Ah no...not good?

BYDs look really nice.

Be strange to go all electric but hopefully will be the right call.

Thanks pal

Very honest and fair point of view.

I had a Kia for 10 years and up until the last year or 2, it was great.

Only got this one on lease for 3 years so hopefully enough time to make a decision whether electric was the right call.

I wasn't meant to delete that 😂 kept getting nudged by a cow and hit delete, all i wanted to do was clean up the spelling and add a bit I missed so it made sense, so heres what I wanted to put.

"I know people who've had omoda cars with no problem and people who've had loads. The tech is brill which theres no denying, but i think its just luck on build quality.

Style and tech wise I like them, some bits feel cheap, but I guess thats what keeps the price down but there decent comfort and road comfort is decent. Im not a fan of EVs, id rather petrol or diesel, but I think thats just down to the fact I can fix them myself where as EVs arent as straight forward.

Mind people gave hyundai and kia a hard time when they come to the UK market but look at them recently, theyve got really good and massively improved. So they may have teething problems but there still a new brand amd have potential to improve"

100% this. I sometimes hanker over an old V8, but an EV is so much better for actually driving. I mean, how often do you actually go to a closed road mountain pass?

And the bonus of never having to visit a petrol station again is sheer joy.

I went to the dark side and got a Hyundai Kona Electric in January.

I do NOT miss the fuel bills..especially at the moment!

It takes a bit more planning if I'm going any long distances but once you get to know where the high speed Chargers are it's great.

I have a home charger so just plug in at night when I need to.

Happy driving! Just remember pedestrians can't hear you 🙄

Haha yeah good point about the pesky pedestrians!!!

My last car was a petrol Kona so I felt like I was filling up at the garage every second day!

I love that I have an app that allows me to heat the car on cold mornings. No more defrosting the car before I can drive..and a nice warm seat too!

It's the small things that make me happy!

The total cost of ownership matters, surely ? I guess if you do a large amount of local miles, a low spec EV can save you money. For me diesel hybrid. 4Wd Duster looks the best deal , 8 yrs warranty on the self charging battery, economical and highly practical for just £25K investment

Yes. And some new EVs cost more, but it’s equalising (they’re all expensive!).

Salary sacrifice schemes often help with an EV, which means there are a lot of very nice two or three year old EVs on the market.

No I tried to return to dealer bc one of the fuel injectors didn't work 24 hrs later. They refused to take it back. I got it diagnosed and it was faulty. Its going through an ombudsman now. It wasn't driven for almost 9 months. In the end I had to fork out to get it fixed because my old car finally died (I'm just relieved I still had that in the changeover). I bought it last July. The ombudsman is STILL looking into it. It's cost me a lot in investigations, fixing. Then there was the insuring of it when it wasn’t even being driven etc :/

I have to drive it now (since March), not ideal as it weakens my ombudsman case, but I have no choice. It's ok now. I'm just annoyed I have never bought a diesel ever and am now driving one just in time for massive diesel price hikes

Sorry yours is going wrong too.

I sold it on Tuesday ready for the arrival of my new one.

It's been the last year when things have just needed fixing and I found myself spending more and more on it. It's gone now though and it gave me a good 10 years.

Sorry to hear about the issues you're having...hopefully the Ombudsman will rule in your favour!!

That's a good run though. I had my old one for 15 years. Sad to see it go. I know I'll never again have such a simple, cheap and reliable car

Good luck with the new one!

I had an EV as a courtesy car whilst mine was in for repair

It did make me re-think my longer term options

I have two major issues though

I am hefty on miles - 20k+ per year

I have no facility for home charging

So I'm not convinced they are for me just yet

Very tempted by EV, Tesla have some very good deals particularly. But I’m not fully convinced for this reason.

A couple of weeks ago my daughter asked me to pop over to her place at short notice, a 60 mile round trip. My 13 yo Jag was low on diesel, but in less than 15 mins I was fuelled up and on my way. So my questions are…

EV owners, how would you manage that scenario if you don’t have access to a rapid charging point.

And Plug-in owners, are you charging every time you get back home?

I have a home charger and make sure that my car is always @ 80% or more..so it's always ready to go.

I have a day/night tariff so make sure l charge at night when the rate is lower.

A modern EV should handle a 60 mile trip even on a low charge of say 30%. In Britain the charging infrastructure is reasonably good. And in that situation you would probably only need to charge for 10 minutes at a fast Charger.

But like IrishC said keeping it topped up at around 80% overnight is the ideal scenario. I think of it like this. Every morning you have a full tank and you don't have to stop anywhere for juice.

Right now it's a double bonus to have an EV in Ireland as the pumps are running dry with the protest.

Stoke area

Have fun with your new car. I have been driving EV for 6 years. Just got my new Hyundai Ioniq6 a month ago. ( 3 year lease)

Love the ambient lighting. My son was scrolling through to decide what colour to have. It glows brighter the faster you drive!

So many safety features though, beeping if you drive at 32mph, tries to steer you from changing lane on the motorway. Its a pain to cancel these things every single journey.

But the range is great. I rarely have to use public chargers as most round trips are less than 300 miles.

Anyway . Have fun. If you need advise on zapmap, using Tesla chargers , best energy suppliers etc pm me.
