What motivates you to workout?

Jump to: Newest in thread

By *hagTonight OP   Man 2 weeks ago

From the land of haribos.

What motivates me to workout is seeing the results I get from the training.

It would be interesting to see what motivates you to workout?

At 50 years old it’s just about staying as healthy as I can be, look reasonably good when I take my top off, and be there to watch my kids grow up without collapsing in a heap due to ill health.

Mind you, I have man flu right now and a horrible cough so the gym is taking a back step this week.

Nope, it's about mitigating the risks of falling and not being able to get up, to reduce the likelihood of broken bones if osteoporosis hits, being able to open jars and carry my shopping home when I'm crazy old cat woman. I don't care about the grey and the wrinkles, I just want to maintain my independence!

"What motivates me to workout is seeing the results I get from the training.

It would be interesting to see what motivates you to workout? "

In a few years I'll be forty and middle aged.

I don't want to be complaining about my size, my aching creaking joints, starting threads about sad things to do with my low self image - I want to be happy, fit and healthy and strong. And also drain a man without a single drop of sweat leaving my brow.

I believe there is a crazy high number of people in care homes because they no longer have the strength to get up off the toilet. Imagine losing your independence because you lost muscle in your legs. I don't want to be that person so I train now for my future self

Practicality (fitting in clothes that need me to maintain a certain weight and shape)

Enjoyment

Flexibility

Strength

Health

And last but not least, probably chasing my 22 year old self, who didn't have a wobble on her, had bags of stamina and the flexibility of an elastic band. I know it’s unrealistic but hey ho…….

To try looking and feeling like I go to the gym. To have something to actually do in the evenings. To feel stronger.

At this age on natural supplements it’s incredibly slow progress.

It’s unfortunate that the social group in the gym consists of attractive, athletic women talking to the guys who are using gear.

The other social group is 17-21 year old loud mouth guys. So socially it isn’t great.

But after a really good session feeling like the hulk walking out the door is great! As long as I don’t walk past a mirror that is haha

Honestly nothing, I have tried everything, thinking about prolonging my life for my kids.

The feeling I used to get from running.

Being able to buy cheaper clothes in smaller sizes.

Not even thinking about how many more women would be interested if I was fitter, or how much better in bed I would be with more stamina motivates me to workout.

All I feel right now is that I got out of bed at 5 am, I’ve done a full day at work, and I’m not even sure that my joints are able to take a workout, I honestly feel like I would end up in the hospital.

Try motivating yourself with all that going on.

To try and look how I'd like to look (an ongoing mission), because I enjoy it (despite what I tell myself at times) and now because it's just a really big part of my routine. I'd be a bit lost without it I think.

I get depressed, dwell on all my fuck ups, and pretty lethargic if I don't do something every other day.

So it's mainly mental health.

Finally got organised with my diet and the fluff is slowly starting to come off.

I won't lie, it's nice after a solid cardio and full body work out to see some of the results coning through.

Like others on here, mostly mental health and fitness, but pushing to improve my physique is a great bonus.

For the hour and a half I'm in the gym each day, it's just me and the weights. All of life's stresses and problems disappear for a while.
