For any ladies going through the menopause.. I highly recommend the Marina Coil!! I don't feel menopausal at all. No brain fog, night sweats, hot flushes are very rare.. and still very much wanting sex (just don't get it lol) It's been a life changer |

I had Ablation surgery about 18 months ago, and it's the best decision I've ever made.
My bleeds have stopped, the only trace of Menopausal symptoms is the occasional hot flush in the afternoon, but that's it.
Maybe I just got lucky on this one. |

I've been in Perimenopause since my early 30s and vaginal dryness has been one of my worst symptoms. I can't fuck at all without lube and I'm not 40 yet |

The Mirena coil will supply progesterone to your body but you will still need estrogen as well as small amounts of testosterone (this helps especially to boost libido and mitigates brain fog). Women who have undergone hysterectomies or who no longer have periods (post-menopausal) generally do not need progesterone (it works to avoid an over-thickening or build up of the uterine lining which can occur through estrogen). |

You need localised oestrogen. Creams are messy but you can use a small amount externally too. Are you on hrt? |

I asked my doctor they won't give it to me as I don't have hot flushes.
Sin e them my symptoms have worsened brain fog is worse a few more mood swings and low libido, still getting periods not every month though.
It doesn't help that my doctors don't have a .menopause specialist but he did say he can put me in contact with one if I need it |

This makes me so mad! You don't need hot flushes to get hrt. Download the Balance app, do a symptoms checker report and see a different GP. Nice guidelines are also useful too, have a Google. |

I'm peri menopausal, I find itchy skin and aching joints are the worse for me.
I also struggle even more with sleeping. I'm taking a natural supplement called peri menofriend by Dr vegan.
It definitely helps with the aches and pains and my skin isn't as dry, as they have soy isoflavones in, which mimic oestrogen. |

The itching was the worst for me also, my arms especially. The marina coil stopped all that. I take magnesium glycinate that helps tremendously with sleeping. |

I "think" I'm peri, I'm not entirely sure if the things happening is just me getting old or this.
I've had trouble sleeping for years but just lately if been having terrible nightmares (I used to get night terrors quite a bit as an adult), rash across my boobs (but not sure if it's heat related) and some others.
I have the coil so hard to track x |

Go to.your GP and explain your symptoms. There is a lot that can be done to help with the symptoms but they don't always prescribe them as they are costly.
Be persistent with your GP and if nothing changes go and see another. Davina mccoll has done a lot on tv highlighting the plight so have a look online. There is private Dr online called Dr Zoe. Meg Matthews has tweeted about her and uses her a lot for advice.
Please feel free to.message me directly if you want to talk or some advice. I'm not a Dr (in medicine) but does its do have a fair bit of knowledge on this subject. |

That coil does contain hormones the copper one doesn't but that one wouldn't help you I'm sorry to say.

I wouldn't wish a bad menopause on any one, my dryness has been so bad the pain it caused lead me to having to give up work. I couldn't do house work or shopping or anything really. I have just gone on to new estrogen tablets and need to start off once a day for a month ... Fingers crossed once they kick in I can get back to having regular sex ... If your in any doubt at all please keep badgering your GP id hate for anyone else to have to go through this. |

I'm so glad I came across this thread!
The burning ear thing? I thought I was going crazy. Its been so bad I've woken up with them. I bought a cool pad for my pillow which does help a bit.
The brain fog is horrendous. I still get a period for a couple of days, but they are so heavy. Like when they first started!
I was watching a Dr on TV who described menopause like a 2nd puberty.
Thank you all for sharing ✨️ |

It is so frustrating reading some of your posts ladies… it is always possible to have her - even after cancer - if it is managed properly. It is about mitigating risks and doing what is best big picture….
For me I suffered for 10 years without realising there was help and I hate seeing other so the same…
But the crux of it for me is that oestrogen helps to mitigate the risks of heart disease (no 1 killer of women) and osteoporosis (just plain horrible)…
Managing menopause symptoms is a juggling act and managing your doctor can be even worse, but do your research and stand your ground…!
Dr Louise Newman has an amazing podcast, I listened for hrs doing research, she is the worlds leading expert in all things menopausal and if all else fails runs a private clinic who will make recommendations to your go.
But I have found that the biggest hurdle for most women is denial - admitting you have got to ‘that age’ and overcoming the stigma of even the word menopause - after that embracing something that can help with all the horrible symptoms it can cause is the easy part 😂
As many people say, if it affected men there would be automatic treatment given to everyone - look at what has happened with viagra ffs…! Yes we are supposed to suck it up as part of getting older?!
Well no thank you…!! |

