Favourite Album
Jump to: Newest in thread
Hi everyone, Inspired by the Rock Music thread that's running at the moment, I thought I would pose the question What's Your Favourite Album... and why?
I've got a few albums that I really like, and two in particular that are favourites.
---Bonjovi's Slipery When Wet---
This album was a huge factor in my journey into becoming a musician. It's filled with hit songs and great album tracks. There's no track that you could describe as "A Filler", and I firmly believe that any track would have achieved chart success if it had been released as a single.
--- Alice Cooper's TRASH ---
I bought this album because I really loved the track Poison, but the entire album soon became a firm favourite. Although it's filled with hits, the Album in it's entirety is a work of art. There are loads of great songs, but it's the way it flows through the track list that really got me hooked... this is the one album that I will always try to listen through in track order.

Pink Floyd - The Wall I remember watching the film and desperately wanting the album. I had to wait for my birthday then played it endlessly.
Chris Rea - Dancing With Strangers I loved one album track and in those days there were no streaming sites. I bought the album and loved it ever since.
Lastly
Propaganda- A secret Wish as a heavy metal fan I only listened to rock music but one day at a girlfriend house she played the album (she was heavily into German art house music and scene) and I loved every single track immediately.
Looking forward to this thread as I love new recommendations. |

I'm more a various artist greatest hits fellow.
Though younger I remember being able to listen to a few albums start to finish without interruption.
Fugees - the score
WuTang - 36 chambers
Beasty boys - hello nasty
One day I'll probably listen to 'Darkside of the moon' by pink Floyd whilst simultaneously watching 'the wizard of Oz', just to see if the rumours are true |

Arctic Monkeys - Whatever people say I am, that’s what I’m not
Great memories, was on the hype train and saw them live when it was all new. No skips on this one. |

A favourite? No chance, I can tell you a few that I love and there will be even more I’ve forgotten.
Dear Catastrophe Waitress - Belle and Sebastian
Different Class - Pulp
A Grand Don’t Come For Free - The Streets
Thunder, Lightning, Strike - The Go! Team
Tapestry - Carole King |

Manic Street Preachers - Holy Bible. The best lyrics you will ever ever hear set to music, on an album which returns more nuance on each listening. It didn’t get the appreciation it deserved on release but now recognised by music critics as a masterpiece and probably among the best albums ever. |

Dead Can Dance - "The Serpents Egg"
A difficult call, given that "Within the Realm of a Dying Sun" and "Aion" are similarly transcendetal. But this album contains "The Host of Seraphim" and "Severance", which are my two favourite DCD songs. There is no finer album more worthy of the terms "cathedral of sound" and "timeless". This is the creativity of a peerlessly creative band at its peak.

Prince of the Deep Water by The Blessing
Hardly anybody has heard of them and they bombed in the early 90s, I still love this album and enjoyed their second (and last), Locusts and Wild Honey.
Look at reviews online and you'll see I'm not alone. |

The Joshua Tree
I was 13 when this album came out and the first I’d bought. Their Elland Road gig was my first concert I’d been to and have been a huge U2 fan since. Still listen to this in full quite often |

I can still listen to the whole album without skipping a track even now"
One of the best ever!
I’ll add Cyndi Lauper, She’s So Unusual |

What a difficult question!
After much soul-searching, I have a few I couldn't live without:
The Beatles - Revolver and Rubber Soul
Jimi Hendrix - Band Of Gypsies
Jackson Browne - For Everyman
Joni Mitchell - Blue and Court And Spark
Blondie - Parallel Lines
Human League - Dare
Rickie Lee Jones - Rickie Lee Jones and Pirates
Radiohead - OK Computer
and many, many more....

Far too many for me to pick an outright fave. What is the criteria?! I couldn't pick a top five! ...all depends on mood, memories, time, activity (just call me 'Rob Gordon')
But, I have said before so will say again; Holst's 'the Planets', if I had to listen to only one album for the rest of my life, would be the one. |

Can't nail down to one, but music for me invokes memories and emotions that I feel I can still link to today when listening to them.
Marillion - Brave (an emotional rollercoaster)
NiN - The Fragile (obsessed with this album when it was released)
Rush - Exit Stage Left (1st LP I bought with my own pocket money)
Pink Floyd - DSOTM (they had me at Hello) |

George Michael Faith
Soundtrack to the first Arcane League of Gentlemen film
Skunk Anansie Stoosh. what a voice!!

The Beatles - Revolver (doesn't get any better. Just incredible)
The Whip - X Marks Destination (for personal reasons rather than it's quality. Very good though and I fancied the female drummer!)
The Smiths - Strangeways Here We Come (Marr majesty)

I think it was Brian Eno (I didn’t cheat, honest)!
My big loves are other genres (soul, jazz, classical etc), but my favourite album is:
Hejira - Joni Mitchell
Amazing, atmospheric songs about travel and escape. Her wonderful lyrics and the imagery they create are a true joy. |

There are but three perfect albums that are all killer/no filler:
The Band, eponymous second album (the brown one). Every song is perfect, there's no arguing it.
The Beatles, Revolver. As above although the talents are more diverse. From McCartney cloying sweetness to Lennon psychedelia to Harrison mysticism. All at that 1966 peak where pop became rock and before it got up itself, they're still three minute songs.
Television, Marquee Moon. One of only two albums (Velvet Underground banana album being the other) where next to nobody bought it but everyone who did formed a band. If that's not the best tribute to your creativity I can't think of a better one. |

Never mind the Bollocks here's the Sex Pistols.
First heard it in late 1977 or early 78.
Set me on the path to punk rock, made me the person I am today and I even made a living from off it.
I can literally say Punk Rock was the best thing that happened to me, led me to find my wife 38 years ago, it paid for my house, cars n still making a living from it and I owe it to the first time I heard the album and discovered the punk rock attitude. |

It's amazing the power that music has to inspire & motivate... I think it was a combination of Elvis films & Bat Outta Hell that stirred my desire to make music.

Like everyone else- far too tricky to just pick one
Portishead- Dummy
Prodigy- Fat of the land
Stone Roses- self titled (although you need the American release, which gives you Elephant Stone and Fools Gold- Then delete don’t stop and Elizabeth my dear when you digitise it, as they were obviously too stoned to put anything decent in those slots)
The Family CAt- Tell em we’re surfin (spanking gorgeous indie rock, should that be your thing)
Pete Namlook- Air 1
Vibrations of the Sun- Am in fading fast or flashing like lightning
Siouxsie & The Banshees- Peepshow
Could probably find half a dozen more if I had time |
