Crying in the toilets
Jump to: Newest in thread
I am not afraid to say I have done it, it’s not often but it does happen, where else is there a truly private place at work? It’s why I now look very carefully into workplace culture and who they treat their team |

I once had to go to the toilets for ten minutes and calm down when a subordinate member of staff on my team would not listen to the instructions I was giving him and was being purposefully difficult because the manager wasn't in, and my anger was rising and rising. I had to remove myself from the situation before I lost my shit, especially as he had got my predecessor fired for shouting at him in the office! He was a nasty piece of work. I went to the toilets, had an angry cry for two minutes, did some deep breaths and then went back out and told him to do what he wants but I wouldn't be fixing his mess when it all went wrong.
Not telling him to fuck off that day took my entire willpower
I don't miss the office environment and some of the cretins I had to work with. |

Should have reported the bell end. No colleagues intervene? |

When he went on his lunch some of the others on the team came over to ask if I was okay and to slag him off to me but everyone was scared of him because he was the type to complain about the slightest thing and try and get your fired, so nobody intervened 🤣 even the manager was scared of him so there was no point telling him either. It was a very toxic team, so glad I'm not working with them anymore. |

Doesn't sound like the nicest of environments to work in but long as you enjoy what you're doing now. |

Not any more.
If I'm wound up enough to cry at work you better believe it's being known and passed up to HR.
When I was a teenage waitress I had the odd bathroom breakdown when there were particularly shitty customers and I was on my 16th AFD in a row though 💜 |

I'm in a different section of the organisation now thankfully 😅 but yes, that was a very toxic team. |

"Yep people cry in toilets because everyone gets embarrassed when anyone cries in public and immediately tells them not to.
Nobody rushes to the lavs to laugh not even at funerals?"
There are a few exceptions of course |

Yeah, it happened quite early on in my career when I was feeling overwhelmed and feelings of self doubt in my role. It wasn't fully on sobbing but could feel myself well up at my desk so just had to go to let the feeling pass. |

I've done it, I've also broke down when trying to explain my frustration to a senior member when a patient is being a tool to me (luckily changed roles so doesn't happen as often), or I've stepped out the back door and I eternally screamed.
Sometimes you just need that release and then get back to it |

I was once at a work Xmas do, utterly pissed and Iocked myself in a toilet cubicle and I cried, laughed, sang, went back to crying, laughing… my lovely late colleague crawled under the door to get me out 😂😂😂😂😂😂
And yes, I’ve heard crying in toilet cubicles, not necessarily at work. Having asked the mandatory “are ypu ok?” question, I always get the British stiff upper lip “yeah, I’m alright…” 🤷♀️ |
