’s ok to eat fish because they don’t have any feelings
They’ve obviously not been to my dentist "
It’s the one from finding nemo right? |

"No I do not applaud a fish for swimming. Can they hear?
Were I a fish I don't think I'd want applaud continually ringing in my ears...If I had any."
New thought: do fish have ears? |

This is why I dislike our silly "Pat Someone On The Back" monthly thingy. It's mainly people who like each other, commending each other for doing what they're paid to do |

They have inner ear apparatus, yes. But no outer flappy ear bits. |

Seriously KC², there was one person who had to rejig their calendar for their wife's chemotherapy AND make adjustments for the son's SENS appointment to sort out a client 100s miles away on a weekend, and they were overlooked. |

I know this is a light hearted thread but I think what you describe is actually quite a bad thing.
It leads to people expecting to be praised, simply for doing what they are supposed to be doing, and when they are not they then start saying that they aren’t being appreciated, it’s a downward spiral. |

Doesn't matter cant block distances |
No.. applauding a fish for flying yes for swimming against the tide yes.
Applauding someone or something for doing an essential element to existing..no..unless that's a baby fish then yes encourage until they learn the essential.
Guess that's why there's so many people wanting applauding when they do/learn life essentials, they still aren't developed. |

I agree and it's tiring when you have someone constantly seeking approval for doing a job they are paid to do. And constantly praising demeans the praise when the praise and recognition is actually deserved

"No I would not applaud a fish for swimming …
Does one get a pat on the back for walking ?
I would definitely applaud a fish for walking, unless it was a Penguin. "
Pretty sure that penguins are not fish. Even though they don't have fingers. |

How do they eat their chocolate biscuits if they don’t have fingers, they’d never get the wrapping undone. |
