Sausage sandwich dilemma

Jump to: Newest in thread

By *utsacker OP   Man 2 days ago

north east

When making a bacon and sausage sandwich I intensely dislike the fact that we have to choose either slicing the sausage lengthways which makes it stay in the sandwich better while eating but reduces the volume of sausage in the sandwich by half or putting them in whole but having them slide out every bastard bite

Adding sauce also makes this worse

That my rant for today

Why don't you just chuck them in whole, and grip the sarnie like you're about to have a furious wank thus reducing the chance of rogue sausage chaos.

See you’re going wrong with the bread. You need a long baguette. Preferably one you can bung in the oven to warm through so it is nice and crispy but not tooth breaking.

Then slice you sausage length ways and stack them along, throw in your bacon, add your sauce and enjoy.

This, especially if you turn the top stack over because then they fit nicely in the grooves of the bottom stack and create a flat surface top and bottom.

One sausage cut in half takes up same amount of space on the bread as 2 whole ones do

Use flat sausage

Minimise sausage slippage , also leads to less likely sausage free or minimal sausage mouthfuls !

The ciabatta rolls are nice if you brush them with butter and toast them - they stay squashy on the inside but have a sturdy outer shell 😂

Better solution keep the sausage whole so it stays nice and juicy and put it in a baguette with bacon.

Don’t use slicks in the wet. Lightly toast the contact side of each bread slice, like you would with a burger bun. Increased grippage, even through sauce. No more aquaplaning. Thick sliced bread to ensure it doesn’t break up.

Take a slice of bread, lay on the bacon in 1 even layer.add sauce, place when sausage at one end, roll up like swiss roll.

For a round roll, cut groves into bottom of roll to hold sausage in place.

We have a plastic auger, roughly the same gauge as a sausage. You drill it into your hot dog roll creating a hole, apply sauce of choosing then slide the sausage in.

Certain sausages slide in better than others.

I’m sure that would have sounded better with Nigella saying it.

This does not solve the round bread roll conundrum though.

Dang it.

Todays experiments

Method used - slice sausage and lay 2 layers 1 at 90 degree angle to the other

Also tried red sauce instead of brown

Pleased to report the stacking method was a rousing success, the sandwich could be held with one hand the whole time never having to resort to the usual 2 handed method to keep the sausages from sliding out

Undecided on the sauce, it tasted a lot better than I thought it would but the experiment was hampered due to having to use a crust for one of the slices, will try again Tomorrow with 2 ordinary slices so it’s fair comparison.

Had a banana, 2 bags of crisps and a pint of milk with the sandwich. Also ate 3 bags of crisps while waiting for it to cook

Never has a single thread made it easy to see the people I do / don’t want to fraternise with.

Some of you are animals. Hot sauce on a sausage sarnie for example. 🤯

Great work OP, we thank you for your diligent research.

"Todays experiments

What crisis and did they compliment the sausage sarnie red sauce combo? "

Had McCoy’s flame grilled steak and sizzling king prawn with it, the ones before were cheap lidl own brand

Very comprehensive feedback 😂 Glad the tomato sauce was better than you thought but definitely worth a repeat experiment tomorrow x

Christ, this reminds me of something my local branch of Tesco used to sell over 20 years ago. It was in the chilled/lunch/meal section, and was called a "Sausage & Egg Wedge".

It was a very large, thick triangular sandwich, with egg mayonnaise and slices of sausage and a little ketchup for spice. Absolute heaven, and you never needed more than one!

Haha it was very detailed looking back, will definitely give it another go tomorrow as dislike crusts on sandwiches but admittedly it was still very good maybe I have been wrong all this time haha x

Somewhere In The Ether…

🤣🤣 Sadly, we must sacrifice girth for ease of packing; Length ways cuts it is then 🙁 (Unless of course, we throw in multiple uncut sausages and experience a majorly bulging, structurally unsound sarny) 😜👍🏻
