Sausage sandwich dilemma
Jump to: Newest in thread
When making a bacon and sausage sandwich I intensely dislike the fact that we have to choose either slicing the sausage lengthways which makes it stay in the sandwich better while eating but reduces the volume of sausage in the sandwich by half or putting them in whole but having them slide out every bastard bite
Adding sauce also makes this worse
That my rant for today

"Why don't you just chuck them in whole, and grip the sarnie like you're about to have a furious wank thus reducing the chance of rogue sausage chaos."
Mayo dripping out the end to complete the effect. |

Risk of the sauce going everywhere with that much pressure |

See you’re going wrong with the bread. You need a long baguette. Preferably one you can bung in the oven to warm through so it is nice and crispy but not tooth breaking.
Then slice you sausage length ways and stack them along, throw in your bacon, add your sauce and enjoy. |

"Slice the sausage then double stack it. Job done.
2nd layer at 90° to the first though
Obvs. No sausage first timer here
Just clarifying for the OP. Cant have sausage trauma problems going on"
Well if he grips it like a furious wank and it leaks red sauce he’s gonna have trauma. |

"i hate to say it but th Scottish are way aheard in sorting this issue with the lorne SQUARE sausage
How does that work if I want it in a round bread roll?
Madness."
And what do Scottish men refer their cocks as being like if their sausages are square? |

"Fab fact, there is nothing worse than a diminished sausage.
More importantly, ketchup or brown sauce, OP? "
'Have to disagree that "...there's nothing worse than a diminished sausage".

This, especially if you turn the top stack over because then they fit nicely in the grooves of the bottom stack and create a flat surface top and bottom. |

"Greggs don't cut their sausages in half. Have had a sausage slip out the roll and cover my lap in brown sauce. Not a good luck when you pull up to a customer"
Gotta choose your sauce with accidents and excuses in mind, whether brown, red or mayo.. |

Could someone not make bread with a rivet/gully baked into it to cradle the sausage?
Also, it appears you’re maybe just eating sausages for the shape, more than the taste? |

"Be less unkind to pigs - Make an egg and bacon sandwich instead, and if you really want to make a mess of your shirt include sliced tomatoes!"
How is that less unkind to pigs lol? Some sausages are only about 20% pig 🤢 |

I'm probably going to regret asking this but why is bacon kinder to pigs? |

"A lightly toasted ciabatta usually works well - it seems to cradle the sausage a bit more 😂"
It’s all them little holes in the bread isn’t it.
Always feel a bit underwhelmed by a ciabatta tho 🫤
Looks like bread, tastes like air. |

The ciabatta rolls are nice if you brush them with butter and toast them - they stay squashy on the inside but have a sturdy outer shell 😂 |

Better solution keep the sausage whole so it stays nice and juicy and put it in a baguette with bacon.

That's why this works best in a crusty roll can even bang an egg on top or some mushrooms or onions more room for filling |

"Use flat sausage
Minimise sausage slippage , also leads to less likely sausage free or minimal sausage mouthfuls !
Your welcome
Enjoy 😎
A flat pork sausage. Is that what they call…bacon? "
Errrrr
🤔
I hadn’t considered that potential flaw
Nor had I considered that bacon and sausage is potentially just bacon and bacon , like pigs in blankets .
The balance in my diet has been disrupted 😂 |

Don’t use slicks in the wet. Lightly toast the contact side of each bread slice, like you would with a burger bun. Increased grippage, even through sauce. No more aquaplaning. Thick sliced bread to ensure it doesn’t break up. |

Take a slice of bread, lay on the bacon in 1 even layer.add sauce, place when sausage at one end, roll up like swiss roll.
For a round roll, cut groves into bottom of roll to hold sausage in place. |

We have a plastic auger, roughly the same gauge as a sausage. You drill it into your hot dog roll creating a hole, apply sauce of choosing then slide the sausage in.
Certain sausages slide in better than others.
I’m sure that would have sounded better with Nigella saying it.
This does not solve the round bread roll conundrum though.
Dang it.

I use seeded bread, do you not cut the sausages or add any butter or margarine, as not keeping it for later, bit of reggae sauce and off I go. Love the challenge of holding them still in the bread. Adds to the moment |

Todays experiments
Method used - slice sausage and lay 2 layers 1 at 90 degree angle to the other
Also tried red sauce instead of brown
Pleased to report the stacking method was a rousing success, the sandwich could be held with one hand the whole time never having to resort to the usual 2 handed method to keep the sausages from sliding out
Undecided on the sauce, it tasted a lot better than I thought it would but the experiment was hampered due to having to use a crust for one of the slices, will try again Tomorrow with 2 ordinary slices so it’s fair comparison.
Had a banana, 2 bags of crisps and a pint of milk with the sandwich. Also ate 3 bags of crisps while waiting for it to cook

Willies is usually used for Scottish mens cocks. On another note try getting a banger to stay in a bagel. Mx 😈 |

Some of you are animals. Hot sauce on a sausage sarnie for example. 🤯
Great work OP, we thank you for your diligent research. |

Christ, this reminds me of something my local branch of Tesco used to sell over 20 years ago. It was in the chilled/lunch/meal section, and was called a "Sausage & Egg Wedge".
It was a very large, thick triangular sandwich, with egg mayonnaise and slices of sausage and a little ketchup for spice. Absolute heaven, and you never needed more than one! |

🤣🤣 Sadly, we must sacrifice girth for ease of packing; Length ways cuts it is then 🙁 (Unless of course, we throw in multiple uncut sausages and experience a majorly bulging, structurally unsound sarny) 😜👍🏻 |
