Saw a couple of bands play Hull Adelphi, Green Day had just released their second album, and also a band called PJ Harvey, fronted by Polly Harvey supported Leatherface at the same venue when they had just released their debut single. |

T'Pau and The The.
Hammersmith ocean.
Another group just starting out poached our keyboard player. It was their lead singer who tempted him away. Saw their first gig.
The group became known as Marillion and the lead singer was Fish. |

Met Fish and Roy Wood one random Sunday night in the old Yates in Wolverhampton |

I missed this as I was working a night shift at the time but my brother invited me out for a couple of drinks and to watch a singer. That singer had 12 people watching him in a little venue in Liverpool. Three weeks later he was played on radio and the rest is history.
That singer was Sam Fender…..gutted |

One of my biggest regrets ever was turning down the chance to see an unknown female singer at my university students union. Tickets were only £4 and it was an acoustic guitar set. I said no to my mate because I’d never heard of her.
It was Amy Winehouse before her debut album came out. |

"Cradle of Filth.....Before make up. They were only 17"
A long long time ago I was around several bands and their members, cradle of filth being one of them they drank in the same pub's as me and my friends I also worked with the (then) front man from my dying bride and I'm still mates with their drummer, I also knew evile before they made it well their original bassist before he sadly passed away on tour, their current bassist is also a very good acquaintance of mine, having said all of that I've never actually seen my dying bride or evile perform live as their complete band's and have only COF at download. Kinda madness when you think about it.

I saw AC DC the very first time they played uk ..it was a pub in London. Melody Maker had mentioned them and suggested people check them out. Every one was rather bewildered by the guitarist dressed as a schoolboy . Lol..little did we know... |

Radiohead; they were the support band for some long forgotten band in the Buckley Tiv on the day they had a tiny article about them in the NME. They were amazing and it was clear that they were something special |

Mine also was Radiohead at the Fleece in Bristol . All I knew about them was the photo of the band that was in a local listings magazine.
When to see them purely on the strength of the photo and band name.
Also watched The Killers in a small tent at a festival. A couple of weeks or so later Mr Brightside was released…. |

Think I saw her even before that, when she was just starting out by herself she did a couple of guest vocals tracks with another band from the West Country called The Family Cat in the early 90’s and fairly sure she sang on their first tour with them |

"Van Halen supporting Black Sabbath in 1978 and Motorhead supporting Hawkwind in 1975 at Preston Guild Hall. Both the support bands blew the headliners away on the night! God I'm old! "
Interesting, wasn't Lemmy in both bands? |

I remember The Family Cat but wasn't a fan. I didn't know of the PJ Harvey link. I've checked the date of the Hull gig and it was 27 October 1991 so before the release of the 1st single. I'm sure they'd done a Peel session and I think he'd possibly also played the single Dress presumably as a pre-release. It was a strange bill as Leatherface and P J Harvey were very different bands, but I enjoyed both. |

Oasis played the Jug of Ale in Moseley, Birmingham in the early '90s. The place (now gone) only held a couple of hundred, neither of us were there but there's about 6,000 people now that claim they were. |

I saw Kiss in their less popular period at the Manchester apollo, a very small venue for them.
The support band sounded quite melodic & rather loud, so I left the merchandise queue & joined the couple of hundred people in front of the stage. I wrote a review for my school magazine, saying they could be a popular singles band.
History wrote itself afterwards for Bon Jovi. |

"U2. Saw them play Retford porterhouse , might have been 1980 .hopefully some one on here can confirm that date."
U2 was very well known in Irleand only as a gigging band in 1980 and their gigs were excellent.
What you saw in Lincoln was the start of their international breakout, and very rare. |

"Girls School (supporting Whitesnake I think in 1981?). To be fair, I don't know if anyone ever knew them.
Girlschool are the band i've seen the most,80 times between 1978 and 2025."
Correct me if I’m wrong. St Valentine’s Day Massacre with Motorhead, early 80’s? |

Coldplay, moments before they released their first album. A very empty venue for a very boring gig.
My Chemical Romance before they released their first album, supporting Jimmy Eat World, or Thursday, I can’t remember. They were decent enough! Shame they turned out to be so shit. |

'Reef' ...a six degrees of separation thing, they were school friends of a friend of mine in Uni days so saw them play then, before 'Glow' and the Sony MiniDisk advert (which was cool as fuck BTW!).
I've got a vague and hazy recollection of a party on a Farm in Somerset that belonged to one of their families (I think anyway; it could have just been some random farm with a bunch of fucked up kids, but I'm sure there was a connection 🤷♂️) |

I saw U2 at the Top Rank Suite in Brighton in 1982, brilliant night & it was Adam Claytons birthday too, so they brought him out a cake & presents which he openedwhile Bono tried to play his bass. Saw them again at a packed out Twickenham but for me they'd gone, it was awful. |

I went to see The Manic Street Preacers at The Tropic club Bristol around the time of Mowtown Junk. At sound check they kept tripping noise limiters and said sod it and buggered off! The same thing happened before when I went to see The Wonderstuff there when Give Give Give Me More More More came out.!!
But i did see The Queer Boys there. There was only 3 of us in the audience. I did stay to to end, after all id spent my money on getting in so wasn't going to leave early. |

To be honest MOST of the bands I've seen live are the obscure ones you never heard of but I did see Snow Patrol as a support act at Rock City just before they released their hit album and became famous.
Not the coolest claim to fame but I was there 🙋🏻♀️ |
