"It means I was young, stupid and doesn't mean a thing"
But for me it does! No matter how disastrous you see it now, at that point in your life you had the will to permanently have that in your body! |

"I only have a couple with meaning. The rest are just because I liked them and the ones to come are the same "
But this is exactly my point! They all do in a strange way… at the point in your life you decided to go under the needle, it meant something! |

I have some absolutely tragic tattoos from my youth, but I wouldn’t cover them they’re part of me, the ones I got when I was older, more sensible and able to afford a quality artist are more personal and meaningful. All my tattoos have memories attached to them for whatever reasons |

I suppose your right. I chose to have them because I liked them. What I mean is they don't have a personal deep meaning. Apart from two I have all the others are art that at that point in time I personally liked. |

One big ones a phoenix which obviously links to rebirth, new starts, etc. that was meaningful to me but not one specific thing more of a change of lifestyle.
Other two were just because I fancied them |

When I got mine, tattoos were a genuine counter culture. The mainstream public assumed you were an ex Con,ex Navy,Hells Angel or just bad news. Some pubs wouldn't serve you, shop security followed you round,Police would stop you in the street and start asking questions,Police would pull you over if you were driving and saw your ink, especially in Summer with a T Shirt,Customs/Immigration would stop you at the Airport. Now it seems everyone has them, think they are the first to have them and think they have done something unusual, different and crazy. The real counter culture now is not to have any ink. |

Or we could just think theyre cool and want some. I certainly wasn't making a statement. I think that culture now is "inclusive acceptance" rather that always needing to have sides

Mine says: "I'm about to turn 50 - fuck it, I'll get my first tattoo". I've had an accompanying one since, and am looking into getting another.
The tattooist who did the work on them is a huge fan of a film my husband was in, and has offered to do a tattoo of him from the film for free, should I want it! I'm interested in getting a lifelike one of him, and am seriously considering taking the guy up on his offer. |

"Would you tattoo to record a negative experience?
Wouldn't that constant reminder cause you trouble in processing it and moving forward?"
I have...to remind me of the strength and resilience it took to make it through that time |

It’s all personal, that’s the point, I know people that have had them to ‘get over’ something negative, also people that have used it as part of a longer healing process, and others that try not to mark the occasion with anything that will make them remember it.
I have a friend that incorporated a big scar into their piece, it wasn’t to deny the scar, but to enhance it, embrace…. |

Every piece but 1 of mine is custom to me so all hold something of meaning.
The one that load shave is a little beatherder tattoo I had done about 15 years ago.
I have had some cover ups but love everything I have now |

I love other people's ink, it's interesting to hear the stories behind them
I love mine, quite boring but both mark big Birthdays I've had. The one on my wrist signified seeing my favourite band since Childhood and being front centre stage for my 50th
Not much to some but means the world to me |

I’d agree that each piece marks a moment in my life. Some are questionable and meaningless….but they still make me smile, reminding me of the carefree excitement of getting them. My most recent one means more as it’s a small nod to my parents. |

" I never said you were 'making a statement'.I was pointing out the difference between a time when you were one year old and now.A time of tattoos you didn't experience. |

I don't hate that question, considering many getting ink d*unk or they eventually regret as they went to a bad tattooist who gave them anything out of their books straight away. Nice to have a story for ink. Mine all have meaning and took ages to decide upon and design. I look now and still enjoy everything. |
