Let’s have recommendations for those great pubs all over the uk

Not necessarily just where you live (privacy etc)

But those uk gems you’ve found

Short description of why it’s great and let’s stop those pubs closing

Good one OP

I’ve been lucky through my job to visit my great pubs. No I’m not in the trade.

My current favourite is “The Seven Stars” in Stourbridge. Black Country ales pub. They have done a great job restoring it. Great real ales and packed when I went 3 weeks ago.

Northampton/south coast

The Malt Shovel in Northampton. Not far walk from town. Fab ale and whisky selection, a rugby fans pub too. Always packed whenever it's a match day.

Ex publican here. The breweries are what's killing our pubs.

One of my favourite pubs is the Hotham Arms, in Hotham near York.

if you want to dance though, Domino club in Leeds.

If you like cheap drinks and a feel of nostalgia, The beehive in Newcastle.

If you fancy potentially being snowed in for three weeks plus, the highest pub in the UK, The Tan Hill Inn near Richmond, North Yorkshire is pretty cool in the winter.

I actually did get stuck at the tan hill once, devastated to be stuck in a pub

The older Jerusalem in Nottingham. Oldest pub in England, all little rooms off, its wall is adjacent to Nottingham castle and you can have a tour of the cellars

I'm not going to suggest any, partly as I rarely go in them anymore but mainly all the ones I used to frequent have shut up shop, burnt down or are now flats. I have no wish to be the reason for another establishment to go under

Stafford

The old Fountain off Old Street not quite Shoreditch not quite Hoxton off City road if you know it? Independently owned by the same family for over 70 years. They don’t sell Carling,Stella or Strongbow so it’s a dickhead free environment but they have 8 cask and 12 craft/keg lines the owners come from a culinary background and the food is spectacular particularly the roast. I’m fortunate to know the city intimately and this manor has changed so much for the better I feel. The pub hasn’t and is very welcoming and is an absolute gem probably the best boozer in an EC postcode if not London itself.

Glasgow

The Laurieston in Glasgow. Some people may be put off by the way it looks from the outside but it's probably the most welcoming pub in the city. The Pot Still is also a great one if you are big on whisky. Tons of single malts from Scotland, whiskeys from all over the world and the staff are great.

Sadly no. But did both gin and juice and rum and fizz. Actually I think gin and juice was a recommendation from a fabber on a thread

Den of Iniquity

Save all Taprooms / Freehold Pubs ..

Chain pubs will be fine anyway but we need to save the proper village and country pubs..

For many people it is their only social activity as it was with my Dad ..

Im very much an advocate of saving traditional British pubs ❤️

York

In York there's a few great pubs.

For me it's Valhalla in the Shambles

Or The Last Drop inn. In the centre.

Or The Slip Inn off the Bishopthorpe road.. small pub, but at least 8 ales on at any time.

Stonehouse Brewery local to me only sells their own creations brewed on site....They have a lovely little restaurant linked into the distillery with viewing windows where you can sit and watch what's going on....I don't drink but I love going there, it's only open until 9 pm as well so you don't get rowdy d*unkards...

It's out of town but you can catch a steam train from town to the brewery
