What are your fears, what are you afraid of?

Is it getting caught, is it spiders or is it the fear of failure?

For a bonus - Can you help advise other people on theirs?

So not worried about going to prison for a crime that you may have committed?

I have 2 fears having heavily looked in to them. Fear of falling and fear of death. Both we are born with.

Other fears are developed and in theory can be overcome.

Totally get the crime one. Certain crimes, even to be accused of these days, people go nuts on social media etc with absolutely zero evidence sometimes. Must be awful for the innocent

The only real thing for me is heights. When I’m hiking I normally like to keep a nice solid 20 feet back from any serious drops, and people who sit on the edge dangling their feet massively stress me out! My heart rate is up just thinking about it 😂

not far from

I’ve sat with a few people as their time came, and through it all, their fear of death has stayed with me. It lingers because it is not only their fear, but a fear that seems to reach across all of us. There is a mystery in what comes next, and not knowing can feel like standing at a door that will not open until it must.

Sometimes faith brings comfort, giving shape to the unknown and easing the ache of parting. Other times, comfort comes from something quieter: the knowledge that a life, however brief, was real and meaningful. That it touched others. That it changed the air around it. And even if those memories soften with time, they do not vanish all at once. They live on in gestures, habits, stories, and the small ways people carry one another forward.

There is sorrow in that fading, but also mercy.

Always had an irrational fear of wasps. Probably due to being stung so many times by them when younger and it hurting.

A fear of death is something when I was a child, if I thought about it at night even for a second it would consume my mind and really upset me. Luckily that hasn’t happened in about 25 years.

Not so much the idea of death, that is awful in itself but it’s if it was sudden, like a heart attack or falling down something. That fear of not knowing what will happen without you, I never text that person, I gave an appointment tomorrow, work will wonder where I am, how long will it take for my family to find out, I never finished working on my garden, I will never see my nieces or nephews again, I didn’t say goodbye…

Even conversations on fab! People may wonder why you just stopped talking to them one day and they will never know that you aren’t even alive

I fear riding a motorcycle and occasionally being a passenger on one. I aim to always be at least 2 stupid mistakes away from death so I think it's a rational fear.

For a bonus ,if you're scared of heights, try cliff jumping , you can start really low, it works, it worked for me.

So I hesitated in writing this but I think it’s important.

I have cPTSD. My brain has been rewired due to this. Fight, flight or freeze is a huge problem. Certain things can trigger these responses.

My fear is being triggered at an inopportune moment. One time in particular, I have had a massive panic attack and reaction whilst riding my motorbike. This took me hours to comedown from. I was stuck on the side of the road until I was safe enough to ride again.

Being trapped.

Emotionally, or physically.

I am always have nightmares of being trapped somewhere, I leave my home, car, wherever and then I am trapped and unable to return to safety.

This goes for RL situations too.

Always need to know the exit. I hate lifts!

Lancashire, Cumbria and Scotland

Neglected Victorian and NeoGothic architecture and landscaping. Especially in quiet, non-urban areas.

Not fear-inducing, but certainly unsettling.

Growing up in the North of England the old Follies, crumbling mills, abandoned mansions, and great industrial works, found in the forgotten corners of Pennine valleys, found their way into my imagination. Blackened by time. Original use and beauty obscured by neglect. Still imposing but silently seething in the peripheral vision of modern indifference. Insidious and impossible to destroy. Irrationally daunting.

My heart-rate increased when I considered writing this.

But I'm more perturbed if I ever take a momentary rest when swimming in open water, and I chance to look downwards, and can't see my feet treading the water below.... Then I take Dory's advice. "Keep on Swimming, swimming ..."

So, for the bonus point offered by OP. I deal with it by not dealing with it. I treat any proto-phobia with the same cognitively-dissonant behaviour as Dory. It's fine, keep swimming, enjoy the anxiety. If it's irrational, it will go away. If it becomes a danger, then enjoy the adrenaline.

we are about 5 years from robot police that will be able to track you and follow you when a crime has been committed. they will access databases so have all the information and will wait in the last known area for you and call in back up.

if you think this is too far fetched then google will be surprising you soon enough. they have contracts to produce what they call 'public assistants' so increasing the numbers of law enforcement and reducing the need for man power to be present all the time.

in places like the US they can be armed.
