Tips for sleeping in the heat

I hope I haven’t created a duplicate thread here. For those of you who manage to sleep well in this heat or have discovered little strategies, please share your tips with those of us who can’t!

If you have an attic, open the hatch. Makes it cooler upstairs.
Fill a hot water bottle up and put it in the freezer
Then sit up and watch TV all night as it's still too warm. |

Close the windows and curtains during the day. Open them after sunset. Brings the temperature down (this advice applies in the UK, where temperatures drop quickly at night).
Wear natural fibres, if anything, and use natural fibres in your bedding. Artificial textiles trap heat. I'm sleeping under a cotton sheet, no duvet right now.
Use a fan. Wicks moisture through the movement of air, which is the purpose of sweating.
Accept that you might need to nap. |

Back when I was a kid, uphill both ways in the blazing snow etc, eventually the exhaustion gets to you and you sleep anyway. But that's when the heat lasts months. |

I can't help you op as I struggle myself,I just lay on top of the bed with my window wide open I live in a bungalow so have to pull the blind down so that blocks alot of the cool air from coming in  |

I sleep anyway.
In this heat :
I live in a house that is shaded by trees and ivy
I have wall sized French doors at the rear.
I have a roof window which I open to allow the hot air to rise as the cooler air sweeps through
I leave my bedroom windows open through the evening.
I sleep naked or in a liquorice strap camisole ( cotton )
I have lightweight bedding in Summer
On unbearable muggy evenings I use a fan or air purifier to move the air and wear ear plugs to protect my ears from screeching gulls
I have a blue silk eyemask to keep out the early morning light.
I hydrate early on or all day long with Evian and vital minerals.
I eat cooling foods before bedtime |

radio tuned to a talk station or audiobook with little or no music.
you place the radio in furthest corner of the room at a volume that you can just hear it where you sleep but at a volume where you are just struggling too understand the words.
you are forcing your ears and brain to work because it has to work out what is being said so it concentrates and works harder to listen.
this in turn uses up energy and because your brain is working hard you will eventually drop off to sleep.
doesnt work the first time, with most this is something you need to develop. |

Create a breeze , drink water , and get some electrolytes in your system, and an old trick I was taught and does work is keep your feet cold !! Water bottle or something , we used to use run our socks in the sea !!
Unfortunately it's a mind set !! As soon as you get used to it , it's cold again !! |

It's not perfect but it keeps you cooler than normal bedding. (I'm sure other brands are available)

Thanks everyone. A couple of years ago I actually bought myself a ‘Therapur’ mattress which (supposedly) has a layer of cooling gel as a mattress topper, keeping one cool at night.
I can definitely feel the difference on a normal night, but a warm night is enough to reveal it is marketing hyperbole. Oh well, one has to try.

When I lived in Australia during the summer it was common to experience night temps of 30-40°C, add to the fact I'd been welding all day in outside temps of around 45-50°+ didn't help. Of course the houses have air-con which is a godsend but to send me to sleep I'd put on my lawn reticulation and close my eyes, the sound of water spraying my grass and flowers had me dreaming of rainy nights in England 🏴. You probably got to live it to understand 🙃 |

As Swing says, natural fabrics are best. Ditch artificial bedding. I use cotton only. I read that highest thread count could be worse for evaporation than lower and help to trap heat. But I still use 400+ thread count.
Immersion in cold baths is good to reduce body temperature, including the head.
I've not done this but heard that a damp fabric over you may cool you
Keep bedroom door shut when hot, to retain cooler temperature |
