What are your favourite music videos and why do you like them.
Some of my favourites are:
Smalltown Boy by Bronski Beat, tells a hard hitting story and tells it well.
Sugarcube by Yo La Tengo, a comic masterpiece
Sugar Water by Cibo Matto, just amazing how they made it
The Universal by Blur, love the Clockwork Orange aesthetic |

Small town boy is a great shout. Great song too.
Outside - George Michael cos it’s a great song with a funny, confident and sexy video.
Also December Song by GM as the video is just gorgeous (as is the song).
Unsainted - Slipknot. Gothic, beautiful, great song.

Oh yeah Spike Jonze is another I like
I remember buying the Rubber Johnny DVD in HMV when I was about 15 and just being transfixed by the weirdness of Chris Cunningham.
I do feel like the art of the music video is a bit dead these days. |

Chris rea : On The Beach … cis of the colours , because of the serenity … so peaceful
Chris Rea Auberge … because it is a bit mad but kind of displays its own illusion thingy ( sorry not a great explanation
Sinead O’Connor “Nothing Compares “
Because it is so heartfelt … even if she didn’t let that tear go when she associated that line about the “flowers on the back yard” with the death of her mother… the emotion in her face is heart wrenching

Loads of great ones mentioned above.
Smack My Bitch Up - Prodigy - that twist at the end was quite the Woah! moment at the time.
Kylie’s Can’t Get You Out Of My Head isn’t a favourite as such but it showed there was still mileage in an iconic music video.
Recently I’ve loved Jamie Oliver Petrol Station by CMAT.

" My favourite movie gorilla is king, of the apes"

MJ had a lot of memorable videos. I think he redefined music videos as mini films and that's kind of been copied by a lot of artists. Thriller is up there. Smooth criminal, Billie Jean, Just beat it, Remember the Time, Rock my World. |

HAS to be Thriller.
Not just because of what it was but what it represented (helping black artists get more recognition on MTV).
The choreo is also just so on point. Everything about the video is perfect. I remember the hype when it came out. It was like a movie release, like an actual event - such as the shuttle launch or a royal wedding. Great times.
Also saw the new movie yesterday ‘Michael’ - loved it !!! |
