Do you believe in ghosts?
Jump to: Newest in thread
Not sure. I have had experiences that I can't explain but as for physically seeing one. Not sure
The Monday before she died Mum told me that she had been visited by my Dad and Stepdad telling her 'not long now, everything is ready, everyone is waiting at the party. She said, I won't be here next week. I told her to stop being so dramatic.
The Friday she called me, she was in hospital. Saturday she was on a ventilator. Sunday she was unconscious.
I went to visit her and after getting home I felt her go, it was like a lightbulb in my chest popping. I cried
On the Monday exactly a week I got the call saying that the Dr's will be removing the ventilator.
Not sure what to make of that, but by god thinking of Mum at her party with those she loved got me through it

I've never seen one but my mum and her 2 brothers swore that they had seen one when visiting their grandparents in the country back in the late 1940s.
In the mid 1980s I was delivering equipment to a well known and historical pub in Belfast city centre.
A member of staff was helping me carry it upstairs and halfway up he screamed and dropped his end before running off into the lounge.
I couldn't move from where I was and had to call for help. The manager appeared and we got the equipment upstairs and went looking for the other guy.
He was cowering in a cubicle in the toilets and said that a woman in a white dress had walked out of the wall on one side and passed through the equipment we were carrying before disappearing through the wall on the other side.
He was very descriptive and obviously terrified. I had been looking directly up the stairs at that exact moment and I saw nothing at all before he screamed.
The manager told me there had been numerous sightings over the years of this woman in a white dress by staff and punters but he had never seen anything himself. |

I'm not sure, I think I do believe in something, like an energy or prescence that can continue after death.
I've often felt that someone may be with me at times, ie one of my deceased loved ones. It's hard to describe really.
I really like "there are more things in heaven and earth, that are dreamt of in your philosophy". |

Some interesting comments, especially from those who have seen them.
One of my ex's from years ago was heavily into the ghost hunting programmes. They often experienced weird goings on, but never caught a ghost on camera.
Not sure if they have since as I don't watch them anymore. |

Honest answer is... I'm not sure. Just from personal experience I'd say no. But I had a female friend when I was younger and she baffled me and made me question my beliefs on many occasions.
On time we went to a wedding and we all stayed in a hotel in Derbyshire. My friend got her key before me and made her way up to the room. Whilst I was getting my key she came hurriedly down the stairs in a fluster. "No! No way! No I can't sleep with HIM in there!" she pleaded to the manageress. The manageress just nonchalantly asked if I were bothered about ghosts and we ended up swapping rooms. The manageress said the man's ghost often 'bothered' younger women and many requested a room change. The hotel was famous locally for this.
Another time we were in Paris and enjoying doing the obligatory touristy stuff. We ended up walking across the Place de la Concorde and suddenly my friend stopped dead and was visibly shivering. She looked really upset and urgently asked if we could leave. She was so visibly scared we made our way to the Metro and onto another part of Paris. Course historian Fabbers will have already sussed that we were on the spot the guillotine stood in the French Revolution and my friend, unaware of this, explained she felt great sadness and fear and lots of people dying who were not ready to die.
Just for clarity: My friend had never been to the hotel in Derbyshire before and had no idea of its (alleged) haunting. Similarly she had never been to Paris before and although covered the French Revolution in History class as a kid she had no idea that the guillotine, that took over 1000 lives inc King Louis and Marie Antoinette was situated exactly where she was stood. Her mood changed from someone enjoying a holiday abroad in an amazing city to one of deep concern instantly.
Does she sense 'ghosts' ??? I have NO idea, but, these are just two of dozens of other similar incidents I could tell you. And I definitely witnessed them. But I cannot explain them. |

No unless you can definitively prove they are sprits of dead people.
To do this you would have to rule out every other phenomena such as bleeding from alternate or parallel realities or even sonic sounds which cause effects the brain to perceive fake visual experiences. |

I still don’t know if I believe. But once when I was on a footballing tour we were having a kick around at night with a few beers, I’d gone to fetch the ball and there was an incredibly odd feeling in the air, anyway I find the ball and I look up and all I can see is this bit of light which resembled a little girl, my gran had died not long before this tour, and the funeral was the week after, but when we were sorting our photos etc. I’d found a photo of her when she was younger, which scarily was the same pose as I’d found this bit of light that looked like a young girl on this tour. Freaks me out every time |

Don't really believe in them but had a really weird experience ,I used to work nights and walked home along a very long high wall like 8feet high every morning at 4 am usually .
And one morning it was just getting light and I heard some on walking behind me I turned and looked and saw a man walking about 20 feet behind .
Nothing untoward so far but after a while I looked back as I no longer heard footsteps and he was just gone ,
Weird I know but unless he was Spiderman and need a pee behind the wall I have zero clue where he went . |

