Watching Semenyo get racially abused by a Liverpool fan yesterday got me thinking ‘he’s a better man than most’ for how he dealt with it.

How do you or would you cope with someone being abusive towards you?

I would have hopped the barrier and took away his wheels, but total respect to Semenyo for handling it the correct way.

La la land

Very much depends on how safe I feel. There have been instances where I've ignored it and walked very quickly away. There are others where I've confronted it and actually got an apology.

O o O oo

I think it was the best way to deal with it, highlight it to the ref then stick two fingers up to the abuser by scoring two goals and then watch the abuser get taken out by the police.

The younger me would have reacted which is what the person wanted etc but now I'm a bit meh..

If it's a loved one then challenge it if safe to do so..

Semenyo was the bigger person so utmost respect to him for how he dealt with what the moronic idiot said..

Glasgow South

A younger me would have dealt with it in an Eric Cantona style..I feel the player dealt with it correctly and hopefully the sorrounding fans took it on board and escalated it within the club..No room for that in the past, present or future...Arsehole

Don't think it would ever go to a criminal conviction.

After all,it's one person's word against another, unless a mic close at hand picked it up.

Still disgusting behavior.

Year that being a bigger person is a load of ballix. A boot in the balls would have been the better thing to do. Liverpool fans really are scum.

I've ignored it in the past, but I'm a non confrontational person. I get more angry on other people's behalf.

I started dating a black guy a few years ago and the covert racism I observed whilst being out and about with him astounded me. Subtle things that I wouldn't have noticed if I weren't WITH him. We walked out of a couple of bars at my decree after a declaration of disgusting service!

Typically, dealing with racial abuse is something many people of colour have to do and the sad answer is that we ignore it.

In the current political climate, abuse and discrimination for people like me is not only commonplace in the street, the workplace and the media, but also within the institution of state.

How do I deal with that? I simply ignore it. Haters gonna hate. Life's to short to care.

Also love seeing flag shaggers all over SM crying about lack of free speech whilst calling Black people the N word on Twitter and getting into zero trouble. Pathetic.

It’s always fascinating and we’ve had some interesting discussions about it.

I was listening to the radio this week when they were discussing an article in the mirror around a report of over 15000 suspensions/expulsions from schools recorded last year including by children as young as four.

The incident as it happened was as mad and on the first day of the new season just says it all

I can’t believe the rise in exclusions for some of the shit you see. Truly worrying.

As for the football, I hope that was the only incident of the year but there will be more of course. Plus it’s a World Cup year so unless we win it, that’s guaranteed abuse for Black players when we’re out.

I let my husband deal with it, that usually sorts it out!

I bum 'em. No-one can hate me after I've bummed them. They're like putty in mind hands. I'm kind of like a vampire. But I don't bite. I bum.

Is it not more important in today's society to ask if someone next to you is inappropriate how would you deal with it. If those in a stand can't ast what are you doing. Or someone on a train "accidentally brush a boob" it's up to all of us to call them out.

NO?