Never had any symptoms maybe coil helped.
Hot ears, only when someone speaks ill of me.
I do tend to get a soggy bottom when baking.
Never gushed but I do have excellent bladder control and function.
Miostness just takes a little longer to achieve, small amount of lube or a more experienced partner, keep away from people who think foreplay is rubbing my lady bits like they are trying to light a fire. |

An ablation would have no factor on menopuse. I've had one. I've had bloods done to check what stage I'm at for menopause. Results came back, as I'm no where near starting. So up next for the hystorectomy. Keeping my overies, so I don't go straight to menapouse. |

You need topical oestrogen like Vagifem or vagariux plus the cream. It is not like normal HRT as it doesnt enter the bloodstream, just works where you need it! Talk to your Dr and if they don’t know about it try the next one until you get one who is educated on it, took me 3 years and lots of UTI before I got told about it by chance. Don’t be fobbed off by you’re not old enough or you don’t need it. Look up Davina McCall and all those other celebs talking about it they have lead the way in this and the Docs are following |

Mrs N has been fairly lucky in that she had none of the obvious symptoms. However loss of Libido very much so and she has underactive thyroid so struggled without medication to keep her weight down.
Now more her old self but still very hard to get aroused. She does accept that though and tries very hard to enjoy a resaonbly normal naughty sex life for a 62 year old. |

"Mrs N has been fairly lucky in that she had none of the obvious symptoms. However loss of Libido very much so and she has underactive thyroid so struggled without medication to keep her weight down.
Now more her old self but still very hard to get aroused. She does accept that though and tries very hard to enjoy a resaonbly normal naughty sex life for a 62 year old.

My journey on the menopause has been hell. My relationship is wrecked because of my mood swings, my insecurities and anxiety are at an all time high and I feel so emotionally drained. Right now I have no support and I feel like that black hole has just got even darker and smaller. It's been 5 years and still no let up. |

"I've dryness and my sex drive goings from wanting to have sex and none stop wanting to play with pusay to now iam hardly ever horny."
Strange really as now that the risk of unwanted pregnancy is gone you'd think recreational sex would appeal more and the thought of good orgasms would appeal more However............. Apparently desire can return. You just have to avoid total abstinence as that can switch it off and be far far harder to rekindle the fire in your pussy.
Menapause is cruel in the way it gives with one hand but takes away with the other. |

I fought for 5 years to get a GP to listen to me about my symptoms but finally got through to them. Hot flushes, brain fog, irrational anger, anxiety and joint pains being my main ones. Started on HRT in November 2024 and doing so much better.
Be consistent and do some research to take with you and don’t give up. I tried black cohosh which was amazing but didn’t get rid of all the symptoms so I knew I needed more than that.
Don’t let them fob you off with antidepressants (NHS guidelines have changed) or blood tests (IMO completely useless). You know your body and when it’s not working properly for you.
There are a few websites you can use including www.henpicked.net which has some very useful information about menopause in the workplace.

Localised estrogen is meant to help with dryness, UTIs and other complaints within the bits, as a lack of estrogen in the tissues/cells impacts their integrity.

Curious to hear ladies experience of being on testosterone whilst also on *traditional " HRT?
I've been on it for about 6 months now and it's been a game changer. Definitely helps lift my mood and general outlook on things. Had my bloods done recently and my T level was 1.6. The average is 1.5 for a woman my age so GP wants to see me next week. Not had any other changes physically (voice, excessive hair it hair loss) so I will be sorely disappointed if she tries to take me off it! |

I know it's not a 'one size fits all' with symptoms etc...but I still find it so horrific that in 2025, the GPs are still very inconsistent with support for women going through the menopause
I am definitely one of the lucky ones who has only suffered with hot flushes for the past 4 months and after a few tests I got told I am menopausal and am now on HRT
But my fight was with numerous GPs refusing to listen that I could be menopausal as I'm 'too young'
I finally got them to listen after badgering them that 'it's not right, I know my body and I started my periods super young' so they finally started giving me tests
I have had the Merena coil and haven't had a period for 13 years
But it took 3 different appointments with 3 different GPs for them to finally agree to do said tests!
They sent me for CT scans, MRI (complete waste of NHS money and time off of work) and then they finally did blood tests. The bloods came back crystal clear = menopausal
Sending virtual hugs to all those who are suffering 🫂 |

I’ve been fighting with my GP for a nearly two years now as SHE says I am too young to be suffering with menopausal symptoms. She insisted in giving me a Merena coil but I haven’t been as lucky as you with it stopping my period, in fact since having it I’ve spent more time on than ever before.

