If I'm walking down the street and pass someone who's wearing them, presumably in recording mode, how on earth did I ask for it?

"But if they know they would be record and they ask for it"

These things make it very easy to record without consent. Yes, I know some people sometimes consent and there are other ways to record without consent. But why make it easier to violate someone?

If people want to be filmed, ok, fine, whatever. Use a recording device so it's obvious it's happening.

I see. With that logic I'll just walk down to the shops with my penis hanging out until someone tells me to put it back in. Because, you know, the onus is on the other person to tell me as opposed to me not doing it in the first place.

So you now need to inspect glasses to get people to stop recording you without your consent, rather than them just not being giant creeps?

Why is the onus on me, minding my own fucking business, and not someone who wants to record?

The use of these are very disturbing.

This specifically should be a criminal offence, and it would be really easy to make it one.

If you want to upload pictures or videos of someone publicly, either you need a signed consent form or you need to be able to defend it as in the public interest.

Otherwise, get fucked.

Yup. You might never stop the tech oligarchs, but if using these things could get you a criminal record, I bet most people would think twice. And most businesses would be reluctant to import them.

I do not consent to anybody videoing or taking pictures of me. Fab is ptetty much the extent of my social media pressence. I dont do facebook, snap, tiktoc or any other shite.

Somebody videoing me wearing them is going to be asked politely not too. If i'm with my teenage daughter, they are going to be asked slightly differently.

On a tangent as I dont know enough about them. How are the images stored? Sim card? Bluetoothed to a phone? Direct to a cloud ?

How would one get the images back ?

Realistically you'd never know if you have been recorded by them.

And as for the teenage daughter part of it... It is illegal to video minors so then that could be dealt with by the police

Cambridge dictionary, because it's free

"Harmful to society

Increasingly smoking is regarded as an antisocial habit...

Some critics argued that movies caused antisocial behaviour"

Also, riddle me this. If antisocial *only* means illegal, then why do ASBOs take behaviour that would otherwise not be illegal, and subject it to criminal penalty, which has been the cause of scholarly controversy for decades?

It also - as is a pattern in this thread - doesn't answer the argument that's been put to him, it just changes the subject.

Sounds to me like he's conceded the following:

1. Consent can mean both legally defined and what people want

2. Just because other people do it doesn't make it ok

3. Individuals doing something is not the same as businesses doing it, particularly when the latter are bound to certain laws

4. Antisocial means more than illegal

(This list may not be exhaustive)

I've used helmet cams, it is of course to pre-empt the usual "I never saw you mate" argument. We are all filmed every day by cctv and front door & traffic cams.

However none of these devices can be taken into a public toilet by a sicko following a child.

Unless your working for the FBI I dont see the imperative advantage to such covert surveillance.

As I said before if only one sicko used them to film your youngest in an private situation for later gratification are you still going to wave the banner of techno freedom? I'd certainly hope not but the nature of those with sinister minds will abuse this freedom and I should that unequal scenario present itself would act accordingly.

GoPro's are not easily concealed. They have a big handle and even if held at your side you can see them.

The problem with these glasses is that they just look like normal glasses.

There are many YouTube channels who use a GoPro in pubs and hotels doing reviews etc and have members of the public in the videos.

But the use of these glasses to record people without their knowledge are normally used for ulterior motives.

My answer to that would be who's letting adults follow kids into the toilet?

If I had a kid under 14 I'd be checking the public toilet beforehand. And they wouldn't be out of my sight in public either.

I've never understood people allowing their kids to roam miles ahead of them and not having a care in the world

I've seen quite a few YouTube channels now blur faces in the background of these, I think that should be normalised tbh.

"

The way I see it is it's just the next generation of go pro. If a gopro is positioned right you'd never see it. There is no difference to the glasses either.

Wearable cameras have been a thing for decades now

GoPro's are not easily concealed. They have a big handle and even if held at your side you can see them.

The problem with these glasses is that they just look like normal glasses.

There are many YouTube channels who use a GoPro in pubs and hotels doing reviews etc and have members of the public in the videos.

But the use of these glasses to record people without their knowledge are normally used for ulterior motives."

Yes I agree. The glasses do cause some issues for sure. But it's the whole a few people ruin it for everyone else.

Drones have that same ability. Someone could be zoomed in on you from 100s of meters above the ground and you'd have no idea

It shouldn't be possible, even under the current data protection laws IF they were actually investigated and enforced, it's been a clear no no to allow it to be possible. And yet.

Yeah I've noticed that on some as well.

I'm subscribed to few travel reviewers who do pubs, hotels and travel abroad videos.

Glasses with a built in camera that can and will record any interaction you might have throughout the day, and are discrete enough that the average person won’t notice them

I hate them

No consent or permission is required for filming or photography in a public place in the uk. On private property, permission from the owner is required.

You might not like it, but that’s the facts.

"I've used helmet cams, it is of course to pre-empt the usual "I never saw you mate" argument.

My answer to that would be who's letting adults follow kids into the toilet?

If I had a kid under 14 I'd be checking the public toilet beforehand. And they wouldn't be out of my sight in public either.

I've never understood people allowing their kids to roam miles ahead of them and not having a care in the world "

Nonce's are everywhere, teachers, hospital staff, nursery schools and every other place where the vulnerable are. Every person that deffends this is seeing it as a restriction on their freedom but should by some chance a family member be filmed inappropriately I'm sure they'd see it differently. Just because its legal don't make it morally right.

If you're a father of girls you can't go into the ladies toilets (and vice versa for mother's of boys). And once the child reaches about 6 or 7 years old then they can't really go in the opposite sexes toilets with you so this is unavoidable unless you decide never to go to a public place or make them wear nappies.

you are filmed every day.

Ring door bells

CCTV cameras in streets, on roads and EVERY time you go into a shop

Very small cameras disguised as brooches, pens etc have been available for decades - freely available online.

People use their cameras to video others all the time

It's just another camera ........ I don't like them but why the outrage about spectacles and not all the other stuff that came before ?

Really I think there should be CCTV everywhere in the school except the toilets and changing rooms.

Classrooms should have cameras in them for sure.

Anyone who defends them needs to be shown a wood chipper because they're just ones that either are too scared to act on their impulses or haven't been caught

I think that the only people that don't like being filmed in public (that's just regular filming... No pervy shit) are the ones that have something to hide or won't be acting a way they want to be filmed.

The average person just goes about their day walking down the street... The people that fight, steal, argue etc are the ones that don't want to be filmed.

The way I see it is if you don't want to be filmed you've probably done something that makes you not want to be filmed.

I have no problem being filmed going about my day, film me doing my weekly shop. I'm not doing anything that I should be ashamed of

That's a very incorrect assumption. It may be a generational thing. But it's completely false to assume anyone not wanting to be filmed by strangers has something to hide. What evidence do you have to support that argument? How often is cctv used in successful prosecutions.? Does AI not render all cctv footage used for law enforcement irrelevant.? We can debate the reasonable expectation to not be filmed without consent in public places. But there's no debate to be had about all people not wishing to be so filmed having something to hide. Unless you have some evidence to back it up.

Furthermore. We have a gdpr law to protect who has our personal information, for what purpose, how secure it is stored, and for how long. However we have no such protection in law for our most personal of information, the digital capture, storage and distribution of the information.

There isn't an issue with CCTV. The issue is random people filming you in the street for their own personal gain, whatever that may be.

But you're talking about 1% of users in whatever scenario there is to be had.

That same 1% will trying to film kids, women on beaches and everything in between.

I'd like to think that a man would step in if there is a woman that can clearly be seen uncomfortable. Also she can walk away
