Where, if you did, did you go to university?

Why on earth is this a curiosity on fab?
Are we taking roll call for the 'professionals'?
Or more research for MI-fab?
I'd never be asking complete strangers this. What's next? Your salary? Job title? Post code?🤔 |

Strange to question this when much more intimate things are asked. I think it's an interesting question. |

Because this is a place where safety, privacy and decorum is paramount.
I would not risk the safety of myself or my children by giving the world wide web any detail that might indicate my identity or location.
Clearly that's not a common mentality. |

No but if it's what you need to do to feel safer then you do you was more of an observation than a criticism. |

Open University - Started my degree at the age of 43... alongside a full-time job and some major health issues, hence I only graduated last year; but thankfully managed to receive Upper Second Class with Honours 👩🎓 |

"École des Beaux-Arts (Paris), followed by The Sorbonne (Paris)."
So you're Peter Sarstedt's inspiration - mystery solved!!! 😂
Such is your mystique, Nero, I've no idea if your post was a joke or not! |

Performing arts at Hertfordshire University, spent two weeks at Kingston University before I ran for the hills, they lured me in with an unconditional offer and convinced me I’d make it to Hollywood based off a 2 minute audition |

You are totally correct 💯.
I went to University as a mature student, thinking I had missed out.
It was a waste of time. Alerted me to the realisation that it's over hyped. People regurgitating published academics just to show they have done the reading. |

I think actually your assessments, particularly a dissertation if you do one should demonstrate your understanding of topics.
The knowledge you gain at university definitely (most times) makes you more knowledgeable in a subject than if you done study it. And that’s hugely relevant to some people because of the careers they wish to pursue. And some people just want to learn more. I’m not going to pretend that A level sociology for example is the same standard as undergrad, it simple isn’t. |

I chose a vocational degree course (at De Montfort) and have worked in that field ever since. My final year was the last year of student grants, so I received around £3k per term and no course fees.
One of my sons graduated in a fashion related subject in 2024. He’s working but can’t get a subject related job and is stuck with £60k debt. This is the reality for a large proportion of his friends from Uni.
At some point in the last 30 years the emphasis for University education changed from personal development, learning and vocation to money grabbbng business models.
I sometimes think that the whole point is so that they can fill the accommodation that’s being churned out. |

I know people who have are named authors on published papers because of their efforts in their dissertations.
I think at university you get what you put in. Which is increasingly difficult for students particularly if they have to work part time to fund themselves.
But for those who don't need to work to fund themselves, they really need to put more effort into the academic side of their courses. Universities should not be an extension of schooling, which means there should be a high level of self learning. Skills most students don't have and one parents should be teaching their kids because our schools certainly don't. |
