I’ve noticed my urine getting a lot darker I’m aware you should be drinking 2,3 liters of water a day but I struggle to drink 1.5

Would Electrolytes be any benefit , anyone using these daily I did read somewhere they can raise

Potassium levels.

I take them when I struggle with water intake . I use the vidrate ones. They have multi vitamin ones as well as night ones with magnesium. They don't taste as bad as some of the others I've tried

Get some celtic salt, drop a small amount in a glass of water (enough to slightly taste the salt) down the glass in the morning and repeat at dinner. Carry on with you 1.5 litres a day

There's no other animal in the world that drinks water when it doesn't feel thirsty that's why we have thirst and hunger signals. I had all sorts of funny urine colours, smells, infectious and couldn't hold it for 5 minutes until I started carnivore and only on carnivore can everyone safely eat and drink intuitively and be healthy

Darker urine sounds like dehydration. Your fluid intake can come from food and liquids and you'll typically need more in hotter weather. Most of us consume too much sodium chloride, so be careful of salt intake.

couple, us we him her.

You can't replicate the bodies need to rehydrate,if you need to drink water then drink more water.

However taking electrolytes isn't bad if you:

Have been unwell.

Taking part in exercise and been sweating and need to replace lots electrolytes through sweating.

Been drinking excessively as alcohol is a natural diuretic and forces fluids out of system same as caffeine.

As a former amateur endurance athlete I used and still doing summer and during long hikes.

SIS electrolyte sugar free tablets dissolve in water and drink or sip throughout the day or night, you can make your own by adding a small amount of salt to a sweet drink but it tastes disgusting.

There's many other products available.

Caution is important as to much sodium as we know is bad for you .

We need approximately 3ltrs of water a day but shit, it's difficult particularly if you are mobile with your job and don't have access to facilities or a job with poor or no welfare facilities.

Our bodies can only absorb so much at a time anyway so excessive amounts will just slosh around in belly anyway.

If you eat well you will get all mineral salts from

Your diet, then you just need to drink water.

If you lack the mineral salts that you need for the absorption of fluid then have an electrolyte drink but then return back to drinking water after that.

If you continually drink electrolytes it can have the opposite effect and cause your body to draw fluid back into your gut making you feel horrifically bloated and dehydrated.

Not sure I understand the question. Adding electrolytes to 1.5 litres of water won't turn it into 3 litres of water. Is the question what can you add to water so you can drink more if it? Or what can you add to the low volume of water to make it have the effect of a larger volume of water?

The volume of water required is subjective to your body weight! I take electrolytes most days, but I train and sweat intensively most days. Like others, I'll take one if I've had a few social drinks. It helps recovery for the day after.

You can do a sweat test (no exercise required) to confirm what strength tablets would best suit you. Look for "precision fuel and hydration", they're in UK and Ireland & have test centres in both. No affiliation by the way, just a handy way to get what you specifically need!

OP - rather than trying to find a fix, why don’t you focus on the reason you can’t drink enough in the first place?

If your urine is dark then that’s basically your body telling you you need to drink more. The only real solution is to drink more. Anything else is just a plaster on the main problem.

"Would Electrolytes be any benefit , anyone using these daily I did read somewhere they can raise

No.

The colour in your urine is the excess minerals and stuff that the body is getting rid of. So by just adding more electrolytes and drinking the same amount of water, you'll make your urine darker, if anything.

If you want to make it lighter, drink more water. Only take supplements if you have a deficiency.

For most people taking supplements the only effect will be getting a deficiency - of money.

Welcome! As others have mentioned, it won't fix your issue if it's solely dehydration. On the other hand, if you drink too much water, you will dilute your mineral balance.. it's a fine line!

Best of luck

It's been standard teaching about the diuretic effect of coffee and tea but for most people who regularly consume it, scientific research suggests that a cup of two no longer has a diuretic effect - it would just be in those who don't typically consume it. Quite a lot of studies have been done.

Note that your thirst reflex decreases as you age so suck it up and get your 2 litres a day. It aint that hard. Hospital doctors have been reporting for years that a significant percentage of over 60s that are admitted are de-hydrated.....

Celtic sea salt is full of other minerals including a lot of magnesium so it's much less salty than the pure sodium chloride table salt, I only use Celtic sea salt and I give it to my horses daily too but I put it on food I've never put it in water

Your urine is getting darker because you’re not drinking. You need to drink and eat some fruits and you’ll have all the electrolytes you need, without paying for supplements.

In short: man up and drink more. And if you need medical advice speak to a doctor, not to a bunch of perverts on a swinging site!

The diuretic effect of caffeine is negligible. Therefore a cup of tea counts as fluid intake.

You state you find it difficult to take on water.

Why?

What is it that stops you having a few sips of water every now and then.

Do you have water with meals.

What about fruit drinks etc.

It's not like you have to drink gallons of the stuff.

If you're not lactose intolerant drinking milk is just as good as any isotonic drink and probably costs less. I drink it when I'm dehydrated.
