What does being average mean to you?
Do you take it as a negative?
Or is it actually a positive?
I think theres a lot of positives to being average a recent discussion suggested that being average was positively freeing and meant they had no airs and graces and didnt feel they had to live up to peoples higher expectations of them. |

Well, to me everyone has to be average at some things, some people are more some people are less which is how we get to the average. But in that, everyone is above average at stuff, you just need to know what that is and be proud of it. There’s nothing wrong with it at all |

I'm fairly average in most ways, above average in some, below average in others. But where I differ from average is what makes me unique. Same for everyone, we're all mostly average but unique at the same time. |

I don't see it as a negative at all.
We live in a world now where people think they need to outshine the next person in something or other.
Most of us are average and there's no shame in it. |

I used to think of myself as average because I got decent exam results but not at the top end and I was able to play a few sports but never at a level where I got picked for a team or competition.
I felt I was average looking because my friends got all the girls and I was always the middle man.
When I joined fab I decided I wasn't going to call myself average ever again so when it came to physical description I chose athletic rather than average even though I can't run the length of myself |

I do struggle with this. I should know better, being a parent who tries to tell his child to not do this, but I do compare myself to others terribly sometimes.
I am the definition of ‘average’ - not quite six foot, medium in clothing, regular sized feet, and, ahem, nicely-sized- but-definitely-not-*massive* down there. And I think about this a lot, a lot more than any man my age should! I’ve never had any complaints either, but one part of your brain knows you’re absolutely ok, the other just tells you otherwise…
On the good days, I tell remind myself I work hard to be average - gym, diet, exercise. On the bad days….well. |

I don't consider myself average, not my mindset.
However if your not strong minded, the women on this site could certainly make some men feel less than average which is a shame.
Average will also be down to interpretation.
One persons defintion of average is another persons definition of success. |

I consider myself average in every respect, always have. But I don’t regard it as a negative thing.
At school I was an inbetweener, got average grades and never excelled at any subject.
At work I have never set the world alight, achieving average results for average money.
I’m cleverer than some but less clever than others. I’m not good at art or music, very average at sport, and have no particular talent in any area.
Same on fab - I do better than some, not so good as others.
But a big part of all that will be because I put in average effort with everything, so what do I expect?! And that’s because I’m content with being average and have never strived to excel at anything. Of course I want a better life, but the life I have is evidence of how much I want it.
I’m just me. |

I don't take it as a negative at all. There's something comforting in being average and keeping a steady flow of life stuff and I imagine it's less stressful than having the constant ups and downs.
I'd consider myself average in that respect. Just contently flowing along the happy medium of life. |

There's a bell curve for pretty much everything I expect and I do feel that if you're an outlier you are vulnerable to being singled out. And with human nature being what it is that scrutiny is more likely to be negative than positive because folk do like a target to aim at.
So I take comfort under the cover of fellow middling mean mode median average folk.
It's definitely a much calmer and less pressured way to live your life. |

I don't aspire for many things in my life. I plod on and get by. I'm average. I'm average height (ish) and average build. My daily routine isn't spectacular; it's repetitive which concedes me to feeling average. I'm pretty average overall. |

Most people are average in most things. I just try to cultivate myself in ways that satisfy me.
It's part and parcel of life - I'm not judging anyone except those who can literally buy time and convenience, but fail to be above average. |

I relate average to what is considered normal. I think because of sports, entertainment and social media, including relationship discussions, average has become a negative word.
I don't see it that way. It's good to be average. Not everyone can be exceptional. If the majority of people could run 100m in 9.58 seconds (or whatever the record is), then that would be average. Averages change based on what is considered normal, and above or below that threshold.
Like others have already said, I'm average in some areas, above average in others, and below average in some. That's life for all of us. I'm ok with that. |

Everyone is average in some way shape or form. In how they look or what they are capable of. But everyone is also above average in something else.
I wouldn’t take it as an insult.
Everybody sees people in different ways.
We are all above average in something in life |

I am glad that someone has mentioned mean, median and mode
Three different definitions of average
Also a mention for the bell curve - the hottest curve there is

"I doubt that anyone who replies on this thread is average, more than likely above average in one way or another.
We’re all special after all."
I'd better cotribute something decidedly below average then.
M'eh 🤷♂️ |

I suppose it depends on who's making the assessment. If it's yourself, you may be underestimating or overestimating. Others may think what they want to and base their estimation on that. If you're comparing yourself against others, as we tend to do, the estimation may differ depending on how high or low you regard them. |
