I am currently on a weight loss and fitness journey. Are any other fabbers on one too or have been on one? I try and walk 15k a day as a baseline which I enjoy, gets me out the house. I am also looking into doing weights soon! Would love to hear your stories! |

I've lost 7kg in total over the span of two years
Slow and steady. Consistency in exercise routine helps lay the foundation for sustainability
I do zumba 3 times a week including zumba step along with dance class, boxing, pilates and swimming once a week. I also do weights
I don't diet because I don't believe there is good or bad food, food is food, if I want chocolate, cake, crisps I have it but less of it.
After years of issues with food changing my attitude towards it that has been a game changer....Again assimilating that into your mental schema embeds the foundation for sustainability

Yes.
I used to be a marathon runner and a bloody fast one.
So my first weight loss journey came in 2010, I used to run for the army and came out in 2005, smashed my left leg up weeks after leaving.
I then went on to run many marathons and also wrote for running mags and became an ambassador for brooks and garmin!
Then injury hit in 2015, stopped running, put almost 40 kilos on and now I’m getting back fit again.
One stone down in 2 months and training daily! |

I've lost 90kg in 3 years with dieting and exercise. Was too big to move properly at first so I got a spin bike and started off slow on that. Building up to 25km rides daily.
Got bored of that but have found now I enjoy getting my steps in alot more recently.
Might sound daft but the first 10k steps i do of a morning I do marching on the spot, just stick my old stool club tunes on and match to the beat.
Then I go out during the day/evening for proper walks and clock up another 10k steps.
Everything in moderation is good food wise but I tend to stick to about 1200 ish calories a day, easy to do with volume eating as I'm a hungry gal lol.
Best if luck on your journey x |

I don’t personally like the term ‘weight loss’ I prefer fat loss, a combination of diet and exercise, the body burns more calories at rest with more muscle so you can eat more and still be in a deficit, but it also weighs more than fat.
That being said, you need to be happy in your own skin, regardless of how much fat you have. I’ve seen the fittest people hate their bodies and the counter as well.
Well done to anyone that’s making a personal change for the better of their health whether that be mental or physical. |

Gradual weight loss may be less likely to have the body rebound with a substantial fight against the loss, by reducing its metabolism and other fightbacks, to get it reversed. The body wants you to revert to the normal higher weight |

Understanding this and set point theory makes long term weight loss maintenance much easier to manage. Reverse dieting and feed days( calorie cycling) have been key in me not gaining and getting through stalls. I think I’ve learned every trick in the book now |

Having always been quite slim, I've never been in a position where I had to lose weight, but putting on size has been a challenge and now that I have, I am panicking a bit on the extra bit of fat I'm seeing and wondering if I need to try and lose it or stick with the process of I end up putting on more muscle with it. |

I (the bloke) have recently lost about 40kg through managing diet and now I'm exercising regularly.
It was through an NHS program but unfortunately we didn't get to use any weight loss jabs.
I still have a way to go, but I am now worried about whether it'll leave excess skin and I'm getting quite self conscious about it already. |

Some inspirational stories here, thank you for sharing. A couple of years ago I managed to lose about 10kg. 7kg has since crept back on and I need to look after myself a bit better, so reading this thread is good. |

If you lose weight gradually, your skin will be better able to adjust, compared with massive, very quick loss. |

Thank you. Yes it would've been better to have done it gradually, but the program I was on focuses on most of the weight being lost over about five months, so it was pretty rapid.
I'm very glad to have done it. Although it's kind of replaced one body anxiety with another 🤷♂️ |

My weight has been a constant source of personal misery for years. Last year I started the injections but sadly the side effects meant I had to stop them. My loss wasn't drastic so didn't seem worth going through it month to month. Since then I've put what I lost back on. I'm now back at slimming world (I don't need a lecture about the merits of those decisions) we all have to do what we feel works best for us.
I've a fair bit to drop until I might feel better about my body. And I know I need to look at my fitness and get back in the pool/gym too.
Whatever you are doing to feel more comfortable in your body , I applaud you..its not easy

There are some astounding achievements that you've all got . I thought I'd tons of patience but I'm really testing it after a couple of months, losing a stone and a bit and did reach a plateau a few weeks ago
I'm bored of restricting myself, almost as if I've been doing it for years. 2 stones was my target, to become skinnier.
I'm just hating the pushback from my body, trying to stop me |

Have you tried referring/calorie cycling to get through your plateaus. I discovered it by accident. I realised that having a carby day or two seemed to reset my weight loss. I had to suck up the fluid gain but all of a sudden I would drop weight a week later so when I’m losing now I always factor in a refeed day every 7-10 days. That involves planning in a day of maintenance level calories but the extra calories are always carbs. |

Thanks for the tips
I thought it was going to be like hitting a wall but the last couple of weeks I've been progressing, thank goodness. A major relief and hoping it continues. I think I've been doing something similar to your proposal and also feeling comfortable, not having to be 100% nonstop. I'm being more attentive but struggling a little with my planning.
Part of my issue has been how quickly I've lost so much weight and I would probably have been better if it has been very gradual. Our bodies fight back, without encouragement |

A bariatric surgeon told me our bodies will fight us every step of the way to get back to its set weight and it takes at least 6 months for a body to adjust to a new set point so no one should beat themselves up against weight gain. The truth of the matter is that people who have never been fat don’t have better will power they don’t have to think about it. |

"People are saying they feel great after losing 3 stone, i wish i felt great, i feel crap
In what way?
"
Feel generally ill, very tired, weak, headaches, constant ear infections, a constant chest infection plus i'm struggling with my asthma.
I eat well, i ate well before but ate more before. I've lost it over 15 months so it's not a diet change that's the problem. |

I would go and see your GP as it could be some underlying problem. |

Some really inspiring stuff here!
I lost about 4.5 stone over a year back in 2013 after getting to around 20st (sponsored for local charity) and that was great but then slowly crept up again - then had a great physical job from 2016 to 2023 which helped immensely sweating it out and lost more again
However since redundancy, divorce and now single life the dadbod has returned! Trying my best with walking everyday to get decent step count in but need to concentrate on eating side of it now and binge eat and that…any help or advice appreciated |

Did a Dry January this year, dropped from 18 1/2 stone to just under 16st in just 5 weeks - I`ve always been a bit of a drinker...
That, combined with the fast 800 diet, seemed to do the trick, and it`s stayed off so far, too! |

If any fellas is in any doubt about losing weight, think of it this way:
If you want to make it look like you have an impressive pecker but you were only every going to be genetically meah and average, lose the gut. As soon as you lose the flab above your pelvic bone, whatever you have will be fully on show. If the flab is folding down over the little fella.......well......it'll always look like a little fella.
Skip the penis pumps, magic potions and devices devices, dodgy ads online, scam promises and little pills, lose some of the weight and reclaim your length and gain all the benefits of better energy levels too. |

Not sure if it's true but someone suggested on here a while back for every 2 stone you lose, you gain an inch on your dick (or at least it looks that way). |
