Best Gig you've ever been too?
Jump to: Newest in thread
I managed to see Rudimental when Will Heard an Anne-Marie were singing for them . Truly awesome., to me that was the best Rudimental lineup ever.
Also, I saw a practically unheard of Tool supporting RATM , also awesome.
And the night I randomly flew to Amsterdam to see Sylvan Esso perform a secret gig in a coffee shop
Impossible to choose one from those three

The Jam, De Montfort Hall Leicester, March ‘82. I’d seen them the night before in Birmingham, but went on my own. This time, went with a coach load of local mods and had one of the best nights of my life. |

Best time was knebworth watching oasis can't remember much but I had the best weekend strangely 2 best intimate ones was last minute invite to watch the kinks in Falmouth getting ready for a Nordic tour and a band called the duelists at leadmill in Sheffield about 700 people rocking the place. |

Guns n roses, Manchester, 1992
GnR were a huge bag of shit - it had been postponed once and they still managed to be hours late getting on stage, did the bare minimum and were barely functioning as a group, but the supports were Faith No More and Soundgarden, both of whom were amazing! |

Lots of great gigs over the years, one that sticks in my mind was Leatherface at Hull New Adephi in 1991. Leatherface were great, and the support were brilliant, a 3 piece band who'd recently done a Peel session and released their debut single, P J Harvey. |

In terms of the best music, probably Queen & Adam Lambert. I'd love to have seen them live with Freddie on vocals, but he'd passed before I ever really discovered Queen.
For pure enjoyment however, Steel Panther. Ok, so they're not everyone's cup of tea, but it was an absolute riot of a gig. |

Saw that tour at Wembley - and had exactly the same experience. Had a sit at the back for GnR - they were shite.
FNM and Soundgarden though…awesome

"Thin lizzy in Manchester
I’d have loved to have seen thin lizzy
For me, probably Beck at The Mayfair, Newcastle 1992
Going to see Beck in June "
Not seen him in years but that was a truly amazing gig. Could have been because of the small venue. I like intimate gigs |

He's playing the Albert Hall this time, not quite so intimate 😄 |

Difficult to call...
NiN at various times
Pearl Jam at various times
Coldplay at various times
Pink Floyd at various times
AC/DC at various times
But...
Last year's gig of Dave Gilmour at the Royal Albert Hall really was other worldly.. 🎸 |

But I have to also mention that Halifax's Piece Hall is a great place to see artists as you can get close up in a lovely setting and all are good...
Sting
Grace Jones
Crowded House
Bryan Adams
Nile Rodgers
Noel Gallagher
The Cult...
And this year so far...
Weezer
Simple Minds
Texas
Travis
Supergrass |

Ooooh it’s a tie.
Pogues two days before Xmas at Brixton Academy. Fairytale of New York being sung by everyone and snow effect falling from the ceiling. Magical.
And
U2 at the Sphere, Las Vegas. Unbelievable. Never seen anything like it. |

I didn’t appreciate Gomez in the day but bought two LP’s recently and they are awesome. The albums fetch good money now. |

U2 Zooropa Tour in Glasgow ‘93.
They were in their prime, had an amazing album and the stage set & visuals were out of this world. Looks futuristic even now.
Spent the first 45 minutes trying to decide whether to listen to the music or watch the video screens. Complete overload. |

"I'm not completely sure, and I haven't been to that many but Dave Gilmore at a Chateau in France was incredible. Potentially that could be the best gig I've attended."
Château de Chantilly in 2016? If so I was there too, just wonderful.
I saw Pink Floyd there too back in 1994. |

I was at London's Olympic closing ceremony, which wasn't bad value at just £20.12 per ticket - The Who, Madness, Spice Girls, George Michael, Fatboy Slim, Take That, Annie Lennox, Elbow, lots more... |

They were definitely outplayed by Pop Evil, one of the support acts."
Where did they play ? Manchester has a few amazing small gig places |

As many have said lots to pick from but top of my head .. Neneh Cherry at Albert Halls , Manchester, 2019 … perfect dual reaction of the crowd going ape at the performance and the band feeding off that and bringing their absolute best |

Too many to mention. But Cardiacs, The Fall, and a younger me - Metallica/danzig on the justice tour. Oh and Fishbone- what a live band.
And three days - Jane’s Addiction.
Oh
And Slint
And my bloody Valentine
And de la soul
This is an impossible question
SUNNO))) - just ridiculous
Cardiacs is the answer- godlike |

Went to the first night at Heaton. The sound was crap because it was windy. Never been to an outdoor gig since.
I was one of the lucky ones who got a ticket for the reunion gig at the Parr Hall in Warrington. Now that was an ‘I was there’ moment 😎 |

Does anyone think the venue itself can make a difference if you enjoy the gig or not?
There's a venue in glasgow called the arches, not sure if it's still going. It's like a long aircraft hangar shape and if you are at the back, the sound is really muddy and unclear.
However
A place like band on the wall in manchester, (where they keep upgrading the sound system) is crystal clear and you can hear a pin drop in the music mix.

Oh absolutely it can make a difference! Sheffield Arena is one of the worst venues in the world sadly. I have seen some of my faves there, acts who of course are superb musicians and performers, sound... well... terrible.
Eric Clapton, Page & Plant, Neil Young, Metallica, Slipknot to name a few have all "floundered". And I still think its a utter travesty that the legendary Ms Tina Turner's last ever gig was there. She, like the others, battled hard but its just souless and the sonics woefully dreadful.
Like you say such as Band On The Wall is the exact opposite! Amazing sound and brilliant atmosphere. Manchester Academy and Leeds Arena recently both upgraded its "line array" sound systems (to compete with the new Co-op Arena's) and all 3 venues sound utterly amazing. |

Also, The Corrs were very good, much better than I was expecting.
Would have liked to see Anastacia back in the day but didn't. I know she's still going but her voice isn't the same now, poor Lass has had many medical issues over the years which have had an impact on her vocals and health. |

Country to Country 2018 Dublin. Chris Stapleton headlined. Atmosphere and music was unreal.
The Eagles, Stormont Castle, Belfast 2001. Just epic.
Snow Patrol, Ward Park, Bangor 2007. Home town gig in my own home town. Unforgettable. |

Live Aid was the best for me.
Plenty of others top notch though.
AC/DC with Bon Scott in the 1970s.
The Sex Pistols
The Clash
The Rolling Stones
The Who
Still going to gigs...
Kasabian and Lenny Kravitz this week in London for me. |
