How many of you ladies tested for HPV & how many would admit they have it? And whats your body count?
similarly gents, if you are aware you are carrying it, would you refrain from sexual activity? Curious to know numbers…
It is quiet concerning |

HPV can be dormant in your system for years. If someone has it one time and not another, there is no way of knowing if it has gone or just gone into hiding. This is why smear tests are regular even if there have been no new sexual partners. (soon to be every 5 years rather than 3 for all women).
It's a virus that our bodies are very good at dealing with and the cervical screening system is reliable, as long as someone attends!!
(Says she who had her smear result back today!) |

Many people won't know and it's not tested for at sexual health clinics. I'm not aware of a reliable test for men either
It's your responsibility to take control of your health and to look after that of others you engage with. A good way to approach this, is to educate yourself as much as possible. |

Can’t believe this isn’t tested as part of the online tests. My understanding is there is a vaccine given to girls in the UK at a very early that prevents them getting it.? I checked and all my daughters have had this which should mean they never get it right? |

The HPV vaccine doesn't protect against all types, so even if you've had it there's no guarantee you won't pick it up later in life. |

A little light reading. Most adults will likely have come into contact with it at some point, hence they don't tend to vaccinate after the age of 26.

Close to 100% effective, 99% documented in clinical trials. Obviously the younger you are when you have the vaccine the more effective it is. |

You can get vaccinated although you'd have to pay yourself up to the age of 45 |

Nope. It only protects against a number of strains. Not all. And certainly not 100% effective. I posted the NHS details on this up there. ^^^^ |

No not at all, most sexual active people will be carrying it at some point in their lives. Its very common and has nothing to do with body count. |

They only look for the high-risk types that cause cancer. They dont test for the low risk types that cause genital warts. If you test positive for a high risk type they don't tend to tell you which one you specifically have. |

The clinical trials there’s not much point discussing it. The vaccine is close to 100% effective , if administered in teenagers like in the UK, obviously a lot of people for different reasons choose not to have their children vaccinated |

I guess with the warts one, you will be able to tell by the warts hahaha
I am more concerned about the cancerous ones, a lot of women get cervical cancer because of us men… there surely should be something to detect it to save women and allow people to have more kids… or is it a part of a bigger plan? |

My last smear test results I was told my HPV was negative. It was the first time I'd been given a result for HPV. It's an extremely common virus and most sexually active people will have been exposed to it at some point. Our immune systems deal with them most of the time, and we don't get symptoms.
I was surprised when I got my results as I'd never previously been informed of my hpv status.

From the NHS website.
"You cannot fully protect yourself against HPV, but there are things that can help.
Condoms can help protect you against HPV, but they do not cover all the skin around your genitals, so you're not fully protected.
The HPV vaccine protects against the types of HPV that cause most cases of genital warts and cervical cancer, as well as some other cancers. It does not protect against all types of HPV.'
If the vaccine was in fact 100% effective for life, I suspect that wording would be a lot different. 🤷♂️ |

Guess it depends on what angle you are looking at and I think you both are approaching from different sides. There's the effectiveness of the vaccine at preventing HPV infection and the effectiveness of the HPV vaccine at preventing cervical cancer caused by HPV. There's a big difference between the two, though I could be wrong as I've assumed you both have different thoughts. |

land of make believe |
I contracted HPV virus from my fiance ,25 years ago.
He knew he had it, never mentioned it to me because he was given misinformation at the doctors & believed he was 'cured' after a freezing treatment.
I only found out because I had tests after a miscarriage & I had cervical cancer.
Almost all cervical cancer are caused by HPV virus.
I have had it twice more with numerous surgeries & treatments.
I get tested regularly & I currently am HPV negative.I have been for many years.
I do believe he should have been more aware of the potential dangers, ignorance is no defence.
If the situation had been reversed,I would have been held accountable,I am sure.

Good point, and I agree with that. Clarity on what is being spoken about is so important.
But also HPV causes cold sores so it's such a common virus that to eradicate it completely would be near impossible, counting all the variants. But I'm glad there are vaccines that target the strains that most commonly cause cancer and hopefully in the future the rates of cervical cancer due to HPV will be minimal. |

There's no reliable test for it, for men. The vaccine is close to 100% but isn't - it's about 97% effective, I think. The body is pretty good at getting rid of the virus, should you encounter it though. The vaccines are a game changer for cancer |

That is exactly my point… it is not fair from carriers and from scientists or whoever can do something about it and they dont! I dont think this virus is given enough attention… women are likely to get cervical cancer from it, miscarriages, more complications… yet they cannot test men for it… if they (scientists) and doctors really cared they would of tried! Not just find a vaccine and give it people… it wont prevent it from happening… every illness got a cure but whether they want to give it or not thats a different story! Sorry to hear you had to go through this… if I do end up giving my wife this… I think I dont deserve to live |

