Do you plan out your day and why?

I like to have my day planned ahead as far as possible, because I like the structure it gives me and this also helps me to keep track of my goals in life and the amoiunt of progress that I am making, having said that. I can of course also be flexible and change it up as well, it is not set in stone so to speak, but generally I like my day to be planned out, but not to every minute.
I read an interesting thing and did you know that while detailed planning can bring structure and clarity to your day, it is not universally recommended to plan every minute, the key is is to find a balance that works for your personality and needs.
It would be interesting to to see what kind of person you are, do you like to plan your day to every minute or are you also like me, that planning gives some kind of structure to your day and helps with your goals too? |

I write lists.
I plan.
Then the lists sit there on the pad waiting to be crossed out and the plans get changed to 'God that sofa looks comfy, I'll just sit down for a while, oh there's a new movie on Netflix.....bugger, it's time for bed' 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ |

To a certain extent.
If we have a DIY project for instance,an appointment or a specific place to gi we tend to plan our day. Otherwise because our lives were previously so regimented we tend to not plan very much. It suits us very well |

"Mostly yes I plan my day and week but I do like to also have days or weekends with little planned so I can please myself and how I feel. " Hi sirena, that is good you mostly plan your day, same here, on the weekends I have little planned, so I can also please myself how I feel too |

I plan my week, so that there's days where I can do whatever I please or deal with curve balls life throws at me.
I like to optimise my planning so I don't waste time planning, when I could be doing something else. |

I never know what my day is going to be like. I literally make it up on the day.
I don't like planning meets more than a 2/3 days in advance personal prefer on the day but I get that doesn't work for most people so have made compromises. |

As a adhd person organisation is key in managing the condition.
However it is very challenging to be organised and disciplined as you want to be.
I often feel frustrated and overwhelmed by my task list.
Keep is simple is my strategy for keeping on top of things. |

In general I hate having too much planned. I spent many hours in deadly boring jobs wishing I could be at home reading, writing, gardening, drinking coffee etc etc and now my wish has come true. 😁 |

Definitely a mixed bag for me, I can wake up and be packed and on my way with the bike and kayak to the lakes within an hour after not even planning it.
Or I can make plans and enjoy planning the details of them too. |

As perverse as it might sound, I plan "spontaneous" things in advance.
The trick is to give the illusion of spontaneity, whereas in all actuality the event is planned to a high degree.
For example, Mrs DS might fancy a trip out 100 miles away to a new place. Perhaps to see a historic building. She'd get in a car, drive and see the monument. Then worry about finding a pub for something to eat.
The night before, whilst she's asleep, I will have checked the route, calculated the time to get there. Checked for road issues. Checked the venue opening hours of the monument and their website (in case of closure/refurb/special offers).
Google mapped the area for places to eat. Shortlisted a few that look nice. Checked their websites and menus and opening hours. Streetviewed the area for interesting things. Checked the weather. Etc. Etc. Etc.
Mrs DS doesn't like the planning. I do.
Works for us

I like to plan travel and travel connections like trains times and flights and book accommodation as I like to travel independently.
I have an idea of places to visit when away but not on any particular day leave that part of any schedule for spontaneity so I can adapt if required.
The rest of the time I just make it up as I go along… |

Having every minute of the day planned sounds awful - it would feel like a prison to me. I think life happens in the space between things.
I have daily goals but they are pretty high level - get to the gym, sort out the team issue with X, etc - and I _always_ leave a lot of space free for serendipity.

It sometimes feels as if I have my life planned out by other people when I look in my diary and see all the appointments in it! I used to be a planner but have become less so, partly because I have gradually got rid of various voluntary roles that did the planning for me, and partly being on my own and not having to plan round someone else. But I do think I waste a lot of time just pondering life, past and present. |

Always have a plan for every day in terms of what work i need to do on that day.
Invariably by 09:30 the plan goes to shit and I’m then firefighting having to do what is all of a sudden urgent and then get to the actual plan at about 17:00 ha |
