No matter how long you work for employers,no matter how well you think you are well in with the bosses whether you shag their wife, you are just a number.
And to become management most are their to because they have been shit in original role and hard to sack them.

I kind of disagree with this. I didn't really keep in touch with anyone after school but I have two sets of friends from different workplaces who I keep in touch with and meet up with quite regularly which I'm genuinely grateful for. |

To use a military analogy, getting to the 'What ho chaps, follow me' requires training, logistics, care for wellbeing, trust (both ways) and a number of other qualities.
There is a non zero number of shitty military leaders that took a bullet or blade in the back. |

I would argue that a big % is actually a mix of networking and making sure your hard work is seen by the right people. |

I think both are true. Extensive Networking and events are often not worth the investment, through my career I attended hundreds, and spoke at a few, I picked up a few small contracts and built my reputation, but the key moves / contracts were always by personal connections & being in the right place at the right time. Mixing friendships and business always gives the best results. |

never do more than is required.
never go looking for extra work you will only get more then those who should be doing it will slow down and more will come your way.
be disagreeable. you dont have to be rude just say no, and say it often they will soon come to realise what the answer will be.
if you work hard in a role or department you make a rod for your back because if you go for another job in that company you may well be the best candidate but you wont get it because your cell/team leader will say your too valuable where you are and the job will go to a sicknote lazy type.
dont say to much about your life outside work.
watch people, gossips, learn to fed them false information so when they spread it you know who cannot be trusted.
when approached about the lie by management deny it and tell them that this person is always stiring the potm they know that and do nothing about it.
if you are ever turned down for a payrise/review, turned down for promotions leave. never accpet a counter offer because they will treat you even worse and the extra money will make it harder for you to quit.
HR is not your friend. they are there to defend the company and care little about you.
never report bullying, you will be seen as the troublemaker, deal with the person yourself in your own time.
word will then get around work and everone will be on guard and treat you with respect because they dont want to be next.

I meant within a company. No point slaving away unless it is recognised by the right people. Never trust your supervisor to highlight your efforts and not steal the credit. |

I once called my boss far worse than that. At length. Luckily I was in the military and couldn't be sacked. I did get posted the next week though.
However, my assessment proved correct. He was removed from post as a Warrant Officer for being shit.

Your efforts are seen & rewarded by your manager. And of course they also take the credit for making and managing good hires like you. You have to learn to work best within the structure you are in at any one time, or move if they are not good, if you’re working hard impress your bosses bosses bosses then the company is broken |

That employment is not worth the money that is earnt from employment or the countless days of my life i spend in employment but i'll continue to be employed because im one of the millions that provide tax for people abroad and ill starve if i don't. The end. |

That I work to live and not live to work. We are all dispensable and a week after you leave your current job you will be forgotten. Also, work colleagues aren't friends, they are simply people you got put with to do a job. I am not usually this cynical  |

Some people are just twats. You can't control that but you can control how you react or deal with them.
However urgent something is, it'll still be there tomorrow morning.
Whoever is making the most noise about being busy is probably actually the least busy.
Coffee is important, don't mess with it.
Most people are inherently selfish, don't judge them by the standards you apply to yourself.

You work for government not for your family where - 21.1 percent of your taxes go towards welfare of others. And teaches you to start your own business even if it is selling doughnuts in B&Q car park. Biz is the only way to save and make money in this country - rest everything else is basically working for Government not for you or for your family |

Pass the buck, you are always a number, you are only as good as your last mistake, they can survive without you, you get paid the same as the dosser beside you, just as much thought of you as the other co workers regardless of what you do. IT'S A JOB, you work to live not live to work. |
