England vs Argentina
Jump to: Newest in thread
I dunno, I've watched every Argentina game and yes whilst they can and do attack with pace and class, they can be very vulnerable at the back and do concede soft goals working on the principle that if they concede they'll just have to score.
Oddly I'd rather be playing them than Switzerland that would be another Norway style game.
Look we've got this far and I genuinely think we can do it.
However Spain or France in the final a very different game. |

Totally agree. This Argentina side is beatable, as Egypt (and, to a lesser extent, Cape Verde) showed. I we will have a better chance if Mr Kane remembers to turn up
As long as the officials play to the laws of the game, we will make the Final. |

Expect it to be close but England & Argentina are the 3rd & 4th best teams left in the tournament imo so whoever wins this I’d have as underdogs in the final anyway, but it’s cup football so anything is possible at this stage.

"I have a headache after a late night last night! Anyone else the same?
So, but I've just noticed a really bad cut on my arm.
No idea how I've done that "
If you were truly patriotic you'd put another one across it at right angles |

If anyone can stop the lads getting complacent it's Tuchel. His post match interview was something I've never seen before, acknowledging we got the result but completely understanding they still need to get a lot better and gel as a team more, play up to all that potential, in order to keep going. |

Argentina have struggled at times so far, similar to England. I think it's probably an evenly matched game but we'll just edge it. Then lose to either France or Spain in the final as they are the two best teams in the world by far. |

Just A Stranger In A Strange Land. |
I don’t think Argentina are what they were, plus the remaining games are all in domes with a/c so the heat is not going to be such a factor.
I’m optimistic of getting to the final, if we do and it’s Spain I think we have a chance, if we do and it’s France, that’s going to be difficult. |

Just watched the Argentina v Switzerland highlights.
Argentina are still dodgy at the back, huge holes to exploit.
The Swiss red card changed the game.
Absolute stunning goal from Alvarez, but Messi was quite quiet, apart from a deadly corner he took.
I think we can easily score against them, but you can't deny their attacking prowess. |

That second yellow for a dive was wild 😮 Looks like Switzerland had the momentum as well. |

They did. It was all Swiss attack in the second half leading up to the red card.
It was a crazy dive, no idea why he did it. It was in the middle of the pitch 🤦 |

Here's a thought. Javier Milei will undoubtedly apply some pressure to his buddy Trump to apply pressure to his bumchum Infantino to make sure Argentina get a shoo-in.
Then we slaughter them 4-1, and the Belgians all become England supporters.
It's coming home |

Argentina haven't overly impressed and the draw couldn't have been kinder for them but the conditions endured last night, the injuries and Quansah's harsh extra game ban might just do for us. |

I felt our problem yesterday was Declan Rice. He is a huge player for us, but his influence is very understated and I do not think his impact is fully understood.
When he is not there doing his job, we immediately look like a weaker team. He makes the interceptions, marshalling, closing down of space and tackling look easy. On top of that, he manages the game brilliantly and supports the attack.
Against Argentina, Rice naturally occupies many of the same spaces that Messi looks to exploit, so it could be a fascinating battle between them, provided Rice is fit.
England will look much more solid with him in the side. With a fully fit Rice, yesterday's match would have looked much better for England.
He is up there with Kane and Bellingham in terms of his importance to England.
As an Arsenal fan, I fully understand how Rice gets overlooked. Because his timing, anticipation and positioning makes it look like he's just doing the basics. But he's just constantly reading the game brilliantly and being in the right spot to do his job well. |

"I think the odds are in our favour but not massively. Argentina aren’t what they were.
They are basically team Messi. "
And just like the Americans he turns up randomly at the last minute but is nowhere to be seen for most of it. |

His tactical awareness and ability to read the game reminds me of Paul Scholes.
Rice is a class player |

But he tackles a lot better 🤣 always loved watching Scholes but his timing on tackles was always a bit iffy lol |

Love to see England beat them,
Unfortunately I can't see it England looked tired last night, and Harry lane was a no show.
Don't get me wrong, England are a good side, but they are going to have to bring their A game to beat the Argiees |

I actually disagree.
England struggle to breakdown teams who sit deep, but when a team comes at them like Croatia and Mexico did, they open them up and get goals. Argentina won't sit back and they're vulnerable in defence.
It'll be an exciting game regardless!

oh come on, don't kid yourselves. though i'd love to see england win it's been set up for a france - argentina final from the start. france will win to crown new champions, messi will be given another career achievement award in the golden boot to wave him bye bye. then next world cup you'll have the same - france lose in the final (fifa will say a changing of the guard) with mbappe getting stuf to wave bye bye. and don't count on any europeans winning in 8 years time if they thought this one was hot. |

Eng vs Arg does concern me, but I'm holding faith that we'll win. We're still roaring and biting after the Quansah fiasco! If we win, we'll have him back for the final 😁
Come on England! 🏴🏴🏴 |

Argentina have really flattered to deceive but they still seem to pull a bit of magic out of nowhere to get through.
I have a sneaky feeling Argentina will edge it just because our defence has looked shaky and we can't always rely on Kane and Bellingham to score. |

So how we all doing with 48hr to go?
Little titbit of psychological news… even though Argentina are nominally the “home team” for the game… they have decided to wear their away navy blue kit.. they regard it to be their lucky kit…
So England will play in their white shirts…. |

From a football perspective I always look for the positives and there is no reason why we can’t beat them.
With my conspiracy head on , England would not be a popular winner with ‘ Thiefa’.( or Scotland 😊
I’d be interested to see where the officials are from.

See… from where I stand the bad news for me is I think that England are the 3rd best team left..
the good news.. I think they they are better than the opponent on Wednesday
I absolutely believe this Argentinian back 4 can be gotten at.. especially down the wings, so we need Gordon and Saka to get at them! Romero and Martinez are walking liabilities |

Messi has never played against England. Should be interesting.
England have travelled further than Argentina and France in this tournament. So fatigue may be a factor.
The Mexico game took a lot out of the players. The altitude and the heat was intense. The Norway game was hot and humid too, according to Alan Shearer. |

I think he's joking ... but seriously i hope everyone is nice to one another and the Falklands are NOT mentioned. Many brave men died on both sides. |

I wonder whats going through David Bechams mind, psd, night sweats. Floating red cards in his nightmares, the walk of shame. His squeaky voice saying for fuck sake as he's shown a red card in nightmares. Michael Owen sneering and saying "David messed up neh neh neh neh"
World Cups and medals swirling around in his head with .
Not sure they will win.50/50.
