I just thought he was on holiday when he wasn’t on this morning. I listen to him everyday on the way to work with the easiest quiz - I think if it’s a personal matter and nothing to do with work and it’s nothing illegal by law, then he shouldn’t be sacked. But they will not say what his done but what ever it was, must be pretty significant because his been sacked with immediate effect.
I just honestly cannot see him doing anything or saying anything so bad - looks like we never actually know anyone in this world. 🌎 |

Many contracts - especially for those individuals in public or high profile roles will have a clause that gives the employer the right to terminate if the employee does something that would bring the employer into disrepute, even if that's by association.
Whether that's right or not, is down to opinion, but it's why most 'celebs' who do potentially unpalatable things get sacked. |

"It will be a sex or a drugs thing. Possibly both. We've all been there.
I've never been sacked from the Radio 2 breakfast show 😥
Well now’s your chance, they have a vacancy "

"Not sure what he’s done, but I hope somebody keeps an eye on him/his mental health, because he LOVED his job. I also find it odd that there has been no investigation, just instant dismissal. "
I find it odd too.
Instant dismissal without an investigation is drastic and leaves the BBC open to possible litigation. Either someone at the top is trigger happy or they have some cast iron evidence. |

"Bring back Liza Tarbuck !
YES!!!!!! Her and Rylan were the best thing about Saturday afternoons on the radio 2. Love her eccentricity."
Her recent departure was also a little mysterious although no suggestion of any wrong doing. |

They'll have run it by their legal team all ends up, whatever it was or is possibly to yet come out..
They were rightly castigated over Edwards and others for not acting sooner so I can only imagine its something they are exceptionally fine with legally.. |

This trial by media thing has gone too far.
The alleged offences took place between 1997 and 2000 when Mills was in his early twenties. That the other person was a teenager does not mean that they were underage.
Mills was interviewed under police caution in 2018 and a file was sent to the CPS who decided that there was insufficient evidence to proceed with a prosecution.
Now he’s been sacked and the cynic in me suspects that the other person has taken the tabloid shilling and sold his story a quarter of a century later. |

Police have now confirmed that the other person was under 16.

An employer can terminate a contract for lots of reasons and in this case lack of a criminal conviction may be irrelevant. After their history of abusive employees I'd imagine the BBC have tightened up all new contracts to cover a range of behaviour which might bring the Beeb into disrepute. |

This..
Disclosure of such an event might be a factor, yes he wasn't charged and remains an innocent man in relation to that but if he didnt disclose it given the nature of his job etc which might be a part of the contrasts such people have and if theres a 'would you like to comment' request from a tabloid pending a story etc then and especially given the mess over Edwards then they are in a position of damned by some if we do but slaughtered by many more if we dont.. |

A new BBC Director General was appointed 6 days ago so I guess they have been doing some Personnel file digging and got rid of any potential liability. Whether they were aware back then of what went on I don’t know, but I think they are covering their arse.

"The BBC does seem to attract these people, doesn't it. "
21,500 people work for them, without getting into a top trumps type debate on such a subject other organisations also arent immune to such things..

Yes, the most likely cause is that Mills didn't fully inform the BBC of historic allegations. Its been reported the DG at the time of the criminal investigation was unaware. |

"Curious that at the time there wasn't enough evidence to proceed with an enquiry, yet there is now. "
I don't think there's any further evidence. Or that the police are further investigating (unless I missed something).

Stopped listening to the R2 Breakfast slot when he took over
Would be very happy for Liza Tarbuck to wake me up in a morning |

So on the face of it he's been sacked over something he was accused of but never found guilty of? |

Serious sexual offences spanning decades.
The lure of young flesh.
Power, money, fame, all the ingredients for a shitstorm.
Close the BBC before it gets worse.
There's probably more going back over the last Century.
Members of the public and vulnerable staff victims are pilling up. |

Yes, if you follow the logic, the BBC have decided the evidence is there to find him guilty when the CPS thought there wasn't. Though I guess there's a different test - bringing the corporation into disrepute, even if not found guilty in court? Feels like this story has more to come
By the way, this is no defence of Scott Mills - I've long thought he's a dickhead.

Probably not. Breach of contract could cover many things outside of criminal conviction. |

Wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, had hoped there had been some sensationalism in the headlines - 18 and 19-year-olds are technically teenagers - but it seems to be emerging in the details being released today that the lad was under 16 😬

Is there ?
I've not heard or read of any fresh evidence or of the case going for trial.
I heard that someone made ALLEGATIONS.
Time is gonna tell Sally ... time is gonna tell but poor old Mills will be finished. |

But this is modern society now. I in no way am victim blaming but whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? It simply doesnt exist anymore. Sad but true. |
