Chapter 1

“You may now kiss the bride.” The registrar said at the front of the room.

I watched proudly from the front row as my son took his new bride in hand and they kissed to a loud cheer and applause from the rest of the congregation.

Music came on, and the happy couple excitedly turned to everyone and led the way down the middle aisle back into the hotel for the reception.

Even my now ex-wife, who had been frosty towards me ever since she came home a few years ago to find me balls deep in our neighbour’s wife, gripped my arm with pride and smiled up at me as our son walked past with his beautiful new bride.

We all headed through to the bar area, the usual milling around and small talk was being had, as various arrangements were made for photographs and other such things.

I appropriately positioned myself by the bar, sorting myself out first then putting some money behind the bar for the first few rounds of drinks for everyone. I’d already gifted the happy couple a large percentage of the wedding costs, the bride’s dad wasn’t on the scene, and she didn’t have a good relationship with her mum. They both worked hard, had professional jobs, and had never asked for anything, so I’d been more than happy to help them, and look after all our friends and family that were now there on their special day. I stayed standing at the bar chatting to friends, before being summoned outside to take my place for the photographs.

I headed out to the sweeping lawns of the hotel grounds and walked round to the patio area where photos were being taken, and took in the view of the wedding party in front of me.

My lad had certainly done well for himself, his new wife, Laura, looked stunning, she was smart and beautiful. She was tall and lithe, raven haired with piercing blue eyes, and gorgeous smooth sun kissed skin. I can’t lie, I’d often had the odd inappropriate thought and cheeky glance whenever we’d met, but always respectful. Laura looked beautiful today, her hair stylishly down, and her bridal gown, dazzling white, a cheeky off-the-shoulder number with a hip-hugging skirt revealing a flirty thigh-high front slit with each step and a small sweep train behind. Her cleavage attracting gaze, but not distracting from the sheer glamour she was exuding. My son Paul was going to be a lucky lad that night I thought.

I put my filthy thoughts to the back of my mind, and turned my attention to the bridesmaids, who themselves were commanding attention, effortlessly filling their lavish figure hugging bridesmaid dresses. I noticed the assorted groomsmen as well, standing around with their square jaws, neat hair cuts, toned physiques stretching the shirt material, swappping furtive glances with bridesmaids.

I chuckled to myself, yeah right John, I don’t think your luck is going to be in tonight. I let the photographer bark his orders and went over and took my position in the photos, before heading back in side. I caught myself in the reflection of the window, I’m not doing too bad I thought, late 50s, 6ft 4, broad shouldered muscular arms, yeah a little too much time in the sun these days, far more salt than pepper, and a well lived life had started to take its toll around the middle…I laughed again to myself, enjoy your day, forget chasing skirt, and have a good time.

Chapter 2

It was a glorious day, and everyone was enjoying themselves. I’d done the rounds, said hello to distant relatives that had made the journey, sat catching up with friends. I’d shared a couple of drinks with Paul as well, who seemed to be accepting and downing every drink somebody bought him.

“Look lad, it’s a long day, you don’t have to finish every drink someone puts in your hand, take it easy and leave the odd one on a table, listen to the voice of experience.”

I said to him trying to impart some advice.

“Don’t be soft Dad,” he laughed back at me “If you can’t handle the pace at your age.”

“Just thinking tactically son, you don’t want to be out of action before the disco starts, not at your own wedding.”

“I’m a big boy now.”

“Ok then….” I said.

The day went through the usual wedding motions, and I took my seat at the top table. Unfortunately the ex wife one side of me, fortunately a blonde bridesmaid on the other side. I can’t lie, my eyes did keep disappearing down the front of her dress, but sadly that was as far as I got, my banter wasn’t as interesting to her as her phone was or her friends two tables away that she still continued to talk to over everyone else…must be an age thing.

We had the usual speech’s, Paul, knocked his glass of wine over the table as he tried to stand up for his, thankfully avoiding Laura’s dress, but still an embarrassing incident. He was slurring his words through his speech, and seemed to get lost and rambling on a couple of occasions. I took the initiative and before he embarrassed himself further stood up for my speech thanking him for his, Laura looked across at me silently mouthing “thank you” as she awkwardly sat my son back down.

Then it was time for the dancing. I made a beeline for a stool at the side of the bar, would rather talk to friends than make a tit of myself on the floor…at least not until I’d had a few more drinks anyway.

At some point in the early evening, Laura came over and took my hand pulling me aside.

“I haven’t had chance to say much, it’s been a whirlwind of a day, but I just wanted to say thank you, thank you for making me feel part of your family and everything you do for me and Paul…” she went on, but my mind was thinking how beautiful she looked, and what a sweet young woman she had become.

“Hey, forget about it, your family now, and we look after each other alright, you ever need anything you come to me and it’ll be sorted, always going to look after ya, pair of you mean the world to me, come here.” I gave her a hug holding that slim body against me, and she reached up to give me a kiss on the cheek.

“Thank you.” She said again

“Right go on off you go, enjoy your day, and make sure Paul doesn’t over do it.” I said to her, and went back off chatting to friends.

A little while later, I heard a bit of commotion outside, Paul had fallen over on the patio and Laura was struggling to lift him back up.

I took a second to admire Laura’s plunging cleavage, before heading over to pick Paul up.

He was slurring his words at us as I put his arm round my shoulder, and hoisted him up.

“Oh god he’s in a right state” Laura said

“Yeah perhaps we best drop him off in your room for a bit to sober up.”

“Fine.” Laura said clearly exasperated at her new husband getting so wasted early in the evening.

Paul put an arm over each of us and we walked him up to the honeymoon suite. Paul collapsed on the bed, and started being sick

“Oh no,” Laura yelled.

I rolled Paul on his side and emptied a bowl of potpourri from the shelf and put the empty bowl at the side of the bed.

The room now stunk and Paul was in a deep sleep from the drink.

“Wow what a great wedding night.” Laura said

“Hey,” I said, putting my arm round her “Don’t worry about him, he’s just enjoyed himself a little too much, go on let’s head back to the party, no reason you can’t still have a good night.

Laura looked up at me and smiled.

“Yeah you’re right, I’m going go down and dance my arse off.” She cheerfully said and turned walking to the door.

I watched and stared at her figure hugging dress clinging to her peachy derrière as she shimmied towards the door.

Laura stopped and turned back to me,

“You coming?”
