The Greatest sport?

So we had a debate at work on what is 'The greatest sport ever invented by man'? I said windsurfing and skiing! My colleague said football, because old people can't play, thus only young people can. So I asked him 'how old are you'? He said 25, I said 'do you play it'? He said 'no'. I said 'there are people who ski and windsurf in their late 60's. And windsurfing keeps you fit and you're with nature, and windsurfing and skiing are sports you don't watch like a potato couch, but you actively DO at a very young age till later in life. |

From a spectator’s perspective and for pure excitement and entertainment it has to be Hurling! It’s the fastest field sport in the world and completely unique; picture a fusion of hockey, rugby, baseball and lacrosse and your close 😍

Skiing and windsurfing are activities, not sports. Like ice skating or any of the horse sports. I know these technically are sports, but I view them like I view running, it's just a form of exercise 🤷♂️ |

Motorcycle racing is the greatest sport invented!
IMHO anyway 😆
Not many sports have such incredible thrills and high risk as bike racing!
The skill and ability required is immense and balls of steel too! |

I think wrestling is considered the oldest sport in history, so anything that lasted for thousands of years and has been depicted in various ways throughout the world and different civilisations, I'd say deserves to make the list 👍 |

There's actually a World Championship in Jousting!
It's not for the fainthearted though. I know a couple of folk who compete, & it's full-on hard contact. Injuries are very common.
Plus, it's hideously expensive, a set of harness (armour) will set you back a minimum of £15k and then you need the horse, the saddle etc plus transport. |

I know, the adrenaline from blasting ,with the wind blowing in your face is so awesome and addictive. It's not something you can ever explain to people. |

Less so now than in the years prior to the naughties - random testing through the off season, baseline levels taken for hormones so elevated can be picked up (happens when you first turn pro), testing of all podium positions plus random selection of the peleton. Not saying it doesn't happen but it's vastly reduced.
Besides descending down a twisty mountain road with no safety fencing at 80-90km/HR and your only PPE is 0.5mm of lycra and a bit of styrofoam on your head takes some balls |

Football.
Can be played with any number of people. Caters for all abilities. Affordable to everyone. It brings most of the world together, whether they play or spectate. |

I think Hobby horsing was meant for kids up to 7, but somewhere along the line it's gone up to all ages. Apparently they are considering it for the 2028 Olympics. This is definitely going down the rabbit hole ...

The alternate definition of a
sport is that it requires big balls to do. Therefore football still isn't a sport even if they are fit and skilled.
Speedway is an unbelievable sport. They have massive balls.
