Smokers. Some questions.

Alicante, Spain. (Sometimes in Wales)

I’m genuinely looking for answers here, but I’ll start with some observations.

If I can smell cigarette smoke, it means the carcinogenic stuff is entering my system, albeit in smaller amounts than that entering the smoker’s body.

Cigarette ends often contain plastics and take years to break down.

Two questions start with ….

Why do so many smokers stand right at the pub door so anyone entering has to walk through a veil of poisonous smoke.

Why do so many smokers discard cigarette ends directly onto the floor?

Smokers, it’s your choice what you do with your body, but not mine.

Let me hear your thoughts.

I can't stand smokers and I smoke. The smell, look, taste not to mention odour, expense, addiction and health affects. I've increased a lot since covid - I try and keep it away from people as much as I can but I do detest the smell when others are as it fkn honks.

And I agree with you as far as littering, but then again, people throw any and all kinds on the floor, so yes they are smaller and harder to pick up but there are a lot of people at fault for a lot of things

I smoke but will stand away from the door and put my cigarette butt in the nearest bin if I can find one.

Gbat good questions along with, when you flick your dog ends out of your car window, along with the cellophane wrapping, what do you think happens to them?

Tbf most people I see who smoke are the same. These days is easy to avoid close proximity with anyone who does if you want to as far as I can see. I suppose it might also depend to where someone goes and when. It certainly not an issue as it used to be but the OP may have had a bad experience so hard to tell.

Because they don’t care.

My parents were chain smokers (40 a day each, though dad gave up in the mid 80s) and they smoked in the house, in the car- when I went to school my classmates told me I smelled of smoke 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮, the walls were yellow with nicotine…. I was a passive smoker against my will for my first 20 years of life.

I just hope it doesn’t affect me in the future.

I don’t smoke anymore, but you smoke where the pub tells you to smoke if it’s outside the door that’s the pubs fault.

I’ve moved now but my previous local hospital was meant to be smoke free, even the grounds. But you couldn’t get in the main entrance without pushing past all the smokers and walking through plumes of smoke.

I’m an ex smoker, 30 a day till I had a heart attack aged 39. And yes ex smokers are the worst. I hate the smell of it since I quit and vapes are just as bad. I get an instant headache if I’m around someone vaping.

The question was answered earlier, smokers and vapers are just selfish. They don’t care how it affects you.

Mrs still smokes but it meant to be giving up, just finding it tough.

Was about £5 a pack when I quit, can’t believe how much they are now. Could buy a car with how much the Mrs spends a month, just crazy.

land of make believe

I smoke, however I am not a smoker of the kind you describe.

I am mindful & care how my home and I smell.

I also wouldn't date a smoker either for these reasons.

I have been awake since 6am & havnt had a cigarette,it doesn't have to be constant.

I absolutely hate people vaping near me too.

little house on the praire

I no longer smoke, I did for 46 years though.

I try to avoid smokers at all costs as they stink. I can smell cigarettes from a mile off.

I used to carry like a little pot with a lid on in my handbag and would put my ash and dog ends in there till I got home.

They say ex smokers are even worse than those that have never smoked.

Well it's defintly true in my case

Your life is mostly going to be affected far worse by other pollution.

In Alicante, it's equivalent to smoking a cigarette today but is like multiple chain smoking cigarettes at other times.

It's slightly better than that, in Manchester today.

Blame governments that have wanted to cut red tape, have imposed austerity and reduced resources, for environmental standards management and enforcement, in the UK. You are ingesting lots of pollution, 24 x 7, not just via the air.

At least in Spain, you don't have UK privatised water companies, pumping raw sewage into rivers and beaches

Paradise, Herts

Probably the only place I’d smoke apart from mine or someone’s garden is outside a pub. I wouldn’t stand right near the pub door as I’m aware other people don’t want to walk through it. Anywhere else outside is fair game though as far as I’m concerned. Although I probably wouldn’t if someone was sat on a close table outside eating their dinner. With regards to putting it out, if there’s an ashtray or bin, which there usually would be outside a pub, then I’d put it in there.

Those are my thoughts. Hope that helps

I've never smoked, but my parents did, my mam discovered through her smoking it caused our dog to have muzzle cancer, so passive smoking affects pets as well as people and can be worse than if you smoke yourself

I get that it’s probably more annoying for you as a non smoker though. As you know, I have a place not far from you and you can smoke outside at the table and most people will want to be eating outside over there. So I get why it would bug you if you’re eating. When I’m in Spain I do step away from the table if others nearby are eating.

Sorry, no.

There’s no pub that tells punters to smoke directly outside the front door. In my example, the slightly further away beer garden is empty. You can smoke there if you must.

If you can smell it, imagine what it's like for a non smoker.

". ….and put my cigarette butt in the nearest bin if I can find one. "

What do you do if you CAN’T find a bin?

If I’m out on the mountain, I carry everything home with me, which might be a journey of several hours on foot.

What do you do?

Blame the govt for people smoking and not considering others? Ok