Im on testosterone and its helped me lots also.
My levels were above average and was told to use every other day rather than every day.
Now they have dropped lots again, do im back up to using every day.
No side effects.
Being reviewed by menopause clinic in Nov but thinking of going private, as I'm not happy with my GP responses to my levels being really low again for all hormones |

Perimenopausal here. It's a joy. Not.
Aches and pains everywhere, not everyday but definitely during the week.
Electric zaps on my skin every now and again.
Brain fog, my tongue tripping up words, the hot flushes have started though still in early stages of that, itchy ears, periods heavy and irregular oh yay for that one lol
Sleepless nights, palpitations occasionally, libido is now named cotton eyed Joe, cos where did he come from and where did he fucking go ? Lol
Dry skin, I could be drenched in moisturiser and still look like elephant skin lmao.
Even vertigo/balance problems.
They bang on about the coil, but I don't want the bloody coil.
Hrt, now that is a minefield of trying to get it right, and I can't have combined hrt.
All this just to stop having eggs and periods... fml!
Only good thing is I can finally I can say before I think now lol. Can easily tell someone to do one if they are being a knob lol.

Dunno if maybe mine did run a bit higher than average as I was forgetting to apply it some days and I'm still at 1.6. Will find out next week I suppose.

I’m nearly 43 and wondering if I’m starting to be perimenopausal.
My mood changes with the wind, my ears itch like hell and my periods are lasting way too long. Is that normal?
I keep seeing a company pop up on my fb feeds called bioID. Has anyone used them? I was thinking of doing my bloods through them so everything gets checked. |

Bloods aren't generally an indication of where you are menopause-wise as your levels can change daily. Symptoms are by far the most reliable way to know - and there are dozens of symptoms.
At the age you are, it's highly likely you're in peri or are menopausal.
If you're on FB, there are various groups where you'll get loads of advice.. women going through it are your best source for information |

I know but she was YouTubeing haha and apparently it's very safe and it helps massively with texture of the skin etc.
She has noticed a big difference, doctors have said itself more than fine. Just a very small pea sized amount. |

Vaginal oestrogen seems to be working for me. Its tackled a whole range of problems i was just putting up with: UTIs, urgency and frequency issues (I can sleep through the night now) and sore labia (even toilet roll felt raw). It rebuilds the skin as well as adding moisture and elasticity.
The doctor will prescribe it daily for a short period and then ask you to go twice a week. But having done a bit of reading, this seems to be more about the cost of the cream and if you need it daily, ask for it daily.
Its felt like a game changer 🙂 |

Just a note in case anybody doesn’t know (because I was prescribed it and didn’t!) that the vaginal oestrogen cream shouldn’t be used with condoms as it can damage the latex (latex free ones obviously aren’t affected the same way).
The pessaries are fine to use. |

You seem knowledgeable...I know you have to steer clear of your partner for an hour after applying oestrogen gell to your thighs (so that the hormones don't transfer) but it doesn't seem as clear with the vaginal oestrogen. Ive read its a lower dose of hormones and if you insert it high enough the hormones will have absorbed fairly quickly and the cream that then ( i was going to type 'falls' but that would suggest ive got a bucket fanny!) moves down your vagina over the next 12-15 hours is okay for him to touch. Is that your understanding too?
Rachel 🙂 |

I'm not quite there yet with dryness but I do have to drink 3 litres of fluid a day to be properly hydrated.
I go to the sexual health clinic in person because GP basic gynaecology is crap! The lady told me to use Epaderm daily ( apart from days when having sex with condoms). I find that it killed any dryness and irritation on my labia but also is a barrier from shower gel and soap getting anywhere near my vagina.
I had to leave my job because the stress was making me ill and I had a weightlifting trainer for 8 weeks. I still weigh a lot but my body has recompositioned into more muscle. The more muscle and protein seems to be improving my symptoms.
I always use water-based lubes...simply because those go with most condoms and most silicone toys.
Good luck ladies. If all else fails, I will be buying hormones from a private pharmacy because my GP isn't listening to a thing I say. |

I started to practice CBT-insomnia
I had to stop working to reduce the stress.
I started to lift weights and do more relaxation activities such as massage, going to the nudist spa ( cheaper than a regular spa)
I already had intensive therapy to help with my mood swings as I have BPD/EUPD so that gives terrible mood swings from the time I was a teenager.
Someone recommended herbal menopause supplements but I haven't tried them yet because supplements and medication, need to be monitored by the NHS due to my severe disabling mental health.
It's trash that women have to suffer this for over a decade!! |

