"Getting COVID helped... Except I'm trying NOT to lose weight, so technically it didn't help.
To be clear, covid helps if it's helpful, but if it's not helpful it doesn't help.
Glad I could Help 🫤"
Well that’s a 1st 😁 |

The diet industry is huge business because it relies on the yo-yo principle that most overweight people spend most of their lifes on one diet or another
They are stuck in a system of two conflicting forces - the benefits of losing weight , and as the forces increases and you get slimmer , so does the pain or loss of not eating lots of tasty food /alcohol needed to cope with life/work also increased , eventually tension is too much , you bounce, again, again, again back & forth like a yo-yo.
You need to instead permanently change your relationship to food and eating, but that’s far easier said than done.
I did it and it’s working for over 20 years now. I used to eat because I was unhappy , unfulfilled, lonely & depressed and now I eat for health strength energy & to socialise. The last one is v important it allows me to eat bad stuff occasionally like take away or cake (in moderation) but never when alone.
If I find myself grazing on pizzas or cheesecake late night on my own or binge drinking I have to ask myself why? What in my life isn’t working and needs addressing. Sort that and the eating corrects itself.
Diets are for those other people stuck in the matrix , not for me.
Good luck finding your way out

I agree with you about protein, we are constantly told to eat lots of it but most of our energy actually comes from carbs. Protein is also often quite expensive, so makes a calorie deficit diet high in it hard to stick to. |

I’m down 40kg in 15 months.
Exercise and changing my diet. I haven’t been super restrictive with foods just conscious.
Can honestly say I’ve loved the journey and exercise for me is now a way of life. |

Slow and steady for me, lost around 4llb in 4 weeks by going into calorie deficit and upping my exercise routine. Consistency is key and you know I want something sweet or a packet of crisps I have it. In balance and moderation is fine.
Change your mindset and approach rather than try and change your diet drastically |

Agree. I’ve been walking 4 miles a day and it’s dropping off me. |

I eat hardly any protein yet have lots of energy , stamina & building muscle nicely, it’s all a big lie to make you buy stuff that you do not need.
Also need to think about all your internal organs and the stress of over eating protein puts on them will have an impact later in life. You need to look after your whole body, not just a bit that you can see in the mirror. |

Is a mental pain in the arse. Lost 2 at over the last year, without doing any extra exercise (life is too hectic) just reduced what I ate. But now comes the harder bit and it's blinking hard to feel a bit hungry when work is off the charts busy, threats of redundancy etc. For me at least it's easier to loose weight when I'm happy, it's a nightmare when I'm not |

I think protein is important but do bulk mine up with legumes but tend to opt for fish and chicken. A little bit of fatty meat now and then is a real treat. I stopped using lean mince a long time ago and now slow cook beef shin or chuck steak ( without trimming) and shred the meat for ragu or cottage pie. I prefer the good flavour over portion size.
I’m not scared of carbs but don’t eat anything particularly refined or white. I’ll go for roast parsnips and carrots over potatoes but my choices aren’t sustainable for everyone so you’ve just got to do what suits you. |

"I find it very very easy to lose weight . The battle is trying to keep it off "
You would keep it off if you changed your eating habits for life. Sounds dismal but it is easy once you know how. Diets are just a quick fix. I have been the the same size and weight for 35years after making a few changes. |

I think it was Steve Jobs who said it’s always easier to join the dots when you’re looking back, but looking forward you just have to have faith in your decisions & belive in them.
Permanent changes one of the hardest things in the world. Even the most in Grand habits can be broken so easily when something in the external environment changes. Making your good habits truly resilient takes a huge amount of psychological work.

If you can't lose weight you are mentally weak.

And you are totally perfect no doubt. And never ever make a wrong choice. Because that would mean you're mentally weak no? |

I've found recently intermittent fasting to be really good. Only eat during the times you are active. Because that way you are burning off the intake. Also fruits are your friends. Eat as much as you like good natural sugars. |

10k steps a day and a 500 cal a day deficit is easy. Tracking activity levels and weighing everything that goes in your gob.
1kg loss a week is better in the long term and means you don't get as hungry. Slow burn along with weights ensures minimal muscle loss.
Focus on how you look and feel verses the weighing scales. No drawbacks to being a sensible fat level and only negatives to being fat |

This is the best advice on this thread. It’s pretty similar to what I have done and I’ve lost over 4 stone. |

I got very sick in 2020 and lost about 5 stone in 6-9 months. The extreme weight loss fucked my gallbladder, caused immense pain and I had to have it taken out. Slow and steady weight loss for the win! |

I don’t need to lose weight but having been told I’m borderline diabetic (runs in the family) I am changing my lifestyle by not snacking on biscuits and high sugar content things. Eating more fruit, if I snack, have healthy ones etc. hard going but levels are reducing thankfully now I just need to tone up… 💪🏻 |

Top tip from a type 1 diabetic (autoimmune condition) if you do eat something sugary have it with a protein or if no protein around then a fat. Fat slows sugar getting into your blood stream, keeps your sugars lower and more level |

I'm mentally very weak. I can lose weight without thinking about it.
Your statement is erroneous. |

"Less eating...close thread. not quite as easy as that though.
I have to eat more than I normally do to loose weight and often. "
Yes, but probably alot of good foods rather than little of bad foods. It's not about the amount you eat but what you eat which makes the difference. |

Thank you lovely, not me no. I've struggled to lose weight and to lose weight whilst going through perimenopuse is no easy task... I'm proud of myself and wouldn't let some moronic comment from a stranger on the internet kill my vibe xx |

The piece about buring off more than you consume is basically true (though there's obviously nuance).
The piece about "mental weakness" is certified bollocks. |

The assertion was that something is a law of physics.
You said, no, it's a law of thermodynamics.
However, we agree that thermodynamics is (a branch of) physics.
Ergo, any law of thermodynamics is a law of physics.

Or eat later in the morning and as soon as posable in the evening then just water or an apple. I have breakfast at around 10.30am and last eating at 5.30pm. Then let the body burn fat. |
