Might just need a bit of lubrication (pull it up and out, give it a good wipe, a bit of wd40 spray maybe, push it back in and see what happens) or time for a new one  |

It's the same thing with soft-close shitter lids - they're great for the first 6 months or so, but the bolts start to loosen. With no way to properly tighten them, they usually give up the ghost completely and come down with a "smash" then you least expect them. |

Mine too, and it's on my long to-do list for this weekend.
Mine usually starts banging shut because something is coming loose, or because the rubber grommets have moved or broken. They're really easy to take apart and either straighten and tighten, or put on a new set. |
