Having been told yesterday it's about time I started a topic, today has brought about the chance to comply

Went for a ride this afternoon upon my velocipede after inflating the tyres to the correct pressure, but now find when I apply the brakes I get an awful squealing noise.

Is there anyone out there who could advise me on methods of curing this squeal?

If not is there anyone who would like to give me a f***

Jesus, do NOT use WD40 or ANY form of lubricant on your brakes.

That's a mental suggestion.

you've got uneven brake wear, inspect them (you may need new pads) and if they look OK, you'll need to check alignment and wear them even (ride for a while with the brake engaged slightly).

the good lands, the bad lands, the any where you may want me lands

are we talking caliper, cantilever, or hydraulic? Whatever you think about the noise, certainly do not apply wd40, 3 in 1 or any lubricant or else the squealing will be drowned out by the screams and theunavoidable crunch as you find yourself becoming an ex veloist!

file the leading edges off your brake pads or blocks

Brakes often become rusty when unused, so if they make a bit of noise initially, I wouldn't be undully worried.

If it continues get it checked professionally, thats what I would do.

I assume by velocipede you mean bicycle? The brake pads' surfaces have probably gone a bit hard over the winter. Rought them up a bit with sandpaper and they'll stop squeaking but still work.

New brake pads, or if they are new brake pads, a wee score on them seems to work. (Ms Sheets here. i used to tinker with cars in my younger days.) Check wheel alignment and balance. Also check brake fluid.
