It’s a romance , in a disaster movie some guy would save the world then her back with his ex.

It’s a great movie

It may be a doomed romance but it's still a romantic movie IMO

The story is interesting and fascinating enough without those two fictional twats getting in the way of it.

Great effects for 1997, apparently the interest revived Cunards’ fortunes with the QE2 as people wanted to experience an ocean liner.

So much so that QM2 was commissioned and built too.

Romance for sure. With a bit of disaster thrown in.

I think it's a tale of tragedy and triumph. Cameron pitched it as Titanic meets Romeo and Juliet, but I think it's also similar to The Highwayman and The Lord of the Rings which are tragedies but also triumphs

Our main character, Rose, is shackled by patriarchy. She has nothing in her life and, at 17, is to be married to an abusive 30 year old who wants her just as a trophy. Her life is so hopeless that she sees no way out besides suicide. But then she meets Jack and he shows her how she can find happiness. And even though she suffers through unbearable tragedy and trauma, we ultimately see that because of them, she is able to live a full and happy life.

And that's why I think, narratively, Jack was doomed to die, because gain must come with loss. In Romeo & Juliet, the truce between the Capulets and Montagues is only achieved by the death of the main characters. Similarly, Rose is only able to gain her new life after Jack loses his. We also see that the crew Rose is with are able to finally see the people who died on Titanic as human once they give up their search for the diamond.

But the movie ends with a final triumph. After seeing that Rose did, indeed, live a full and happy life, we also see that, somewhere, those who lost their lives on Titanic are still alive and Rose and Jack are reunited.

Watched it for disaster when I was younger. Watched it for romance as I got older. I think many people will have it in reverse

Mythbusters proved both could of survived on the door. The movie is iconic and we seen it on its 25th anniversary in the cinema which was a experience.

I just see it as a terrible movie. The setting was amazing. The love story was clichéd and barely worthy of a TV movie.

Yep the story is paint by numbers but if your a huge FX nerd like me (Raven_Wolf) it amazing to watch the mix of practical and CGI because CGI was not like it it is now so they had to build sets for some of the major scenes.

I see a disaster of a movie.

No need to add a shitty romance story over a historic event/tragedy

The same for Pearl harbour

That's precisely my point. It's a tremendous achievement and looks amazing. The story itself is rehashed garbage I've seen a hundred times. Woman falls for a man her parents disapprove of. Wow. Never heard that one before. A bunch of two-dimensional cliché characters going through the motions. It's just that the setting is extraordinary.

A disaster movie, which would have been greatly improved if the over hyped actors had fallen off the gangplank and drowned before they boarded.

One of the best things about dicaprio is his willingness to die at the end of his movies.

Sure he heads back to his trailer full of newbile young ladies, but the more average among us get the sweet satisfaction of watching him pop his clogs after sitting through two hours plus of his smug tiny face. 🤣😂
