Approximately 19% of the UK population was born outside the UK.
If that counts for first-generation migrants, imagine how big that percentage would be for the second or third generation.
Would you mind sharing where your roots come from?

Actually not 100% sure. I had an Irish great grandfather, the rest were all north eastern English. I don't know beyond that. |

If those ancestry DNA type tests are to be believed I'm mainly of Irish descent (70% plus) followed at a distance by Scots, north-west English and unspecified northern European....yet I've spent most of my life in Wales without a drop of Welsh in me!

On my mother’s side, My nan’s side was pure Welsh Valleys. My gramp was from Yorkshire.
My dad’s side - all totally Welsh Valleys.
We do have Australian distant cousins who got in touch after doing a Family Tree.

Pakistani (technically Indian). I probably have other ancestry but it's difficult to find as the data isn't available. India has been occupied by various empires and has lots of different cultural/ethnic/racial mixes. A real melting pot. |

I'm Punjabi, first generation born here on my Dad's side, second generation on my Mum's and as far as I'm aware, that's 100% my ethnicity. My sister did one of those tests which said she was pretty much exclusively from the Punjab so I assumed it was the same for me. |

I usually say I'm half-Chinese/half-English (but I prefer half-rice/half-chips 😁) but in truth it's more half-British/Irish, as my Mum got into the genealogy and it turns out our roots on this side are English, Irish, Scottish and Welsh - they came from everywhere...
Dad could never be arsed with that sort of thing, but a couple of years ago my brother and I went to the ancestral village in China, and they had the family tree there, which went back 98 generations to the year 208...BCE!! 🤯 |

I'm an immigrant from the Republic of South Africa.
On my Mom's side, I'm descended from the British 1820 Settlers, who settled the Eastern Cape, and immigrants from Australia, who came to the new Union of South Africa right after the Anglo-Boer War in the early 20th Century. They were descended from British immigrants to New South Wales in the 1830s.
On my Dad's side, my grandfather was a British soldier who settled in SA before the 1st WW. His family were from Deptford. I met his sister, who turned 100 the year I immigrated to the UK in 2004. My paternal great grandfather was an Irish immigrant to SA, and he married a Portuguese woman, making me ⅛ Portuguese.
So I'm an immigrant, descended from immigrants, some of whom emigrated from the place their forbears had immigrated to.
It all gets very muddy, very fast. No- one has the right to get snotty about immigrants. We're all human beings, delightful in our diversity; united by our common humanity. And, ultimately, we're all from Africa.

I read something fairly recently that suggested that there are actually several "original eve" mitrochonrial dna strands that are being identified that suggest that "humans" have evolved from several original strains fairly geographically dispersed?

First generation immigrant along with my parents, all born in Northern India, but you wouldn't think so if you met me.
My mother's parents lived in what's now Pakistani Punjab.
It's led to my deep interest in learning about the history of those lands where once everyone lived in peace. |

I’ve dabbled in my family tree, and done a DNA test
West Midlands for the last 300 years
I have traced (assuming i have got it right) one part of the family to before the Norman invasion. Still Mercia (Tamworth and Coventry)
Yet my family also has many emigrants around the world |

First generation Hindu Indian - but I get mixed feedback about me wherever I travel to, In Middle East -
People say I look Turkish or Persian, when I travel to latin America - they get pleasantly surprised that I cannot speak Spanish 😀. So I suspect that my DNA is mixed as I am from northern part of India which was the entry point of all the heavy invasion. |

No they conquered these lands not immigrated.
Conquer: take by force and impose own laws.
Immigrating: move peacefully and obeying the laws of the land.

Is this thread how they're going to round us all up for deportation?
I'm of very mixed European-Asian heritage. A product of empire! Parents and grandparents born abroad, but a British great-Grandfather in the mix so maybe I'll be allowed to stay once the revolution comes. |

As far as I know, my ancestral roots are all English. But as a Brummie, which is a city that grew and prospered thanks to the contributions of newcomers, I feel connected to so many other cultures and backgrounds. |

My family tale said that there was a Chinese woman somewhere in my maternal great-grandparents line.
When I go to Chinatowns around the world- I get spoken to in Mandarin/Cantonese 🤭 one time I was at a chinese grocer and I was speaking English to my then baby daughter and a woman said to me “It’s a shame you’re not speaking Chinese to your daughter…” and I said “Believe me, I would if I could!” 😂😂😂
Interested in this, my son had a DNA test done and nope, not a single trace of far east Asia/China in our DNA. There was some heavy Native American from the specific northern area in Mexico my mother was from. I am interested now in doing a test myself to see what it throws in.
According to another family tale my MATERNAL grandfather was from outside Bilbao in the Basque country but I never met him and can’t say it was true. My maiden surname ties in though  |

I came from my mums vagina. That's all I need to know.
My Dad was obsessive about family history and had a huge chart on his office dating back to the 1600's after paying stupid amounts of money to get old birth certificates sent out. But not to try and prove any kind of nationality status, just because that's how his brain worked, much like it did with his stamp/coin collecting and trying to track down endless error versions of lledo model vans. 🤦🤦
I love that people are often interested in their backgrounds.
But not when they try and use it to pretend they're in some way better than people who have come to the UK from abroad......
