Morning all, it's St George's Day and steering away from the historical/religious context...
Is there/has there been a knight in shining armour in your life? Someone who has gone above and beyond to do something for you, or simply just being there for you, no matter what.
There have been a few in my life, but the one who immediately springs to mind is a good friend who became my 'bubble' partner during lockdown. He shopped and cooked for me when I was too unwell to do it myself. I can't thank him enough for getting me through that difficult time 😊 xx
Who are your knights? |

Two of my neighbours who are both far more organised, remember when bin day is, and always put mine out at the same time as theirs. They're angels.
*I put all ours back when empty of course. 😇😂 |

It makes life so much easier when you have good neighbours. I live in a building of 6 flats and we do the same for each other 😊 |

I feel the same. I've been here 11 years...the longest I've ever stayed in one place...and I think that's mostly down to the lovely people who live around me. Well, and the fact I'm a 10 minute walk from a gorgeous beach 😄 |

Absolutely. From personal experience I know what a difficult journey it is, not just physically but mentally too. But to go through it when you're in the public eye ... well, I have nothing but ❤️ and admiration for him, and everyone else going through it 🫂 |

For me, it is my mum. The other day she commented on the inner strength I have and I told her that it is only because I inherited it from her. She is the strongest and bravest person I know 💞 |

A very long time ago my house was broken into. I just got back from the hospital where my daughter had her appendix out and been very ill for about five days to find the back patio door is completely smashed and the house trashed.
We also think we disturbed them as loads of stuff I’ve been dropped in the back garden
A mate came over and sat by the patio doors all night with a baseball bat why we got some sleep. Then he organised a team of people to come over next day and tidy and clean and fix everything up for us while we went over and stayed at a friends. |

Oh my goodness, what a horrendous thing to go through, especially when your daughter was so poorly. But what amazing friends you have to do all that for you and your family. It's times like that you find out who's truly there for you, no matter what 😊 |

Sending ❤️ & 🫂 to you Velma x
My brother and I grew up in an alcohol-fuelled abusive household. The only solace we got, were the 6 weeks that we stayed with our grandparents every summer. They were so loving, spending quality time with us, teaching us so much about life. It's years since they both died, but I think about them most days. Especially now, as I am researching our family tree and have all their photos out. So so many happy memories with them. You're always welcome to DM me if you ever need a chat 😊 |

Thanks for the wishes Jack. How is it over there in beautiful Cork? I've never been but I recently did an Ancestry DNA test and discovered that 3% of my DNA is from the Munster province of Ireland. So I've been Googling the area and I've put it on my bucket list to visit one day 😄 |

Post is a little premature
Today is not actually St George’s Day. Under Church of England rules no saint’s day can be celebrated in the week before or after Easter, so this year the celebration has been moved to Monday 28 April |

You're absolutely right. Oops 🫣That'll teach me for just looking at the Google Doodle and not scrolling down to read the article about it. Oh well, it's been a lovely thread anyway 😊 |

Well that 3% qualifies you 100% Irish I do family history for 26 years now, and Munster is not so bad to research. It can be very diverse historically. The more unusual the name, the better to locate family homesteads. Check both sides of the family lines, 100,000 more files were put online this year for Munster alone.
National census website is in transition at the moment, so check the new version available. Church records are available online and research Skibbereen historical website, great resource.
If you need help on this, just DM me, a lot is free. I can point you to the good websites.
Cork is sunny at the moment, but I'm sure you'll bring a few rays when you're over yourself!

Yes. When I was in my early 20’s a friend of mine had overnight success in his career. He took me under his wing and allowed me to shadow him around the world. I learned so much and I’ll be forever grateful that he changed my life. |

Aww Jack, thanks so much. From what I understand of the results, 3% DNA means way way way back! So far I've got back to the mid 1700s and not a hint of Irish yet, so it may take a long while, haha. But I will definitely be in touch when I get to that point of research. Thanks 😁 |

Honestly, it is a while ago, but that has pretty much happened. They weren't all grannies, but other than that. 👌🏼 🤣
I kept adding stitches or something and they got tired of fixing it for me. So I just made the tea. |
