Even Jonathan Porritt, a literal aristocrat is in their ranks, along with a lad who's father runs a billion pound plus Super Yacht insurance company.

Unfortunately we have more than a few of these prats here in Devon. The most over privileged folks you'd ever have the misfortune to meet. No doubt now the weather is improving it'll soon be 'party protest' season again. Wankers.

There are lots of concerts and events in the summer to keep everyone busy. I noticed an increase since the riots many years ago. Or is that just a coincidence?

Some people want to be part of something bigger than them. It makes them feel connected and gives them purpose. Good on them for doing what they think is right. Knowledge is power. Protests can inconvenience some of us, however, we live in a country that prides itself on free speech (mostly) and the right to protest (mostly). Plus many other freedoms that our government tells us other countries don't have. Especially the ones we've invaded or helped to invade. Or the ones where we've created a refugee crisis.

We are stronger together. It's the filthy rich vs everyone else.

Interesting presumption about the just stop oil people. I wonder what people will be saying about them in 20 years when most of southern Europe has the climate of North Africa and all those people who can’t grow food in their countries of origin are moving to cooler parts of the world such as Northern Europe? As a worker on a North Sea oil rig, those ill-informed zealots are a nightmare. I know now how the miners felt when their industry was disbanded for no good reason - giving the job to the Chinese or Austrailians and having to ship it back here from the other side of the world. We drill the safest, cleanest Wells (along with the Norwegians) in comparison to anywhere else in the world. It's simply an act of gross self harm to be giving up on our Wells when the Norwegians are extracting it from the same basin and making a hell of a lot of tax for the benefit of their people. We're constantly pushing these unicorn replacement "green" jobs. Please people, do not believe they exist in anywhere near the numbers to replace the thousands of jobs being lost. It really is an easy thing to believe as they've sold the lie for so long, but a wind farm needs a very, very small amount of people to maintain it. To build it they buy all the components from other countries, so there's no jobs for us at that point either. Then the government pay the companies to turn them off, and charge us all huge levies on our bills to fund them. Its the very definition of insanity.

Logic isn't your strong point eh? The two statements "without the woman's suffrage movement we wouldn't have some of the rights that exist today" and "Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houtis have a bad record on human rights" are not contradictory - they can both be true.

Similarly "Hamas are a terrorist organisation guilty of horrific crimes" and "snippers having competitions to shoot children collecting food, using starvation as a weapon and deliberately targeting hospitals and journalists are all war crimes" are two different statements that are not contradictory so can both be true.

How about these two, read then through and see if you can spot how they can both be true at the same time "The regime in Iran has committed many human rights abuses and the people of Iran are suffering as a result" and "starting a war without understanding the inevitable effects, without a plan, any form of strategy or anything in place to quickly replace the regime with a functioning government so the entire country doesn't descend into sectarian violence costing tens of thousands of lives and global economic instability is not only illegal but monumentally fucking stupid"

One of the most obvious signs of intelligence in a person is the ability to recognise nuance and understand when the veracity of one statement or position does and doesn't affect the veracity of another.

It does seem that my generation and older have rather stuffed the younger generations, so not surprised they protest (free milk at break time, free school meals, no tuition fees at Uni, maintenance grant from the govt, ability to claim housing benefit and the dole during the holidays, cheaper house prices and mortgages [other than on Black Wednesday when it went up to 15% for less than 24 hours], NHS dentist on tap, final salary pensions, triple lock)

I’ve never really understood the level of hostility towards them. Their core demand is simply that governments are held accountable on climate commitments, specifically stopping the expansion of new fossil fuel projects.

I get that their tactics are disruptive, but purely passive protest tends to be ignored. Historically, most major social changes, from civil rights to women’s suffrage, have involved some level of disruption.

Whether people agree with their methods or not, the attention they generate is clearly the point and it does work.

Did the government not pass an emergency law making it a criminal offence to block carriageways

As a frequent user of motorways in particular m1 m25 m40 m2 and various others yes I was held up numerous occasions by these gobshites

I noticed an awful lot of police presence on bridges for few weeks after the protests seemed to stop

There was also a fella who started a protest about the free loft insulation too who he and a few of his crank mates glued themselves to a motorway

The ironic picture that made the national rags was them holding up 2 loft insulation vans

The worst thing about that was it was a initiative run by government for over 10 years which he missed the deadline by a cpl of weeks and his campaign was based on his lack to act within a 10 year period! Absolute gobshite

"I’ve never really understood the level of hostility towards them.

Whether people agree with their methods or not, the attention they generate is clearly the point and it does work."

You’ve obviously never sat on the M25 for 6 hours because of them.

No sympathy for them and they’ve tainted whatever cause with their shit selfish entitled behaviour.

Successive governments have cost us way more. The 2008 financial crisis, Brexit, COVID, invading countries, and everything in between. Lots of bad decisions, money mismanagement, waste of resources, lack of adequate planning etc.

Article from the Telegraph & Independent (Jan 2026)

'The majority of young people in the UK are in favour of turning the country into a dictatorship, according to the results of a new survey that say Gen Z are simultaneously the “most authoritarian and liberal generation”. More than half (52 percent) of Gen Z – those aged between 13 and 27 – think the UK would be a better place if a strong leader “who does not have to bother with parliament and elections” was in charge.'

What do you reckon? A leader who walks on eggshells with every decision to get re-elected, or a leader who answers to no-one and makes sweeping changes with one stroke of a pen?

They don’t need jobs, they have the trust funds to keep them in orange powder.