Always surprised that there hasn't been some form of serious academic or scientific research to prove or disprove the alleged phenomenon. No doubt conspiracy theorists can easily explain why this hasn't happened. |

Once read about a theory of like a public consciousness that changes over time ,people used to see monsters everywhere in the medieval period ,then fairies /ghosts until recently and in more modern times UFOs now . |

If ghosts are former living people, but now dead - it would mean that much of our accepted understanding of the physical universe, needs to be changed.
This is similar to much or all of the paranormal claims.
I'm inclined, without good evidence existing of ghosts, to continue to believe the laws of thermodynamics, etc rather than that something doesn't fulfil them in entirety, yet continues to allegedly inhabit a planet that's spinning through space and doesn't remain in 1 place.

I've seen a few and poke to some.
My whole family is spiritual so it's a given that we're open to all that
How about you Holly? You seen any?"
Serious head on here.....
I have issue with believing in something I've not seen or there is any proof of. (This is why I don't believe in aliens.)
Humans have an inbuilt desire to keep living, not to die. That's why the afterlife is believable to some as they can't accept that death is the end of it all.
There's been an estimated 109 billion people die throughout history, so why are seeing ghosts so uncommon? With that amount you'd think we'd see them everyday.
So because there's been so few viewings it means that if there is an afterlife only a small percentage have stayed here as ghosts. Why?
None of it makes any sense to me. |

I've seen 3 UFO's (One large stationary ball of light that we thought initially was a planet and two much smaller balls of light.) meeting up on a summers evening. Then they all went their seperate ways. But ghosts, nope not seen any, so far. |

I don’t however I was in a building where everyone in the building was in the room I was in.
Outside the room a door with a returner on closed.
No one had been out the room for an hour to open it and it could not have opened on its own.
So what opened it? |

Not had a one to one conversation with a ghost personally, but I have encountered enough people who have seen them, and in other cases felt a presence in some of the houses I've handled over the years that it kinda leaves me open minded on the subject. |

I've seen a few now, my mother could see them and so could I when younger, not so much now. It gets weaker if you do not harness it apparently. She could summon them, It was her party trick. She'd call them then point to where around her they were standing and I'd take a photo using an electronic camera and there would be multiple orbs each time. Have a very interesting story about a ghost she summoned once, pm me if you'd like to know how it ended. Scared the shit out of me! 👻

Deposit having plenty of spooky experiences, I do not believe in ghosts.
There is not sufficient evidence to support the idea of spirits of the dead returning to this reality.
But there is plenty of evidence to suggest that the human mind is a fallible and easily mistaken bodily organ, with great pattern recognition. |

I once woke up in the middle of the night and saw Gloria Gaynor's ghost at the bottom of my bed. I went through a range of emotions.
First I was afraid, then I was petrified........ |

Yes, have experienced paranormal ghostly apirations.
Was at work alone and the bottom half of a black trousered legged and shoe caught my eye seem to dissappear down a dead end. A security gaurd had passed away a few years before.
Whilst driving home late I saw something ghostly in the road in my rear view mirror, gave me the shivers.
In our old house upstairs in the small box bedroom heard a very loud crack bang.
A carrom board had been flipped away from the wall at the bottom of the bed and was now leaning the opposite direction and the crack bang sound was it hitting the radiator on the adjacent wall. The board weighs alot no way did it flip off the wall on its own. That was spooky.
1993 sitting in my garden alone feeling a bit down, heard my grandma calling me by the nick she used for me. She had passed back in 1981. That really convinced me there is something to this afterlife thingy.

Yes,100%.
Have had several encounters in our house with me and the kids spotting them, once my son and myself saw and heard the something on our upstairs landing when we were in our own bedrooms.
Wife is a bit pissed off as she has never encountered anything. |

Yep , I've never seen one but have experienced some spooky and unexplained stuff in the house I grew up in, which is the same house my mum grew up in , she see a ghost of a girl on the stairs , my uncle see a different ghost of a boy walking across the landing and my younger brother see a blue figured man in our bedroom when we were kids. I just witnessed doors opening and closing , hearing people walk up and down the stairs when no one else was home and feeling that cold sweat of dread for no reason when waking up at night like someone was stood behind you staring at you -Mister |

Yep. I've not seen one, but spooky going ons were happening when the council took the dry wall down which was bordering the cemetery opposite my house. Every night at 2am for 3 weeks, the push button flush on our downstairs toilet would be pressed. I remember one night I was watching Hell House, and the living room curtains blew open. I shit my pants and ran up to bed 🤣. |
