"So, my only real interest is sociology tbh. So much so that some friends and I host a sociology supper club every few months where we meet and talk deep stuff and occasionally get really sociological. And we bring guests. " This sounds fucking great! Would love to hear about some of your most recent deep chats if you'd be comfy to share anything 😇

"Damn, all my nerdy interests are sexual stuff ☹️ I'm kidding, I'm really into wrestling, coffee and the gym. The doesn't sound nerdy, but when you get into workout splits and the science behind why certain lifts and movements are better for your goals, it can get really nerdy!" Nothing indulges my inner nerd more than the gym. Programmes, technique, years of historical data. Hell, I'm one step away from line graph of PBs over the years to show progression.

Considering I hated science when I was in school, it's actually rather annoying how much science is involved in both the gym and in coffee 😂

I trained like a competitive powerlifter for several years, had no interest in competing haha just enjoyed how thorough it was. Getting more into calisthenics now and switched to a greasing the groove style rather than heavy use & recovery periods, which is a lot of fun in a totally different way. Briefly dabbled with peptides too but they're a bit spendy for me 🫠😂

"I’ve been doing some writing recently, which I’m the opposite of trained for. It’s meant reading up about it, listening to others talking about their process and quite a lot of hard work to generate some output. I’m learning about storytelling, character development and all the nuts and bolts of something that’s very creative yet also a mountain of problem solving too. You fuckers had better watch out that you’re not in the story and that I don’t kill off your character in a messy way I love to write, what kind(s) have you been dabbling with?

"I love watching you tube of people doing embroidery. Especially goldwork, the kind you see on religious garments or balet dancers costumes. Beaded all the better... and what they call stumpwork. Its so clever how thread becomes works of art right there in front of your face." Fibre arts are so cool! I love embroidery, crochet, weaving is fascinating too. I have a few projects on the go, one of these years I'll finish one 😂

It wasn't an immediate switch for me which probably made it much easier, I had some time off due to illness so I came back to the gym to start over in a different style of training rather than transitioning from one to the other. I love it, so much more variable and flexible, and needs far less equipment! I have a pair of olympic rings; with those, a floor mat, and a plyo box I can do a full body workout in 45 mins. Plateau was one of my biggest peeves with lifting tbh, I just got so bored of it! Add a plate, remove a plate, whatever, I'm still doing the same 25 exercises every week 😮💨

" Oh god that is not a small question lmao, it's an enormous field ranging from super mainstream stuff that's now in shampoos and moisturisers, to experimental research chemicals with no human trials which come with "NOT FOR HUMAN APPLICATIONS" warnings 😂 It really depends on what you're interested in, for me I wanted a bit of support to get through that AWFUL rehab/physio stage of coming back to training after a long period of illness, so I used some capacity/endurance related stuff that affects muscles, mitochondria, and energy (they were also fatburners, but that wasn't my interest in them). NAD+ is fairly well studied, 5amino-1MQ less so but there's plenty of anecdotal stuff around now. I also used sloop (SLU-PP-332) which I found quite effective at helping me get all the way through workouts and day-to-day tasks when struggling with fatigue, felt like I had just a bit more in the tank y'know, but it did make me sweat more so I don't like it in the summer heat 🫠 There are SO many though, affecting anything from the vascular system to the connective tissues to the brain's capacity for learning (I found this interesting but I was wary of things that cross the blood-brain barrier, ironic for a recovering addict lmao). It really depends on your personal wants, needs, and risk profile - the science available for them varies a LOT! Quite a few only have animal studies and anecdotal human evidence, so it's often largely down to how comfortable you are with guinea-pigging yourself. I didn't get too deep into it, and obviously none of this is advice or recommendation, just the surface stuff I gleaned in my brief foray

I've been doing the same program since the start of the year and there are certain exercises I just can't break through. My bench press has pretty much been the same for months 😓" Honestly, it had become a chore for quite a while before I had to take time off, I was ready for a change. I still have a fair bit of my lifting kit, I need to refurb and sell it in time for the January fitness pacts 😂 I'm way more flexible, my functional strength is improved rather than being really powerful only within extremely specific movements haha, my chronic pain is better controlled than it was with PL, and I'm just far more interested in training again - I'm excited to go to the gym rather than dragging my ass to the rack y'know?? Ugh that's so frustrating! Maybe time to switch it up a bit yourself?

"Damn, all my nerdy interests are sexual stuff ☹️ I'm kidding, I'm really into wrestling, coffee and the gym. The doesn't sound nerdy, but when you get into workout splits and the science behind why certain lifts and movements are better for your goals, it can get really nerdy! Nothing indulges my inner nerd more than the gym. Programmes, technique, years of historical data. Hell, I'm one step away from line graph of PBs over the years to show progression. Tell me you have a spreadsheet for it too 👀💦 Dozens. And now an app to track every single workout, with weekly reports on muscles targeted and total weight lifted. It's a nerd's paradise. Ooo, which do you use? I really like Calistree, one of the only apps I pay for, plus I love that the free version is totally functional and not just a teaser for the paywall I use Boostcamp - really like it too (and use the free version which is more than good enough for me) Nice! I use one that's literally called Strong. It tracks andly new PRs in terms of weight, volume or 1RM tells me the intensity percentage increase/decrease on an exercise from the last session." I've heard this is good! Bend has also been recommended to me, for flexibility stuff