"Just need some advice ladies going through the menopause only wost symptom I have is vaginal dryness which lube is best and if I'm using condoms and I'm latex intolerant so I have to use latex-free ones do I still need lube or will the condoms be okay.
I miss how much I used to get wet.
If all else fails, I will be buying hormones from a private pharmacy because my GP isn't listening to a thing I say."
Im not sure that hydration/lube is the complete answer. From the reading i have done the skin in your vagina is thinner because of the loss of oestrogen. Its also dryer which means it looses elasticity. Lube will only mean its easier for someone to get inside you, it won't make it easier for your vagina to expand to accommodate a penis/fingers/toys. Whereas vaginal oestrogen puts hormones back directly where they are needed. Your skin will thicken, become more elastic and some of the self lubrication will return. 🙂 |

Its felt like a game changer 🙂
Rachel 🙂"
This is a question I've had too and can't find an answer. Its not on the info leaflet with the cream either. |

Noted in case I ever get to that stage. Currenlty my vagina still works with lube and 3 litres of liquid. I'm still in perimenopause and my hormones haven't dropped low enough for estrogen on the NHS. I can probably get estrogen privately but my employment is all up in the air as I'm so ill.
Also with my mental health, I'm more partial to holistic and alternative treatments before I turn to prescriptions. I've been on prescriptions since I was age 20. They need to be closely monitored because yup I'm the one with dodgy side effects.
I was going to take CBD and the pharmacist said With my mental health absolutely not. I won't take sleeping tablets even though I have terrible insomnia because, again pharmacists said you'll become addicted.
Some people can put just about anything in their body and be fine...
me on the other hand...can't even put in a disposable tampon now. PH disruptor...yeast...BV...etc.. |

Just be mindful that there are no alternative options that will replace the hormones you lose in menopause - HRT is the only way to replace them. Plus HRT protects your brain, your bones, so many parts of you. |

You need to get yourself on HRT and vaginal estrogen. They will help with those symptoms and indeed all symptoms. |

My regular playmates are patient and we find other things to do or I wear a sex tampon or a menstrual disc. Luckily, they are not squeamish in helping me get the sex tampon or disc out again when it's gone too far for me to reach. |

The NHS isn't listening to me so I have to find alternatives to cope. There are ways to lessen certain symptoms without HRT and those women who can't take HRT for health reasons have to use those. |

I read this book "4 Weeks to Better Sleep: How to Get a Better Night's Sleep
Book by Michael Mosley" And looked up CBT-Insomnia.
Sexually I now regularly schedule things to connect with my body and other people's, sensory, sensually and visually. Cause if I'm just at home alone, nothing sexy is going to happen.
Luckily one of my regular play partners in the poly pod is an extremely good masseur, standard vanilla rehab massage but also erotic, sensual, yoni/vulva massage. He also massages my mouth and jaw with his hands, and then I'm all relaxed orally for him to stick his cock in.
This was cheaper and easier than seeing a sex therapist. I already pay for a vanilla psychotherapist ...that's enough work on its own.
Hope that helps. |

Being autistic makes me wonder why people say they've tried everything when in actual fact they haven't tried everything. Lol!
Whenever I ask men or women specific questions about why their marriages have broken down and/or are sexless, it usually starts with some resentment long before the bedroom scene.
One guy told me that he and his wife never had any time alone. They homeschooled, taking turns, and they always went on vacation with their child. So they basically turned themselves into parents only.
I think my sibling was conceived when my parents sent me to stay with my uncle and aunt and my cousins for the entire weekend!!! There were multiple weekends for like a whole year. Lol!
My parents also spent 2 hours every day talking to each other.
I asked one of my friends if he did this and he said no one has the time anymore to do that. Communication is key and I personally don't want to shag someone who doesn't talk with me. I have little chats with my play partners via texts. We are not always with each other because we have other responsibilities and commitments but we keep the connection going and not take each other for granted.
I'm one of the only few people I know who had a marital breakdown who actually went to marriage counselling/marriage psychotherapy multiple times.
Maybe because people expect a quick fix and psychotherapy isn't. Maybe people are just too proud or embarrassed about the whole situation, so it's easier to avoid it all to the bitter end.
I don't like emotional, mental or physical pain, so if I can fix it, I'm damn well going to try and fix it and ignore my embarrassment. I know I can't fix everything by myself, which is why I let professionals step in and help me. doesn't make me less than.
Hope everyone finds solutions to their painful circumstances, whatever they are. |
