The ridiculousness of the "dad bod" crazy...

Ladies and gentlemen I think we have a problem with the concept of the "dad bod". On first glance would you say I have a dad bod? No? Well maybe I do...the definition is bit ambiguous, but it basically relates to a man that doesn't go to the gym daily, but still exercises a couple of times a week, and has a higher bodyfat procentage. Believe it or not I go to the gym 2 - 3 times a week and at this moment in time my bodyfat percentage is 16-18 (although usually it is around 12, I feel I look much better at this bodyfat percentage). So based on that description I have a dad bod right?
Now when this "dad bod" term was first introduced circa 10 years ago, it was in direct association with Leonardo DiCaprio...that was what a dad bod looked like, where as now in 2025 celebrities like Tom Hardy, Jason Momoa and Henry Cavill are associated with the dad bod ...basically a muscular body with a tiny bit of "fluff". It's like a bunch of women 10 years ago started saying the dad bod is more attractive than a fit body and in time more and more people started associating dad bod with attractiveness, to the degree that any man attractive in their eyes (regardless what their body looks like) has a dad bod. It's kinda ridiculous, but anyways, how do I change my bio from athletic to dad bod? 🙄

I think the Dad Bod should be defines as, someone who doesn’t look like he has time to go to the gym, as he’s busy looking after his kids and family in the hours where he’s not working, or doing the odd jobs around the house. |

"Going by your photos your body is most definitely athletic.
Dad bod is stocky with a beer gut. Or gut, not necessarily caused by beer "
Perfick. Dad bod I am then.
Such a fine specimen of one that I struggle to see my goolies. |

Dad bod, mum, tums, along with stretch marks being earnt by women who have been pregnant etc are all nonsense that the media use.
I dislike that there is an association with such things to parenthood. When many of us have these attributes without parenthood. So I personally don't think you should waste your time thinking about this nonsense. |

I agree that the term has taken on its own life from when it was first coined. But on fab it doesn't really matter anyway. Like most people I go by photos rather than the description anyway.
Muscular with a hint of softness is a very attractive body type. But I'm all about the face when it comes to attraction (makes things tricky on fab where mostly it's nose down 😂) |

"I don’t think you need anyone else to decide the type of body you have 🤷♀️Folk like what they like no matter the arbitrary label.
Mrs TMN x"
I think it's more about the importance of words and their meaning...if someone describes themselves to be in a specific way, but in reality they are not exactly like that, you'd feel they are a bit dishonest, no? |

I think it’s a vague term that means different things to different people. So one person’s take on it may differ wildly from another, I wouldn’t interpret that as being dishonest. I go on pictures and what someone looks like in person |

who decides, the individual who owns the body or other people?
I describe myself as fabulous. It's highly likely that other people disagree but I can't help that.

My dad is 98 but because he worked hard physically until he was 75 still has great muscle tone taking his age into account and weighs the same as he did at 20.
He has a dad bod by the strictest of definitions. |

"Anyone that knows their own body fat index number is a concern to me.
I would say majority of people that train and care about health do.. I don’t think it’s at all bizarre."
I would say the majority of people that train and care about health, that know their body fat percentage, probably go to the gym rather alot and probably dont have a dad bod. I never said bizarre, i said a concern.
I have enough to worry and think about already without thinking about my fat percentage

Don't make men like that anymore
Hoping he has many years left 🙏 |

"My dad had a little pot belly and wasn't particularly muscular.
I have no idea what a dad bod looks like.
Nor me 🤷♀️ I just go by the pics on here."
When I look at a photo of a man's body my brain doesn't categorise them. It either says yes please, or no thanks. |

I was seeing someone who knew his fat percentage and all of his measurements. He needed an aesthetic body for his work. He made time for me. |

Exactly, I like the look of all different body types, I don't really care what the body type is called. |

He has slowed down a little but the men who came to put a new shed up for him were surprised to learn that he had built the base for it to stand on. 🤩 |

Why would you say knowing your body fat percentage a concern? Maybe there are medical reasons why people like to keep a track |

I really don't think 16-18% body fat is dad bod territory, I think anything below 20% is actually healthy in men with 12% and below being athlete territory.
I do get what you mean about the idea of a dad bod changing all the time and I guess the same can be applied to "curvy women" where men can expect that to mean big hips, bum, tits with a small waist when that's not the case at all. I guess social media has a lot to answer for 🤔 |

Everybody has a skewed perception of what a dad bod is, or perhaps a different opinion of what a dad bod is
From interactions I’ve had most women seem
To think a dad bod is basically the physique of an off season bodybuilder
So it depends on what everyone’s opinion of a dad bod is.. |

That is what ‘curvy’ is to me.. big hips, big tits, bum, small waist and flat stomach🙈! The term is so broadly used it’s difficult now to actually determine if the description is ever truly accurate! |

"Who says henry and Tom have dad bods?"
I’ve seen their bodies be described as dad bod on Instagram. There’s been a worrying shift in male body standards over the years. Hugh Jackman in X-Men (2000) is considered “Dad Bod” by today’s standards.

Did you see James Smith piece on Olly murrs? He was saying the exact same thing.

This is silly though.
I've never heard anyone in the real world or on fab use dad bod to describe anything other than a slightly out of shape man. That is too say, carrying a bit of weight that may not have been there before.
Ripped movie stars are not and never will be 'dad bods'. |

I haven’t. I generally like his take on things though so I’ll have a look on YouTube. |

"I guess in light of there not being an option for that, you could write it up as your profile status."
The status is not permanent tho...I'd have to update it every 48h or so...sounds like too much work 👀 |

I've got a bod, but I'm a grandad. I work, it keeps it in check. The only time I go to a gym is to carry out repairs.
I've not been said to have a dad bid, but, I regularly get called Hench.
I can live with that. |
