It always amazes me when people feel the need to spew their hatred of football, which is enjoyed by billions.

I'll be interested to see how many anti cricket threads are posted when the Ashes is on, or rugby threads bashing the 6 nations, or the golf haters during The Masters.

Negativity is not an attractive human trait, yet many display it to attack others who like a particular thing.

You missed what the thread was saying....hands up if you hate football??

I agree it's a joke that some people earn stupid money and I do think it's not right. However...as a game, you have to like it...it can be played anywhere and with a soda can if needed. It keeps kids hungry for success, the desire to score a goal and be celebrated and fit... certainly before iPads and the like... Do you really hate football??🤔

From my observation of television owners, most of them will watch almost anything which is broadcast, sport or otherwise.

Politicians, as well as sports people thrive on knowing that they have an audience.

I am confident that if someone started streaming woodlouse racing direct from Crawley, it would soon become addictive viewing amongst the sofa classes!

I’ve no personal interest in football, though I’m glad others enjoy it.

.

My only reservation is that it can sometimes feel like a modern form of “bread and circuses” — a powerful outlet for passion, money, and attention that could, at least in part, be channelled into projects that strengthen communities in more lasting ways.

.

The level of energy people invest in football is extraordinary. If even a fraction of that same passion, organisation, and funding were redirected toward community improvement, the long-term social benefit could be immense.

.

In an ideal world, both could coexist — entertainment and civic investment — but money, time, and attention are finite resources. Every large investment in one area inevitably means less available elsewhere.

.

That said, I do recognise that some clubs support meaningful local initiatives, and that is worth acknowledging.

Hate football…

Hate it..

Men’s football in the main.

Bunch of Prima-Donna pansies, with no respect for the ref or the rules.

Throwing themselves on the floor with drama for make believe injuries..

Taking months off at obscene full pay for a sprained eyelash, or damage to their man bun..

toxic game that sets a really bad precedent to youngsters who watch.

Rugby is the total opposite.

Football is 90 minutes of pretending you’re hurt.

Rugby is 80 minutes of pretending you’re NOT hurt.

"Why do rugby fans feel the need to spew bile and hatred of other sports?

Not spewing bile.

Personally, hate it, yes.

Virtually all other sports, full of admiration, even women’s football..

when you watch a football match, you see everything that’s wrong with today. Especially with how they act.

Admittedly, there are some good eggs amongst them that act responsibly but 99% are idiots.

And don’t get me started on how the ‘fans’ are and the need for so much policing..

Look at a rugby match, where opposing fans are sat together, usually drinking and are all civilised.. hardly any police needed.!

Nonsense, I'm so sick of this holier than thou attitude that some rugby fans have. Football has a much larger audience which means not everyone gets into the stadium and as larger crowds gather, of course it will need more policing

Footballers move at higher speeds and while some do make a meal of things, do expect them to just get kicked without getting fouls? They don't get given unless they go down which is on the referees and even the skillful players get hacked down a lot more which result in longer term injury issues.

If you're going to hate something, at least educate yourself on it than go off the same tired stereotypes 🙄

It really is pathetic. They know hardly anyone cares about rugby outside, so they keep bringing up football because it's the only way anyone pays attention. They're always banging on about footballers diving or being divas, but if they hate it that much, why are they constantly watching it and talking about it? For people who claim they can't stand football, they seem obsessed with it lmao

Hazing is such an archaic and toxic phenomenon. I'd love to say it's dying out but sadly still happens... Womens teams are even worse for it. As for rugby v football. Im a rugby nut. And there are some great things about it, the sport, the culture, the environment, and there are some really rubbish bits. We do some things really well and others not so well. I also like football, and football does some things really well and others not so well. It's ok to say (some) footballers roll around, go and watch and under 7s game and already they are diving. And it's crap and it's not good. Swearing at the ref isn't good. And it's not OK to excuse it with, "its ok they are just passionate it's part of the game". Football head injury culture is terrible for player welfare. Rugbys is generally better but far from perfect. There are some great rugby games but the vast majority are turgid and unwatchable unless you're an ex player. Football can be played anytime anywhere... Jumpers for goal posts and apart from handball and offside rules is easy to follow and enjoy. In most cases the abuse of one v the other is from people who have no great knowledge of either.

I don't hate football. I'm fairly ambivalent about it, but I won't watch England matches.

It's bad enough getting disappointed by one man at a time, so I'm not going to let 11 of them all disappoint me at the same time!

Oh dear… I appear to have touched a nerve. 😂

The reason rugby fans know about football is that it’s forced upon you at every turn.

Unlike rugby.

I do feel sorry for the national football team though, as soon as a world event happens, the press and fans pile loads of pressure on the team and expect they’ve already won..

if they don’t, they’ve always had the game ‘taken from them’.. not allowed to use the real world 🙄

Football fans do tend to show a violent defence of some indefensible parts of a game that in the whole promotes cheating under the banner of ‘tactics’..

Bloodgate…

Admittedly that was bloody stupid..

but that’s one thing..

let’s remember the World Cup titles and multiple six nations wins.

I wasn't saying you were wrong (please don't hit me) but lots of threads have comments that don't align with the thread premise. One of the World Cup threads is littered with people saying they don't watch football because they think it's shit.

I like football. I don't care if others don't but I do like to challenge some of the sweeping generalisations that some people make about it. Arguing about what's better between any given sport is a bit daft. Unless, we're talking about snooker, darts and F1, obviously. Two of those are pub games and the other is just blokes driving about.
