Am I a shitty person ? You decide.

Fab forum folk, normally I would not encourage judging, but today I do.

The scenario

Been out for a walk, get some steps in. As I passed a group of old persons bungalows I see an elderly couple in a car, the chap is attempting to parallel park in quite a tight spot outside their bungalow.

Stuck waiting for parking to complete is a chap in a 75 plate Tesla, who is getting more and more agitated as the parking manoeuvres continue. To the point where after beeping his horn and scaring the old folk he radgies his way past barely leaving enough room for a “ wafer thin mint”. Between the 2 cars.

However in doing so he kerbs the fuck out of both drivers side alloys, I mean he ruins them. And I absolutely pissed myself laughing at him. It was instinctive, no thought whatsoever I just laughed.

So ladies and gentlemen of the forum jury. Was that a justified reaction or am I indeed a shitty person?

Justified reaction people can be so impatient.

Depends , just cos he is a 75 Tesla? Not sure what that has do with anything unless your prone to being jealous of people, and how do you know he wasent on his way to see his dying mother or child , or was late for a life changing appointment ? That old person struggling to park may well go out tomorrow and kill a child due to his inability to drive ?

But as long you got a smile out of his misfortune alls good 👍

It's a natural reaction to laugh, when we encounter something that may surprise us, perhaps incongruity or a substantial encounter.

Whilst we may learn what's appropriate for laughter, it's triggered from ancient brain parts. Other animals seem to share some of our instincts.

I don't see it as bad, if our natural instincts drive us. If someone intentionally laughed to hurt others, I'd not approve. I don't think you did OP. You seemed to have concern for the elderly people.

OP not sure if this is a national phenomenon but I've witnessed a massive increase in aggressive driving in the North West Durham area over recent years. So this story warms my cockles.

Ooh … basically an “am i the arsehole” question…

In this case I think I can give you an answer with insight….

The answer is no.. as a Tesla owner I can let you into a secret.. the rims on the Tesla stick out a way from the tyre itself.. so kurbing it is actually easy to do! (Also replacement rims are not that expensive if you do decide to)

You are absolved…

Shitty drivers come in all makes and models. Someone cut me up earlier today in a Ford Galaxy (you'll probably know the place, coming from Newcastle turning up onto Lobley Hill bank from the roundabout - he was in the right hand lane) didn't indicate or I would have just let him in, then he tailgated the car in front until he turned off.

I do and that happens so often there , a work colleague got side swiped in exactly that way last year. The other driver claimed he was in the right too. Fortunately there was dash cam footage from a car behind the accident.

I don’t think anyone comes out of that whole scenario particularly positively. The Tesla driver clearly got karma for being impatient and forcing their way through. No sympathy for him.

Just because you are elderly doesn’t absolve you from not being able to drive/park properly. If the space was too small then he should have gone else where. I have seen more than a few people scratch other cars because they can’t park properly. That’s not fair.

And OP, it’s never a good look to laugh at someone else’s misfortune - be aware that what goes around, comes around.

I feel sorry for the elderly gentleman having difficulty with parking.

I feel sorry for the Tesla owner who curbed his vehicle's wheels in frustration.

.

Both humans were having their own respective difficulties.

I don't experience any emotions from schadenfreude.

.

My only takeaway is that actions have consequences, and if I ever lose patience with a situation, then that Tesla owner will serve as reminder to me to be patient. In that sense, I perceive it as an instructional experience.

He could have been in a rush to his parents as his mum called and said she fell and hit her head, now can’t get up… now he’s kerbed the alloys of a car he worked his ass off for, 60 hours a week running a business, because an old man took ages to park, the same old man who drives at 22mph everywhere and holds you up when you’re late for work and you’re saying “come on grandpa, lets go”

… however I love the misery of others so, laugh away