If you think that, then I assume that you ignore all of the available evidence. 'vaccines cause more harm than good'
It depends on how many children's and women's lives you'd prefer to save, just as an example, not to mention men's lives.
Wouldn't you prefer fewer women losing life, from cervical cancer?
I think childhood vaccines have saved towards 200 million lives, from diseases that were preventable. And many more millions of lives, that were impacted by health conditions that were avoidable. Some of those conditions are life altering. |

"Can’t believe this isn’t tested as part of the online tests. My understanding is there is a vaccine given to girls in the UK at a very early that prevents them getting it.? I checked and all my daughters have had this which should mean they never get it right?
There's no reliable test for it, for men. The vaccine is close to 100% but isn't - it's about 97% effective, I think. The body is pretty good at getting rid of the virus, should you encounter it though. The vaccines are a game changer for cancer
They really arent… well I dont think they are and thats my personal view on it… if everyone finds one partner and both commit to each other, there would not be stds out there "
Beliefs and wishes are different from evidence!
From the BMJ -
The human papillomavirus vaccine has reduced the incidence of cervical cancer by 87% in women in their 20s in England who were offered the vaccine when they were aged 12-13 years as part of the UK HPV vaccination programme, a study published in the Lancet shows. |

"If anyone is sexualy active with more than 1 partner it's safe to say you will get hpv. I had it but thankfully my last smear was clear.
Even if actual penetration was protected? "
Yes.
Read up.
The info is out there. You don't even need penetrative sex to catch it. |

Yeah you can catch HPV through non sexual contact like skin to skin contact or touching contaminated objects it’s really nothing to be ashamed about having |

So if you kiss someone on a night out you could catch something… I guess that makes sense |

You don’t even have to be intimate you can also potentially catch it from gym equipment or other contaminated surfaces |

It can only be picked up on a cervical smear, it isn't something that is regularly tested for in a sti clinic.
It is nothing to do with body count, infact no STI is to do with body count. It is only sleeping with the wrong people. Some of the most sexually active people I know are the cleanest because they actually test regularly |

"Anti vaxxers are insufferable. Wdym the hpv vaccine is useless, it has probably saved millions of women from getting cancer????!! "
And all the millions of lives from other diseases! I can’t even converse with people like that. I really cant. It’s ridiculous |

People are willingly putting their kids at risk because of their own stupid beliefs. I feel sorry for these children. |

It's frequent enough.
The disease process takes around 8 years to go from negative to something sinister so the 5 year interval is sufficient. It's been researched!
The smear is looking out for the high risk strains. HPV also causes verrucas - they don't test for every strain as not all HPVs are associated with the oral, cervical and anal cancers... |

How does it work? Why does it have to be in a vaccine form? Do a bit of research on vaccines…. How can the vaccine reduce the chances of certain hpv strains and not all??? |

No one asked you to converse, you chose to get involved… might be best to just believe what money making businesses (pharmaceuticals) tell you and take whichever vaccine they say is good… yeah covid vaccines, MMR amongst many others… people who hadn't taken those are healthier! Must be a coincident |

You only have to be intimate with someone, that could be a simple kiss, but that doesn't sell news.
Around 75 to 80% of us will cross paths with the HPV virus but for the vast majority it will be harmless and leave without any trace.
Sadly, for some, it will be the driver for a cancer in the genital area or head and neck.
For me, it was a throat cancer but after 12 months of surgery, chemo and radiotherapy I'm all clear but the biopsies showed the cancer was HPV driven.
Hopefully, in the future the vaccine will reduce the number of cancers but for now keep getting checks and any screening programmes please attend.

Look it up non sexual ways HPV can be transmitted. Its not as common as sexually transmitted but it’s possible |

You can simply Google and find out how? You really think I am going to sit, and explain it to you? Please get off YouTube or whatever social media platform you're getting your info from and touch grass. Not only is it embarrassing, it's very pathetic. I feel sorry for you. To be consumed with conspiracy theories and then spread it on sites like this is actually just really strange and weird. |

"yet they cannot test men for it… if they (scientists) and doctors really cared they would of tried!("
So women are tested as cells are scaped during a smear test - it isn't possible to scrape enough cells from a man's penis, hence why there is no test for men.
HPV testing is relatively new - it's an STI, not an STD and for most strains there are no symptoms. As others have said it can be dormant for years. Most people's immune system is able to clear it in a couple of years |

You believe your own seemingly erroneous delusions. The overwhelming evidence is very clear on the millions of lives that vaccines have saved, as well as many more millions of life limiting illnesses and disabilities that have been prevented by them. We can safely say that these people are absolutely safer, due to the large range of vaccines available. |

I mean....given you were seemingly unaware of how HPV is transmitted, do you not think it's a bit rich saying people refuse to educate themselves? 🤔🤷♂️ |
