"Ghost Dog The Way of The Samurai. It's a slow burn, but I love that film. Great soundtrack by the RZA too"
Yes. I think this is an excellent quirky masterpiece. |

Not sure how well known this is but I'm Thinking of Ending Things by Charlie Kaufman. Great film about a woman who is going to meet her boyfriend's parents but secretly wants to end the relationship.
Also, Cure by Kiyoshi Kurosawa, which is a film about people who commit horrific murders but have no recollection of them and the detective trying to find the real culprit. |

"Goodbye Lenin.
A comedy about the fall of the Berlin Wall. One of my all time favourite films. It's ace!"
Love this film! Hardly anyone has watched it but I had a right crush on Daniel Bruhl for a while.
Mine would be a Japanese surrealist yakuza horror film called Gozu simply because it's mad as hell and the scene where a woman gives birth to a fully grown man really stuck with me |

Cure is incredible! Nightmare to find but well worth it. |

Big fan of all Jim Jarmusch's work. His last film Paterson went under the radar but I loved it. What's not to like about a bus driver poet ? |

"The work of Yorgos Lanthimos is becoming more popular (e.g. Poor Things, The Favourite), but I love The Lobster: it's brilliantly weird. "
I think he's relatively well known now, but The Lobster is great. The Killing of a Sacred Deer is also good but feels a bit long. Maybe that's just his style though |

The V/H/S franchise are my favourite horror movies of the modern era.
Don’t look up.
Don’t watch any trailers
Turn off the lights
And just go in raw & watch them
You can skip the first one - It’s Meh
They’ve got Part 8 coming up this year. And it’s weird nobodies heard of them |

Oh they have brilliant (redacted) in the (redacted). Trying to keep spoiler free. They were on Shudder when I last looked, think they're still there. |

"Anything by David Cronenberg.
I loved A History of Violence which I guess is one of his more accessible films ?"
My favourites are rabid and especially shivers never get bored of that one, think David's style probably has people switching off within 5 minutes though |

Sacred Deer made me feel uncomfortable somehow; a bit too long, a bit too stilted. |

Scanners and Videodrome are my favourites. The Fly is a classic, and I admire Naked Lunch simply for the attempt to impose some order on Burroughs nightmare of a novel… and the jazz 😁 |

To me that felt like the point. I suppose it helps us feel like how the family feel. |

Videodrome is probably my favourite of his, and Crash is also brilliant. Shivers and Rabid are great low-budget weird horror. And Scanners is worth it for that one moment at the beginning, even if the casting lets it down overall. |

"Restless Natives.
Brilliant film set in my home city of Edinburgh with a soundtrack from Big Country..
Have to try and find that.Being a "Big Country" fan since my teens."
The Crossing...Greatest 80s album IMO |

When I turned 16 in 1990 it was the first cassette that went into my Sony Walkman, on with the earphones, helmet on, 50cc moped kickstarted.. Singing away cruising the streets |

"‘Last Night’ with Sandra Oh.
What would you do if you knew the world was going to end in 24 hours? (And it has David Cronenberg in it (see above) acting in a small, strange role). "
I liked the irony of what happens to his character in the end. |

"Cube. It had a very low budget, but a great concept and worked wonderfully. The sequels, which had a proper budget, were all rubbish, though. "
Love the cube, definitely a cult classic |

The Hairdresser's Husband. French film from the 90s, offbeat and sad.
One I recommend to people once I know them and have a good idea of their geekiness is Hawk the Slayer. Admittedly it's rubbish but it's very good rubbish. |

"The Malcolm McDowell one (‘If….’ (1968)) is a work of genius. "
I've seen part of this...need to watch it properly.
Some others I think are worth a mention-
Cabaret balkan
Hunt for the wilderpeople
&
Dead letter office(1998)
The mule ( 2014, not the clint eastwood film)
..both of these are australian films. |

Number 24.
Currently on Netflix
.
It's about Gunnar Sønsteby, perhaps Norway's greatest war hero of WW2.
.
A thoughtful, moving and deep film, with some very effective directorial decisions (change of pace/scene/environment). Yes, I'm being cagey to avoid spoilers. |

"videodrome

One of the first jobs I got was working in a video shop when I was 15/ 16 in the school holidays. The owner used to let me take a film each evening to watch..I told him I liked horror & he recommended 'Society '. Brilliantly fucked up.
-I think it got a 4k release not too long ago. |

The Giant Claw, movie from 1957.
It's a turkey, yep it's definitely a turkey but it's a head of it's time.
Flame 1975 50th anniversary this year
in February, featuring Slade.
Cannonball with David Carradine 70's road movie. Watch out for the pink hoodie.
One Eyed Jack's, Marlon Brando one of his best but seldom shown movies.
