If you could retrain what would you do
Jump to: Newest in thread
Was recently asked this and thought it was a very good question.
If you could retrain in any profession you choose without time constraints or money being and issues what would you do and what do you currently do at the moment ? I will start
At present - I work in a call Center
If I retrained - I would become a paramedic |

One of my first jobs was shelf stacking in Sainsburys. The guy i worked with kept telling me to join him on this "Stocks and Shares" course he was doing.
I didnt.
He was mortgage free by the time he was 27 and lives the millionaires lifestlye with the money to back it up.
I didnt.
But is he happy.
Yeah. He is. Very.
I'd retrain on the course he did !

Research Psychologist.
I don’t have the patience with people to Counsel them effectively (plus you have to have way more qualifications in Psychology than I currently have and the inclination/time to obtain).
But observing people, their behaviour and their actions and responses. Yeah, that I could do!
People are interesting.

"Not going to say what i do now.
But i would be a vet, always wanted to be one when younger but the nearest uni for it was the other end of the country and i'm a homebody. One of my regrets "
I wanted to be a vet too until I realised how much of their job is euthanising animals and I couldn’t do it. These days I probably could, I’ve lost enough pets to know that as they reach end of life they can be pretty unhappy and uncomfortable, making ending that suffering a kindness. So yeah if I could retrain I too would be a vet |

"I'm a software tester currently but I really love history but can't think of a career path that I could've gone down with that.
Historical analysis/ professor of histories. Joe "
Analysis and research is an interesting one! |

You could teach it. "
I think that's the problem, I saw a lot of them as teaching roles which never really suited me |

With the explosion of heat pump installs I'm considering doing an f Gas course, they're going to be everywhere in the next 10 years and that's going to mean lots of service, repair and install work. |

It's tough isn't it. Balancing the need to reduce suffering, while enjoying the happiness that comes from healing/managing an animals health concern.
I still think I couldn't do it though....
I have the upmost respect and appreciation for those who do however! |

My daughter is doing this and retraining as a teacher at aged 31. If you really want to do this find a way. Life is short and you don't want to live with regrets. Retraining for a job with shortages will pay off in the end as no job is safe anymore and the job market is brutal out there. |

Appreciate it’s not easy and in some cases be impossible but I’d advise anyone with dreams to follow them.
If it doesn’t work out life has away of sorting something else
While a current job feels safe and less scary than retraining honestly don’t be on your deathbed thinking ‘what if and having regrets’
Better to regret what you’ve done that what you didn’t
Have a great Sunday all |

I recently gave up a 30 year career in manufacturing to become self employed which I'm loving ....however I always think I'd like to do a dying art so to speak like a roof thatcher or stained glass window making |

I'm currently tempted to retrain as a sparky.
I have a decent office job - can't say what I do - but I've spent 3 years trying to get tge next payband up, but recruitment is saturated.
I'm tempted to quit once I pass my driving test and retrain as a spark. I'm mainly just worried I'm too old to do it with longevity.
If money were not an issue, and recruitment was solid, I'd take my data skills and commit to being a marine biologist. |

If money wasn't an object, I'd be a photographer. It's something I enjoy and am quite good at. But it's also something that's very hard to make a living from (I've got a friend who's been doing it as a side-hustle for years and still not to the point where he can make it his full-time job) |

Landscape architect, garden designer, museum curator, aquarium manager, diplomatic translator, classic car restorer, West end theatrical performer, dance instructor, bridge officer, army drill sergeant. Might have all been fun and satisfying for a bit, and I have done stressful managerial work in the past, but these days I'm content to be just a cog in the gears rather than the power mad guy at the controls.

I'm an electronics engineer who ended up in software engineering.
If I could re-educate myself and pick a different career path, I'd like to study English and History, and perhaps archaeology. |

"Maybe a sports physiotherapist or a PT. Or a forestry person. Something non office based. "
I moved out the office 3 years ago at the age of 50. Retrained. Now work inside/outside/forklift. Will never look back. |

If it wasn't for the drop in money and job security I'd probably do it |

I’ve spent the last 26 years as a project/delivery/programme lead in public and private sector IT.
So something completely different, maybe a dog trainer/behaviourist, or something in the charity sector |