The doesn't sound nerdy, but when you get into workout splits and the science behind why certain lifts and movements are better for your goals, it can get really nerdy! I love gym nerdery! I trained like a competitive powerlifter for several years, had no interest in competing haha just enjoyed how thorough it was. Getting more into calisthenics now and switched to a greasing the groove style rather than heavy use & recovery periods, which is a lot of fun in a totally different way. Briefly dabbled with peptides too but they're a bit spendy for me 🫠😂 Can we hear more about peptides? Oh god that is not a small question lmao, it's an enormous field ranging from super mainstream stuff that's now in shampoos and moisturisers, to experimental research chemicals with no human trials which come with "NOT FOR HUMAN APPLICATIONS" warnings 😂 It really depends on what you're interested in, for me I wanted a bit of support to get through that AWFUL rehab/physio stage of coming back to training after a long period of illness, so I used some capacity/endurance related stuff that affects muscles, mitochondria, and energy (they were also fatburners, but that wasn't my interest in them). I didn't get too deep into it, and obviously none of this is advice or recommendation, just the surface stuff I gleaned in my brief foray Gosh, thank you - that is already way more than is reasonable to expect in a forum post! I literally know nothing about them, so already much better informed! " Haha I never did get the hang of brevity 😂

"Workshop tinkering. 3D printing. Chess. Hats off to the physics guys, they were the brightest at uni. Shame most of them went into finance. What kind of workshop tinkering? What do you like to print? I love chess! Feel free to send me your lichess name if you'd like to play Haha, shame indeed 🫠 Some charity stuff, making bits and pieces for around the house, word working, metal working. Printing is mostly to help fixing broken stuff, but I use it for work too. I don’t play chess online - or I haven’t yet anyway. Just with the kids. A way of staying off screens." Ooo, a tinkerer! Awesome 😊 love to craft random useful bits and pieces Real chessboards with real pieces are so much better than online, honestly - I'm just a hermit who lives alone 😂

"Well the fact that there is no unified theory of anything is the biggest missing link in physics. We understand what happens on the macro scale because we can effectively ignore quantum mechanics, and conversely we know the inner workings of atoms because we can effectively ignore gravity… but our construct of physics breaks down once we have to consider big things in small spaces, eg in black holes (no pun intended as we are on a sex website lol). Care for more?" I have heard a little about this, how everything we know about the one falls apart as soon as we examine the other, and we've so far been unable to reconcile them?? Though I'm 1000% certain my current understanding is a little below secondary school level and entirely lacking of any and all nuance or complexity 😂 I would love to hear more 😇

"I'll go with a couple that are quite niche. FPL - I know millions play it, but I'm part of a podcast discord and use optimisation to get my imaginary points. Financial science - again, there's a YouTube channel, podcast and forum which is one the nerdiest places online! Have a 5 factor model t-shirt that I'm very happy to have, although it's statistically very unlikely I'll run into someone who understands what it means in person... 😅 Congrats, this is the first thing mentioned I'm not familiar with at all 😂 what is? I did say niche, avoided my more common but still nerdy ones. 😅 FPL - fantasy premier league, pick players and you get points based on their real life performance. The Fama-French five-factor model explains asset returns using five factors: Market Risk, Size, Value, Profitability, and Investment. My t-shirt has the words Mkt-RF, SMB, HML, RMW and CMA on it. White on black background. It'll probably look like a random mess of letters to most people!" Ah, the P threw me! I have heard of fantasy football haha, though most of my knowledge relates to gambling around it 😂 Honestly my ignorance of the finance world is deliberate 😂

I don't know why people gamble on negative expected value bets tbh, I wouldn't mind people taking on positive expected value bets even with a high variance - they'll get the high risk, but there needs to be a high reward big enough to justify the risk. What applications do you prefer, if you don't mind? Computer science is a good applied maths discipline but that's what I studied and do, so I think it would've been cheating to mention that for me.

You fuckers had better watch out that you’re not in the story and that I don’t kill off your character in a messy way I’m not sure, it might make more sense as a radio play or audiobook/podcast series as book publishing is incredibly crowded. "I don't know why people gamble on negative expected value bets tbh, I wouldn't mind people taking on positive expected value bets even with a high variance - they'll get the high risk, but there needs to be a high reward big enough to justify the risk." The long odds are part of the rush for a gambler; the likelihood of losing makes winning that much sweeter when it happens, and the suspense in the meantime is powerful, the adrenaline released by the whole process is intense. The psychology behind it is actually pretty interesting. I play poker, but don't gamble at bookies or gaming tables etc, I like to have some control over my odds 😂 +EV bets aren't really gambling, having a high likelihood of returns gets more into investment territory quite quickly. The whole point of the gambling industry is that everything is stacked against the punters from the start. "What applications do you prefer, if you don't mind? Computer science is a good applied maths discipline but that's what I studied and do, so I think it would've been cheating to mention that for me." Pretty much anything else tbh, I just dislike the finance sector for so many reasons 🤷

You fuckers had better watch out that you’re not in the story and that I don’t kill off your character in a messy way I understand that, although radio plays are difficult to get going. Audiobook/podcasts are hardly less crowded than print/ebook publishing, but that's not to say not worth doing! I write poetry, erotica, some fiction, some political analyses, a bit of a variety haha

I hate chemistry I’m just good at remembering facts and figures, which means I have all sorts of useless nerdy bits of information stuck in my head haha My biggest nerdy obsession though is writing crime fiction books and actually explaining the science behind the forensics " I would love to hear more about your writing!
