I just know that when I lived on St James Street, I got A LOT of attention, constantly...
It actually educated my ignorant younger self.
My Mum is a raging feminist, so I always knew that catcalling women in the street wasn't on, but there was this little part at the back of my brain that went "Yeah, but isn't it kind of complimentary though? I mean they're saying how fit you are?"
And in true man "can't empathise until it happens to me" fashion, it wasn't until I had big groups of burly men catcalling me on the street that I realised noooooo...no it is not.
I didn't feel attractive, I felt scared and intimidated and I wanted it to stop.

I'm giving myself a 7.
I'm learning to love myself and appreciate the blessings I have. I like my body and the hard work I've put into it. I take care of myself. Natural year round tan that people pay money to get. Above average height but not tall enough that my head bumps on everything, so almost the right height to navigate the world. Tall enough to reach something, short enough to blend in. I've been told I have a great smile and give amazing hugs. I'm invisible to most people in real life which is a gift and a curse. |

I think it probably pretty common for people to underestimate themselves. We see people around us and think we could never measure up to them , we all know our own defects and things were self conscious about even though they might not ever occur to a stranger looking at us.
For me, I think I’m very average , some will like me , others not so much. There’s lots of things I’d like to change about myself and so therefore I’d say I’m no more than a 5. Middle of the road average |

I seem to remember there was some study a while back that looked at job applications, and the criteria set out in them.
Men would typically apply for a role if they thought they met 20% of the criteria.
For women, it would only be if they were comfortably over 80%.
It strikes me there are some parallels in this thread. Us chaps are (mostly) coming in with "Yeah! I'm a bit of alright!"
But ladies - you need to love yourselves more, there are some scandalously low ratings in here.
And I know, I know - society has basically weaponised insecurity and been fucking with your heads for decades, so that it can monetise misery and tell you that you'd look so much prettier if only you had that latest greatest thing - but fuck that.
Don't let them get in your heads.

Confidence, self worth and self love take time to build. I used to be very negative towards myself and it took a toll on my mental health. It's taken me a long time to value myself and appreciate who I am. I think we are all on a journey. It's normal to have insecurities and doubts. We have to be our own biggest fan. |

I'm 61, have always had an adventurous mind, but for most of my life I have suppressed it. Over the last couple of years I have come to understand that the person I am inside isn't weird, isn't wrong, it's just sexy with a hint of kink. I believe who I am inside isn't boring, isn't vanilla, it's sexy.
I won't rate myself out of 10, and to be honest, I only really care what those who matter to me think, but inside I feel furrking sexy.
And to some of the lovely sexy people on here rating themselves so low - the only people rating you so low is yourself. Keep positive and discard/ignore the negative. Focus on the positive and your confidence will grow - and confidence (not arrogance) is sexy!

Looks wise I always give myself a 10. Not because I have an over inflated opinion of myself compared to others but because I'm happy with how I look and accept myself as I am (despite the telly and every advert on Facebook telling me I shouldn't be because old people must hide the oldness). This does NOT mean that others should hold the same opinion in fact I'm 100% sure they don't but I have no control over that. I just don't think that the physical cards you've been dealt are worth making yourself miserable over.
This doesn't mean I wouldn't take a magic pill that would immediately tone my stomach or that I sometimes get a bit of a surprise when I look in the mirror and a nearly 70 year old looks back but ya' know 🤷♀️ |
